...Bali is one of the small islands that make up the archipelago of Indonesia. This particular island is a confusing mix of tourism and local culture. There are parts of the island that still remain virtually untouched, but then there are other parts, like Kuta that have a real intensive level of tourism (mainly Australians), with a very Americanised culture. If you are going to Bali, I would recommend the resort of Sanur, again it is quite ?touristy?, but there is still some local charm to be found. If you are looking for peace and quiet, then Sanur is preferable to Kuta. For someone wanting a dynamic holiday, Bali is definitely not the place to go. Safe and Sanur

Advantages: Peaceful and less hassle
Disadvantages: See above; but it depends on what you want

...This is a follow-up to Scam in Kuta. It rather scared me out of the region, or at least put me off Kuta for a while. Headed for somewhere quiet, and found that somewhere in Sanur; and bliss in comparison. Stayed at the Santai Hotel, which has a fantastic vegetarian restaurant incorporated into it; Kafe Jali Tawa, the food is just marvellous.Its also got an Internet centre on site. All in all, very laid back and environmentally friendly. Just what i needed after my first piece of excitement in Kuta. There's a marvellous stretch of beach, which has a boardwalk running the length, although a little broken in some places, and very little hassle; and the little was pretty friendly. A great place to relax and unwind for a few days. Not, a tremendous amount to do, although the night market is well worth a visit; and you can always pop...

Fabulous holiday destination

Advantages: Fantastic
Disadvantages: long way away!

...I visited Bali last September with my boyfriend. We chose to stay in Sanur (south of Denpasar airport) in the Hotel Sanur Beach (4*). We took a taxi from the airport which was extremely cheap and I would recommend this over prebooking an expensive transfer as the Balinese were very friendly and helpful. Sanur is the perfect beach destination in Bali, it's a lot quieter than Kuta and not as exclusive as Nusa Dua. There are numerous craft shops, stalls and cafes along the streets of Sanur and not very much traffic. The weather was perfect and the ambience was relaxed. Bali itself is paradise, idyllic scenery and beautiful flora. It's possible to do various watersports along the beach and many of the big hotels have there own facilities. We were not short of things to do, but I would recommend Sanur for a relaxing, chilled...

La Taverna, Relax in Paradise!

Advantages: Great beach location, facilities and staff that will become your friends!
Disadvantages: Very quiet, nothing for children

...Visiting Bali for the 1st time, as a family for Christmas, La Taverna was booked 'blind' from the internet but what a find. Right on Sanur's golden beaches the complex is a mixture of bungalow units and some larger 2 floor suites. All rooms were perfectly clean, made up daily with well stocked mini-bar, linen and much needed Air-con. The on site restaurant was one of the best and most reasonably priced in the whole of Sanur, by the 2nd day we new the staff by name and the service was informal but excellent, like the food. The choice of food was good and meals could be taken in the main restaurant or on the beach for lunch and dinner with entertainment provided on selected nights. La Taverna has its own private beach area on which to relax and a small swimming pool also. The private beach (one of the only ones on the entire beach...

Wonderful Bali : Island of Nature

Advantages: Beauty nature, bargainable price, multicultural societies.
Disadvantages: Some prices are relatively high, english language ability.

And I must suggest you to go there! =) First of all, mentioning beach, Bali has a lot of beautiful beaches, including Kuta beach, Legian beach, Sanur beach and many more. It is well-known in Bali for spending time watching sun-being-set in the mouth of the coast. It was wonderful. The seas are somehow blue, reflecting the meaning of the real sea, what should it be. Second, the shopping center. It is growing everyhwere, with some international brands take participation. Third, the place to stay. It is very easy in Bali to find out the place to stay, even for a night only. Hotels, ranging from 1-star until 7-star are there to serve you, with good and acceptable standard. Four, the society. Bali is known as one international island in Indonesia, and of course, English language is likely to be spoken...

Review of General: Bali

Legong dancing

Advantages: good cultural experience
Disadvantages: hair raising journey by mini bus

...I stayed in Bali last year with my husband and two kids as part of a round the world trip. Although we were staying in Sanur we decided to go on a trip to Ubud to see the legendary Legong dancing. The dancing takes place in the ruins of Ubud Palace in the dark and is extremely dramatic. The town of Ubud itself is quite scruffy but this was more than compensated for by the magic of the ruins and the dancing. It was pretty packed by the time we got there and it would be a good idea to get there early to ensure a good view. There are plenty of places in Ubud to eat before the dancing and we ate like kings for £16 for the four of us including drinks.Despite the terrible driving by the mini bus driver it made a great change from the relatively Westernised surroundings of our hotel in Sanur and gave us a good insight into Balinese culture....

Review of Ubud (Bali)

Where i fell in love

Advantages: Good base for seeing the rest of the country, and cake
Disadvantages: Touristy

...This is fast becoming a travelogue (See 'The Scam in Kuta' and "Safe and Sanur'). Got the air-con tourist bus into Ubud - or so i thought. The bus actually drops you at the perimeter, where you are quickly approached by taxi drivers offering shelter beneath large umbrellas (rainy season), and quoting extortionate prices to take you anywhere; but of course it is haggleable (is there such a word?); then a few minutes later, dropped at the Artini Cottages 2, quoted another price, haggled again (you do get used to it) and then agreed. (Although, as i walk away, i always feel that i shoud have haggled some more). Anyway, the Artini was amazing; wooden, two-tier cottage, huge bed, verandah, whirring fan, hot and cold water, and views out across the paddy fields, lush and green; plus complimentary flask of tea. And all for a tenner...

Review of Ubud (Bali)

Paradise On Earth

Advantages: Sun, Heat, Surf, Cheap, Clean and Safe
Disadvantages: Long distance flight, Expensive flight

.... The standard of hotel was exceptional. Booked through the net a 4 star hotel cost us about $10US. We moved onto Sanur where the beaches are used for holiday brochures. Long stretches of sand with palm trees growing out of them and bending towards the sea. The sea was always calm and perfect for both scubadiving as well as snorkelling. We stayed in a beach hut with hammocks outside for the equivalent of £4. Ideal for students. We also went to Jimbaran Bay where romantic dinners cost next to nothing and you can have the lobster which is always too pricy back home!! The sunsets in the Bay are famous and sitting on the beach at 7pm eating with the sun dropping, leaving the sky a million different shades of red and orange is truly the most romantic setting. The people are very friendly on the island and we were invited into their homes for dinner...

Then you should pick these regions: Kuta, Tuban, Sanur - If you're planning to have a nice not so crowded places. Pick Seminyak area - Planning on a remote and quiet village/forest environment? pick Ubud 2. Plan your hotel Since this is a budget review :) You might want to find hotels with an average $50-$80 / night rate. There are lots of nice and descent boutique hotels with that rate My plan is 5 days & 4 nights stay. My suggestion if you see above tip (no. 1).. pick seminyak area Most will think seminyak hotels and villas are expensive, not all of them. a few recommendations of seminyak area: - Villa Lumbung - Casa Indigo - Clio Bali ( service apartment ) three above averaged $50-$60 rates.. not that close to the beach...
