Sandford Holiday Park
Advantages: Good family centre with lots of on-site facilities.
Disadvantages: Not as good in the cold wet weather of UK
...I have been to the wonderful Sandford Park in Poole, Dorset, three times now. I went twice when I was younger, with my dad and brother and then returned as an adult, in 2001, with my husband and our kids. My husbands mum and dad also came with us and I will base this review mainly on my experiences there in 2001.
##THE PARK##
Sandford Park is set in 64 acres of woodland, close to Purbeck Hills. They cater for all sorts of holidaymakers and their varying budgets.
They offer a variety of holiday homes there, which include one bedroom caravans that sleep 2-4, two bedroom caravans that sleep 4-6, three bedroom caravans that sleep 6-8, then the lodge style caravans that sleep either 4-6 or 6-8, depending on number of bedrooms. There is also space for holidaymakers with tents. We?re not really a camping sort of family so cannot...

Boring stories of...
Advantages: Detail, detail, detail
Disadvantages: Ditto
...'Very well written, critical and thoroughly researched' it says on the back. Well, two out of three ain't bad, as some other popster had it. The other quote is 'Rigorously researched and thoroughly readable'. Notably these quotes are for the author and not attributed to this particular book. I cannot fault the research - and 'critically' Sandford is honest and portrays as many sides as he can find.
'Well written' only applies in a technical sense, however, and 'readable' scarcely at all.
To understand my take on this book, you possibly need to know my starting point.
"Bruce Springsteen" is the backdrop to my own Glory Days.
I can't pretend to have ever come close to the remotest possibility of meeting the man in person - unless the jogger outside St James' in '84 were he (the bandanna suggests little Stevie as a more...

Dont camp here
Advantages: good range of facilities
Disadvantages: poor hygiene and maintenance and aloof management and staff
...Sandford holiday park has to be without a doubt the worst site that i have ever encountered. The toilet facilities are notably poor and dirty. There is usually insufficient hot water for the numbers of guests. There are two shower blocks with consist a total of sixteen showers which in peak months have to cope with up to 2000 guests, work out that for yourself!! I found the level of hygiene completely unacceptable and would honestly not wash my dog in them. The staff were aloof and when spoken to the management were disinterested and told me to write in because they could not deal with complaints. The campsite itself was a pleasant area in parts but also housed smelly riding stables and a rubbish tip for the holiday camp. Many guests were complaining of these issues. The swimming pools are clean but also show a lot of wear...

Hot Fuzz
Advantages: Hilarious, detailed, very entertaining
Disadvantages: None!
...Hot Fuzz is a brilliant mickey-take from the team that brought us Shaun of the Dead. It centres around a much decorated, very dedicated London cop called Sergeant Angel, who is politely removed from his job in the city and shipped out to a sleepy Gloucester village called Sandford.
This, on the face of it, doesn't seem like the most inspiring plot-line, but the villagers prove to be an interesting lot and it doesn't take long for Sergeant Angel to start arresting people and making a name for himself in the village. A series of bizarre accidents hint to Sergeant Angel that all is not as it should be in Sandford and bit by bit, the plot starts to reveal itself.
As well as a very inventive plotline, the characters in the film make it really watchable. There's the ever-correct Angel, (Simon Pegg) desperately trying to update...

Top Cops
Advantages: Cast, performances, very funny
Disadvantages: None for me but some may find it silly
...Synopsis
Meet PC Nicholas Angel. With the top arrest record and a passion for paperwork he is the hottest cop in the Metropolitan Police Force. In fact, he is so hot that he is making his colleagues look bad. With this in mind Angel?s superiors send him away to Sandford, a village so sleepy it is practically comatose. Here he is partnered with the oafish Danny Butterman, a young PC looking for action of any kind. While at first Angel is suffocated by the pastoral atmosphere, bodies soon begin to appear and he and Danny are pressed into action. Sandford, it seems, may not be so idyllic after all...
Story
P.C Nicholas Angel is married to the police force, he lives for his job so when he gets toldhe's making sergent he's elated but his happiness is short lived when he's told his new post will be in the sleepy village of Sandford...

Hot Fuzz a British comedy classic.
Advantages: A very amusing film, with a great cast
Disadvantages: Language and (comic) violence may offend some.
...of atmosphere to the storyline.
The Plot
London policeman PC Nicholas Angel is a one man crime stopper. Whatever he turns his hand to in his career he succeeds in, he is a remarkable policeman, married to his job and a dedicated officer. His station has wonderful crime clear up reports, thanks to PC Angel's efforts.
None of this makes him very popular, he has been dating a WPC who becomes tired of always taking second place to the 'Force' or the 'Service' as the pedantic, politically correct PC Angel prefers to call the Police Force. His girlfriend subsequently finds a new boyfriend and dumps PC Angel. Following an injury that he sustained in the call of duty, Nicholas Angel is transferred to a small town Police Station, Sandford.
He does not welcome his new post and Nicholas tries everything he can think of to avoid the move to no...

Hot Fuzz
Advantages: Classic and Original Comedy Ideas
Disadvantages: Too Addictive!
...Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) has a deep passion working for the Metropolitan Police in London. He eat, drinks and sleeps work. His skills in his job are constantly on-going. He has the highest arrest record in the force; he is the best at what he does. His only problem is that he doesn't know how to switch off from work.
When his bosses decide to transfer him to Sandford, the country-side, life in the force changes for Nicholas completely. Nicholas is obviously distressed by the transfer, along with his breakup with his ex-girlfriend Janine.
The residents of Sandford all enjoy the traditional trend of an 'oldy world' village, and do their very best to keep it that way. They are friendly and very welcoming, but absolutely determined to keep the peace on-going. Meanwhile, Sandford's police force, including Danny Butterman (Nick Frost...

The British "Bad Boys"
Advantages: Good cast, good story, funny
Disadvantages: May not appeal to everyone.
...The most recent film to make it the top of my rental list on Lovefilm was Hot Fuzz. This was one of my husband's choices so I sat down not knowing what to expect at all. I thought by the name it was some American action film however I was surprised to find that it was in fact a British comedy.
It is made by the same people who made "Shaun of the Dead" although I can't really compare the two as I haven't seen that film.
The main character in the film is Simon Pegg who plays Nicholas Angel a successful police officer working in London. However his successes in his work start to make the rest of the police force look bad so they transfer him up to the sleepy village of Sandford. Angel immediately gets the villagers backs up by emptying the pub of all the underage drinkers (and so losing the pub owner a lot of custom) and then ends...

Hot Fuzz review
Advantages: Funny, exciting
Disadvantages: Can be a bit gruesome
...Hot Fuzz is the huge British hit from the same guys who brought us "Shaun of the Dead", Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost. It's about Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) a police officer so good he makes everyone else look bad in comparison. So he's transferred to the sleepy town of Sandford and ends up teaming with not so good police officer Danny Butterman (Nick Frost). Soon they start investigating a series of brutal murders, which, for some reason, everyone else thinks are merely accidents. Finally they find out a secret that could blow the whole village to smithereens!
If "Shaun of the Dead" was a parody of all things zombie, then "Hot Fuzz" is a spoof of the high octane action movies people like to see. The fact that it's in a sleepy English village is, frankly, genius. Every cliche is here, explosive gun fights, exciting car...
