Human Traces by Sebastian Faulks

Advantages: Amazing subject matter, well-handled and excellent characterisation
Disadvantages: May be a little long for some - but I didn't want it to end.

...This amazing novel had me gripped from the very first line! I'm a massive fan of Sebastian Faulks, but had been put of this novel by reviews which said there were passages which were too long winded and scientific. Lesson one - read it yourself and make your own opinion! This is an incredible book, not quite up there with Birdsong (my favourite book of all time - so far) but still amazing. I can't describe the story better than Fauks himself so: "The story begins in the 1870s with the lives of two young men: Jacques Rebičre, a peasant's son in Brittany, and Thomas Midwinter, a merchant's son in Lincolnshire. Jacques has a naturally scientific turn of mind, in which he is encouraged by the help of the local priest. He is inspired by his desire to find a cure for the mysterious illness of his elder brother Olivier -- who hears...

Sebastian Laminates Shampoo

Advantages: it has totally transformed how my hair looks and feels
Disadvantages: it is more expensive than other shampoos

...Years of perming, colouring and generally abusing my hair has left it frizzy and a total nightmare to control or style. Sent like a gift from the gods, Sebastian Laminates Shampoo is designed to help keep frizzy or dry hair under control and I am really pleased that it was recommended to me. So much so I wanted to share my experiences. Even though it is much more expensive than other regular shampoo and conditioners at Ł10 for 250ml I found that it lasts just that little bit longer than other shampoos because I only need a little amount to wash my hair which is currently down to my shoulders in length. When I use other brands, after washing my hair goes really dry and feels almost brittle to the touch. Some would call it straw hair. Using Sebastian Laminates Shampoo won't see dramatically different results over the short term, but two...

San Miguel!

Advantages: reasonable strength, refreshing, tasty, cheap.
Disadvantages: not for repeated consumption.

...San Miguel Premium is a very tasty lager beer thats got a really sweet, refreshing aftertaste that is great for the cash. If you fancy a bit of a change, it is definitely worth a try. Like any alcohol, it is best enjoyed in moderation. However this one moreso, as it starts to get a little bit sickly after the third or fourth pint. It is something to drink between different beers, if not on its own. -- Definitely not something you can drink all night. Its best to buy in a supermarket as it is disproportionately cheaper than in a pub. It is available in ASDA and TESCO in both cans and bottles. It is thirst-quenching and best served chilled and is often enjoyed in hot climates. As the name may have led you to believe, it is very popular in Spain and is the strongest export of Spanish Beer. 4%. ABV. Summary: A fine Spanish Beer...

A San Frantastic Boutique Hotel

Advantages: The price, the location, the staff, the rooms, everything
Disadvantages: ...our shower was like needles

...adorable and has a great location in town. I can't really flaw it. There are other hotels in the Joie De Vivre company within San Francisco too, so they may also be worth looking into to, but of the few we browsed over, none seemed so 'individual' and cute as this one. Like I said, they have cheaper options, and that makes me even happier that we can come back (making sure we book more in advance) and pay less! The company's website can be found at: http://www.jdvhotels.com/hotels/petiteauberge And the hotel can be found here: 863 Bush Street, San Francisco CA 94108; Tel. 1.877.516.7289 Thanks for reading :) © MarcoG 2008...

Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks A Must Read

Advantages: Moving, well written, great sense of realism
Disadvantages: None

...Strangely I was first attracted to this book by the picture on the cover. It shows a soldier standing over a grave. As someone with an interest in military history, especially twentieth Century, I thought It may be of interest to me, I later read a review of it in one of the national newspapers and having liked what I read, decided that I would give it a try. I had not even heard of Sebastian Faulks before ,let alone read any of his other books. I was expecting a First World War story, full of action and tales of bravery-what I got was so much more. The books main character is Stephen Wrayford. The story begins in France 1910.A young man, Stephen is sent by his factory owning employer from England to France in order to try and learn some modern working practises that would help improve his employers companies prospects. He lodges...

San Andreas

Advantages: Massive Game, Great Graphics
Disadvantages:

...GTA San Andreas Well this is the next great game in the series of GTA. It is so much bigger and better than the one before it. It allows for so much more interaction in the game. Now being able to do things such as going to the gym and play games etc it is just beyond all other gaming experiences. I have found that the game is just totally massive there are three different islands which are all huge. I've had the game for over a year and still seem to be finding things to do. The main aim of the game is to get respect. You can do this by completing missions and advancing in the game. Another way in which to get respect would be to have great stamina and muscles etc. The game has so much detail involved it's quite incredible. You start off at the beginning of the game trying to find your way home on a bicycle; this is the very...

Sunny San Diego

Advantages: Gorgeous scenery, sunshine
Disadvantages: transport links

...I visited San Diego last October due to a work meeting. As it was such a long way to travel I thought it would be a good idea to add on a few days holiday to explore the area with a friend who was coming along. Getting There There are direct flights to San Diego from London however at the time these were three times as expensive as a fare with stopovers in the US and with a friend coming I wanted our flights to be as cheap as possible. Our flights went from Heathrow to Washington where we changed planes for a flight to Chicago and then another change for a plane to LA, where we got our final plane to San Diego. This may seem too much for some, but for me it was great as the plane changing gave me a chance to stretch my legs. I think I would have found 13 hours cooped up in a plane too much! One thing I did ensure was that the route...

The discreet charm of the Casa San Blas

Advantages: A five-star stay?
Disadvantages: ?with just three-star facilities

...simplicity often trumps ritzy ostentation. Attentive service matters, but nothing is nastier than the kind of smarmy obsequiousness that always seems to mask a sneer. And so on. Maybe it's simply down to that indefinable essence known as character or personality. These inconsequential musings are prompted by my trying to pinpoint what it was about the Casa San Blas at Cusco that I liked so much. The hotel is certainly not without its limitations and even its failings, but it's a nevertheless a charming and delightful place to stay. Let's try to summarise what it has to offer. * Location * The Casa San Blas is situated just a few minutes' walk from Cusco's Plaza de Armas (central square), and is therefore convenient for all the main sights of the ancient Inca capital, such as the Qorikancha (Sun Temple), the Cathedral...

Sebastian, my love

Advantages: Fast paced tale that you don't want to put down
Disadvantages: Takes a few chapters to readjust

...Having come off an invigorating reading binge encompassing the works of Anne Bishop, I was thoroughly pleased to learn that my good friend, who just happened to get me HOOKED on Anne Bishop to begin with, had a copy of her very latest book - Sebastian - on reserve, and therefore in her hot little hands. Better yet, she had 2 copies reserved, which meant that she was able to pass the first copy on to me, and able to get the second copy to finish. In all honesty, coming out of the Black Jewels series, this took a little adjusting. A completely different world, a completely different cast of characters, a completely different power of my favorite aspect of fantasy - MAGIK. This tale starts with such a simple task, and the simple enjoyment, of making koffee. Remember, this is a different world altogether. Demons, succubi, and other...

Castillo San Miguel

Advantages: Superb horses and some great eye candy for the ladies
Disadvantages: Horrible fod, revolting wine, uncomfortable seats and miserable staff

...Castillo San Miguel Tenerife. Links: http://www.castillosanmiguel.com in English, Spanish, French and German. http://www.teneriferesorts.com/any/trwmiguelcastle.aspx Whilst on holiday in Tenerife this summer 2007, our tour representative did a reasonable job on her sales pitch by convincing me to book another of her excursions. Not only had I just booked a Catamaran cruise for an afternoon but I had now also paid my euros to spend an evening at the Castillo San Miguel for a Medieval Evening. I did not visit during the day so cannot comment on what is available at this time. If you are ever holidaying on the island of Tenerife, then please read on before you commit yourself to a very different evening's entertainment. *** Object of the Evening*** Castillo San Miguel covers approximately 6,000 square metres...
