2 STAR HOTEL THAT SHOULD BE FAR MORE

Advantages: Excellent value for money and extremely clean and tidy
Disadvantages: Slightly to far to be able to walk to city centre

...A RISKY HOLIDAY DECISION THAT TURNED OUT TO BE REALLY GOOD * For a long time now, I have been receiving promotional e mails from Ryan Air offering cheap air travel to various destinations, and so, on a whim, I decided to book a return trip to Santiago De Compostela in Spain from London Stansted. Both myself and my wife decided to make it an adventure, so we agreed to make the costs for air travel as cheap as possible, involving taking minimal luggage, and not to book any accommodation until we got to our destination. This is something that we have never done, but it did make it exciting. * We booked the flights to cover a week end after the summer holiday season and arranged a cheap hire car to be picked up at Santiago De Compostela airport. * On arriving at Santiago de Compostela, even though it was out of the peak holiday...

compostela Beach the same.

Advantages: cheap good area and close to beach
Disadvantages: not great entertainment rooms satisfactory

...Tenerife. This is a small island but with lots to do and see. With the main attraction being mount tedie. This is something that is well worth going to see and spending a day doing. It cost us about £15 per adult to go to the peek of tedie, worth taking warmer clothes as it gets rather cold and very wind (ladys don't wear a skirt) as i found out they fly away. Other places to visit which are good for shopping are Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Cruz. There are many other attractions and water parks to visit. compostela Beach resort I found this a nice clean place and are rooms were satisfactory we didnt have no tv or air conditioning which would of come in handy. As we stayed there for two weeks i did find that though we had are beds and towels changed regulary they didnt seem to sweep the floors so by the end of the two weeks...

Review of Compostela Beach Resort, Tenerife

Skiing/Snowboarding from Santiago.

Advantages: different unspoiled powder relaxed
Disadvantages: mid-priced

...About 2 hours east of Santiago are the ski resorts of La Parva, El Colorado and Valle Nevado. All 3 resorts are connected (you can ski between them if you have the right pass) and there are plenty of runs and some world-class off-piste. You can make the trip up and down from Santiago in a day but its worth taking two (at least) if you can ski or snowboard. As well as the resorts, there is a small town called Farrellones located next to the resort of El Colorado. You can walk from Farrellones to the lowest lift at el colorado, from where the lift attendants will let you on if you promise to buy a lift pass when you get off - at the resort proper. Be warned though - it's a button lift. You can hire ski and snowboard equipment at any of the resorts, but neither equipment hire nor lift passes come cheap. Ski-ing is very much for the elite...

parque santiago 111

Advantages: very good location, excellent accommodation
Disadvantages: none

...you could use but you have to buy your own bats and balls. There was a lot of security around these apartments with patrols day and night which made us feel secure. There are lots of shops beneath the apartments but there was no noise from them. Generally the apartments were quiet and peaceful. The supermarket is just across the road selling fresh baked bread and all your essentials. The surrounding area is full of top class restaurants, Chinese, Spanish, Mexican, Indian, American and many more. We were spoilt for choice as where to eat in the evening. The location of the apartments is very good and you could walk to either Los Cristianos one way or in to Playa de las Americas town the other. I would not hesitate to recommend these apartments to anyone of any age. They are fantastic!...

Review of Parque Santiago III, Tenerife

The Good, the Bad and the downright Awful

Advantages: Very efficient, clean city with good seafood
Disadvantages: Concha Y Toro vineyard trip

...on big portable display boards and we walked amongst them smiling and being generally English tourist like - not speaking but being very polite! We walked down a pedestrianised street to the Plaza de Armas which was surrounded by Colonial buildings and has a fountain and statues in the middle. We sat at a cafe under an umbrella in the sunshine and watched people going about their daily lives. We were warned that there were pick pockets around the Square and to keep hold of our bags and cameras rather than put them on a chair beside us which we did so we had no problems. It was once again very relaxing just sitting and watching the activities of the people in the Plaza. There were quite a number of dogs wandering round and when we asked our local guide he said there were 300 thousand strays in Santiago. What was strange was that they...

Chile In Winter

Advantages: A relatively gentle introduction to South America.
Disadvantages: For such a big city it lacks a little in visitor attractions.

...'ll only ever need to use Line 1 that stretches the length of Alameda. A one way ticket costs the same ($290) whether your destination is 1 or 10 stops away. If you use the metro a lot it makes sense to get a discounted 10 trip ticket. The metro is particularly useful if you are heading for the main bus station as the Universidad De Santiago stop is right beside it. The trains are clean, safe and like the inter city buses run like clockwork. ATTRACTIONS A good place to get a few helpful maps of the city is the Officina De Turismo on calle Mercado. The staff don't speak much English but they ply you with plenty of maps and visitor guides once you give the right signals (a lost look works best for us!). For some reason the main tourist office, Senatur, is situated out in Providencia (where the high rollers stay) so you'd be best served...

Diamond review  Rio de Janeiro

Advantages: Rio
Disadvantages: Violence

...Rio de Janeiro "River of January" is the second major city of Brazil, behind only São Paulo. Its 8 million inhabitants occupy an area of 485 square miles. There are three main city districts: Centre, South, and North. The city centre is the financial and business district of Rio. After the transfer of the capital to Brasília, in 1960, the process of economic transfer to São Paulo was increased. The summer months officially begin around November and end in March. Rio has a Tropical climate. The temperature can occasionally reach 40°C in inland areas of the city, The official song of Rio de Janeiro is "Cidade Maravilhosa", which means "marvelous city". The song is considered the "civic anthem" of Rio, and is the favourite song during Rio's Carnival in February....

Review of Rio de Janeiro

De-lightful and stunning venue!

Advantages: Excellent service, beautiful grounds, superb accommodation
Disadvantages: Not close to public transport access

...excellent. One of our friends had the Thetford pork loin, one had the organic salmon, and three of us opted for the carvery which on weekends you had to have two courses, but given the selection of starters and desserts was no real trial! - We naturally went for the dessert option! We also had drinks and a couple bottles of wine - No-one in our group could fault the quality and service, especially when the member of waiting staff overheard us wishing our friend happy birthday - She asked if we would like some balloons - and a few minutes later came back with a bunch all ribboned and weighted! You can see the full selection of menus offered at Dunston Hall if you go to the De Vere website. After lunch we took and gentle stroll in the grounds, and were able to view parts of the golf course that are part of the complex. As we were only...
