La Gomera - love it, hate it. Judge for yourself
Advantages: Hot, beautiful
Disadvantages: long journey, not much to do
...approx 40 minutes to cross. On the boat was a bar and plenty of places to sit inside and out on deck. It was quite a nice crossing and if you are lucky, which we were, you'll see Dolphins.
We then arrived in La Gomera.
If you think of the island as being like a clock and the port - San Sebastian de la Gomera is at 4 o'clock, where we were going - Playa de Santiago is at 6 o'clock, but to get there we had to go right to the middle of the island - through a rain forest, up a mountain and back down to the 6 o'clock position. Basically there is no coast road. So it took 1 1/2 hours to reach our resort.
This is my next negative about the island. Everywhere we wanted to go, we had to go up the mountain in the middle and then back down the other side. The roads on the island take quite abit of getting used to. There are some quite scary...

Creme de la Merde!
Advantages: This 'designer' cream will turn your bathroom shelf into a shrine.
Disadvantages: Your bank manager will none too pleased.
...I have read nothing but rave reviews about Creme de la Mer, an A-list moisturiser with an A-list price tag attached. Magazines are forever gushing about this product, associating words such as 'miracle' and 'extraordinary' to it so naturally curiosity got the better of me. Now although I can be somewhat of a beauty product victim and quite impulsive, even I know that forking out around eighty-eight quid for an itsy tub (30ml!) of this wonder is just plain ridiculous. So I sought to foreign lands, the U S of A to be precise, with hope that I could purchase the product for a fraction of the price - this was roughly about a year ago folks, before recession, when the value of the pound was almost two dollars, and so I managed to get hold of it at just over a hundred dollars with postage and packaging which luckily worked out no more than...

Creme de la mer face cream
Advantages: You see results quickly
Disadvantages: Expensive
...I had heard about crème de la mer in the press & looked at the price & thought how ridiculously overpriced. Even though I was intrigued I thought there's no way I can justify spending that much.
However things were about to change - fast forward to 3 years later & I have had the worst skin problems with spots & scarring - they seemed never ending & I was beginning to get fed up of always having horrible skin.
Then one day complaining to a friend she recommended using crème de la mer. She has been using it for about 5 years & has the most amazing skin - so off I went to Selfridges & got the 30ml pot - I thought I don't want to splash out too much so I thought I'll use this size to try it out.
I've been using the creme morning & night on recommendation of my friend to get maximum benefits - this has worked very well for me. It also...

La Gomera - refuge from Tenerife
Advantages: Quiet, scenic, fine weather
Disadvantages: Cabin-fever
...La Gomera is a smaller Canary island which can clearly be seen from the coast of Tenerife.
It can be reached by roll-on car ferry from Los Christianos, and the journey is similar to a Channel crossing in length, only the water's bit deeper, since both of the islands are effectively dormant/extinct volcanos rising from the Atlantic floor. Along with nearby Tenerife, it was the last re-victualling point for Columbus' many trips to the New World.
The island's shepherds and hill-farmers have developed a unique language of whistles for communicating with eachother on account of the rocky terrain and the depth of ravines, which make sharing the odd joke rather difficult.
By the time you read this, the island may well have an airport, which could alter the character of the place. It is thought to be a short runway affair intended...

Not the Creme De La Creme
Advantages: It comes in a nice green box
Disadvantages: Didn't live up to the hype
...this would be the elusive cream that would melt away all my bad skin days and leave me waking up each morning with skin so beautiful and flawless I would look like Da Vinci had airbrushed me himself! I am so deluded, easily led and gullible, I know, but I fell for it hook, line and skincare...
The packaging is definately not consistent with the price tag. Ok, the green bag and box it comes in are alright, and the actual pot is unusually heavy but the logo on the pot is so cheap looking, I told my husband it cost £4.99 from the chemist and he believed me! I should have spent £4.99 but on a pot of Nivea because Creme De La Mer is Nivea's more expensive snobby twin.
The actual product itself sat on top of my skin for what felt like an eternity, I was too afraid to put it on just before getting into bed and wasting a fivers worth on my...

Parque de La Paz Hotel Review.
Advantages: Excellent location and fantastic value for money. Highly recommended.
Disadvantages: Nothing stands out as being an issue.
...Please bear in mind that Holidays in Tenerife are usually aimed at the 18-30 age group. The Parque de La Paz hotel is located in Playa de las Americas on the south of the Island. It is situated nearby a supermarket and a mere 400m from the wonderful beaches. Tenerife's reputation certainly goes before it and I found many of my ideas surrounding the island were wrong. It is true that Tenerife accomodates a large number of english tourists, however, i felt that part of the culture of the island remained in tact and the standards were certainly not low. As for the hotel i thought it was excellent value for money. As a £200 package holiday I felt the rooms were a great standard. The rooms were a good size with a lovely balcony and all the appliances you need. The rooms are cleaned daily by a cycle of friendly maids. Despite having a large...

Playa de San Juan - An excellent hotel
Advantages: Friendly staff, lovely pool, clean room
Disadvantages: Dynamic currency conversion on our room costs paid by debit card
...We chose to visit the Holiday Inn Alicante Playa de San Juan for a week in July after having three very pleasant stays in Express by Holiday Inns in the UK. We were not sure what to expect in terms of quality, however it was probably one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in.
The cost was ?94 per night for an en suite room with king size bed and an ?almost double? sofa bed. The room was on the third floor of the hotel and had a view of another apartment block to the rear of the hotel. However, this did not cause any problems as the apartments were quite a distance from the hotel, therefore not blocking the panoramic view.
THE HOTEL
The hotel building is over 7 floors: the ground floor, floors 1 to 5 and a floor called '-1'. If you are given a room on the '-1' floor, don't think that they are shoving you in...

Creme de la Mer: thumbs down
Advantages: leaves skin moisturized for long
Disadvantages: overpriced, overrated,no SPF
...between fingertips before tapping it on the face, but my fingers absorbed most of the cream!Does it mean I will have wrinkle-free finger tips??
The Creme de la Mer, ladies and gentlemen, DOES NOT contain a SPF, which means that, although I spent a fortune for this cream, I have to spend even more for another cream with SPF (and would I apply it before or after the Creme de la Mer?).This is not acceptable, everyone knows about the risks of skin cancer and if I pay a fortune for a face cream then it has to be perfect.
That was the bad news. The good news, however, is that excellent creams DO exist. Instead of wasting money on a product that is mainly famous because VIP use it ( sure...Victoria Beckham looks like that because she uses Creme de la Mer, not because she has Botox injections, and Restylane fillings...) you'd better off investing...

Premier Inn, Ashby de la Zouch
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: None
...Stayed at the Ashby de la Zouch Premier Inn on the night of Saturday 15th November 2008.
The chap on the reception desk was welcoming and friendly - a good start. The stairs and corridor to the room were clean in appearance and smell. The room was likewise, although a little chilly because the window was open, but a thermostat in the room meant we could bump the temperature up a bit.
For the money - £48 for the night for 2 of us - I consider we had good value. The room was quite large, comfortable bed, although in the morning I heard someone complaining at reception, that their bed was too hard, but ours was fine.
Complimentary tea and coffee in the room, TV and a sofa. Plenty of hanging space and shelves.
En suite was of a good size and plenty of hot water. 2 bath and 2 hand towels provided. No freebie soaps...
