...For a while now, no visit to the toy shop has been complete without my 4 year old son insisting on going to 'just look' at the Moon Sand. I have never considered myself to be a mean mummy, but I could not personally justify spending £9.99 on a pot of sand and a few plastic moulds. However, Christmas was on its way and I had been asked the standard annual question by an elderly aunt: "What do you think I should get him for Christmas this year?" It wasn't long before I thought of an ideal present - Moon Sand! There are several Moon Sand sets on the market at the moment, all based on various themes including: Monster Truck Set, Diggin' for Dinos, Pet Shop and Ice Cream Sundae, all priced at £9.99. The sands unleashed

Advantages: graphics, storyline, stylish combat and acrobatic moves
Disadvantages: high requirements for such an old game, not easy for everyone

...The real re-birth of the Prince of Persia took place with the Sands of Time from Ubisoft. The game will bring back to us, the memories of old Prince, but here we have a different and detailed environment. We also had two sequels, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. Moon sand claims to be 'sand that moulds like dough', it is not exactly wet, just made in a way that makes it mould like it is, whilst never drying out (as it is not actually wet, if that makes sense?) Price: Around £20 for this particular pack. My 3 year old son was bought this for his birthday earlier this month, so I thought I would share our experiences with you! The pack contains 1 blow up mat, 1 sheet of scenery, 1 packet of grey coloured sand, 3 sand moulds and 1 spade thingy. ...There's a song that features on the soundtrack of many of my favourite films that goes: "No matter where we go, London, Paris, Rome, It feels like Anywhere, USA" It's never something I really understood, since to me those three capitals are all very different from each other, and to anywhere in the USA that I've been, but I figured it was written by someone who'd never actually left the States, and who based their assumptions on the Hollywood version of Europe that comes across in films. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

Advantages: Fantastically realised world, tight gameplay, great characterisation.
Disadvantages: Combat lacks variety, companion isn't very well implemented, story poorly structured.

Did Ubi Soft Montreal really have a masterpiece on their hands in their 2003 platformer, The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time? The first signs are good. While no groundbreaking features such as the original?s rotoscoping are introduced, the game looks great. There?s a haziness to the graphics which adds to the feeling of being in a desert, and when combined with the bright, medieval Asian environments, builds up a mystical atmosphere. Cartoonish character models jar slightly against the realistic appearance of the architecture but the inconsistency isn?t a big issue. Let your child explore and experience sand.

Advantages: great play resourse
Disadvantages: none

...I think sand and water are one of the best play mediums you can give your child. I think I could safely say all or very nearly all childcare / nursery schools have a sand pit or tray a child can access. My grandchildren spend many hours playing in their sand pit outside their backdoor its great as this area has a roof to shelter the little ones when they are playing outside with the sand. I also have a smaller sand tray at my house it lives in the conservatory where we can sit with the children. I have bought sand from Woolworths for my grand children's sand pit. Play sand is available at other outlets, but I bought a couple of bags of Woolworths play sand in the sale. This play sand comes in a10kg bag, this costs about £1.50-£2.00 a bag can not remember for sure. My local woollies had none in stock when I looked after work...

I promise you that this game is liek no other that you played before. Specially in the Adventure/Action genre. For this is a unique experience in itself. The game starts off with a young Prince of Persia. The Prinse has come to India along with his fathe to invade it. With the help of an INdian Vizier it shouldn't be a challenge. And so it was. Once the sign has been given by the Vizier to the Persian Army to advance to the Indian City and the Persian soldiers had flown through the streets brining victory to their king. Sun, Sea And The Sands Of Sakkara.

Advantages: A superb intriguing plot, a gripping and interesting writing style and well constructed characters.
Disadvantages: Takes priority over food, drink, breathing and other non-essentials.

...So, finally, the time arrives for me to review the first of my holiday books, now that I have recovered and the holiday has become romanticised as part of the distant past. And for the matter I didn’t see the sea at all during my drive/camping family holiday in Germany, Austria and France (we utilised the Channel Tunnel), but the sun played a major part and The Sand s Of Sakkara did to, for it was a most enjoyable read (I get the feeling I wasn’t meant to say that till the end of the opinion). So what were “The Sands Of Sakkara” doing in the middle of Europe? Well, as it pretty obvious really it’s a book (it says so at the top of the page!) by Glenn Meade, an author I had never heard of previously, and neither, apparently, had ciao. The Sands of Time

Advantages: Impressive, innovative classic
Disadvantages: A few minor problems regarding combat

...The Story The game begins with the Persian armies successful assualt on the maharajah's palace. The Prince of Persia seeks to impress his father in his first battle and takes a mysterious dagger as a memento of the occassion. When they return home it appears that his dagger is the key to a magical hour glass which was among the many spoils of war. He is then tricked into releasing the sands of time. Unfortunately upon their release the sands consume all those around the prince and indeed the entire palace, his father included. Only the one to betray him and an indian daughter of his fallen enemy seem to have survived. The story driving this game is impressive, not only because its original but also due to the position it places the once proud prince. He is responsible on so many levels for the destruction he has brought down...
