Savvy Style
Advantages: Very high spec, good looks, low tax and insurance, air-con standard
Disadvantages: The name, service intervals
...I've had my Proton Savvy for 3 months now and have completed 3,000 miles in it. Before buying it I looked at the competition - Ford Ka, Kia Picanto, Skoda Fabia and Renault Clio but decided on the Savvy for it's spec for money. The car cost me £6995 plus £300 for Metallic 'Steal Grey' and £125 for a boot spoiler, and for that I got alloys, air-con, ABS, power steering, fogs, CD player, remote locking with alarm and electric front windows all included in the price.
The warranty was pretty good too - 60,000 miles or 3 years.
One thing that annoys me a little - the Savvy is based around the Renault Clio - it has a 1.2 Clio engine and gearbox (apparently Proton couldn't fit their "Campro" engine in this one, and to be honest I don't think they've made a mistake). However, the service intervals are once a year or every 9,000 miles...

Street Savvy
Advantages: Small and easy to use
Disadvantages: Fiddly keys and small screen
...of the year to hunt for phones, as every man and his dog seemed to have got there first. The cheapest phones on any pay as you go scheme cost around £40 and they were all gone! I eventually found the last cheap display model in town in “mobile phones direct”
I chose myself a Phillips Savvy phone with a nice blue cover with £5 off for shop soiling of course. Is it a good phone? Well I’ve been using it for a week and I’ve had no problems with it, it’s light (143 grams) it’s small enough (129 x 48 x 24 mm) to fit into the phone pocket on my coat (otherwise I’d be carrying pens around in it). I know it’s aimed at teenager but it was cheap!!
It runs off a power cell which has 130 - 250 hours and call time of 2-4 hours, the power cell can be swapped for normal batteries, 4xAAA’s. I did...

Sensible Savvy
Advantages: Cheap. Good handy size. Not bad features.
Disadvantages: none
...I got this little Philips Savvy for my daughter about four months ago.
She’d been pestering the life out of me for ages, and for the sake of peace and quiet, I eventually gave in.
My niece got a special offer through her Student’s Union at University, which meant the phone only cost us £29, including a call card for £20 worth of free calls. I opted for the pre-paid method of payment, as otherwise we would have ended up with huge bills. With the pre-paid, she pays for the cards herself, which makes her that bit more cautious in her usage.
We had great fun working out all the settings together.
The first thing we did was to look at the different tones you can set for your ring tone and your number dialling tone.
The range of tunes for the ring tone is fairly good, with a choice of about 20 tones, but she was...

Savvy not for me
Advantages: see text
Disadvantages: see text
...I bought this phone a couple of months ago, in the misguided belief that it was better than my trusty Nokia 5146, which I have had over 2 years. So money in hand I dived into Dixons, not a sensible choice from what I have read, but anyway I handed over the princely sum of £29.99 and walked away with my new Philips Savvy on the orange pay as you go tariff.
Once home I ripped open the box to see a levely metallic blue phone, about 5 inches in length and just short of 2 inches wide. The ariel is fixed and protrudes about 1 inch above the phone.
The keypad has the usual numbers/text buttons and hash and star key. There are also 5 other buttons, a menu button, 'c' button, green button with a telephone on it, a red button and the navigation key. The buttons are similar in size to the Nokia 5110, one of the reasons I bought the phone, as...

Simply savvy.
Advantages: light and cheap
Disadvantages: biocalender
...), and of course silent.
Now we come to my most and least favourite functions on the phone; the vibrate ring alert and the biocalender 'game'.
An alternative to the traditional ringer is the vibrate function, which is perfect for discreet occasions such as the cinema, but is probably used by people who secretly get a kick from the phone vibrating against your leg, like me.
Next, the biocalender. This utterly useless function is described as a 'horoscope game', but is just a pathetic excuse to say they have more functions on their phone. the idea behind the 'game' is that you enter your birthdate and today's date, and it predicts your chance, love, energy and success ratings for that day. I used it about 3 times when I first got the phone, I doubt I will again.
Well, there you go, the philips savvy. If you want a cheap, light...

Sexxy Savvy
Advantages: Small, cheap
Disadvantages: Small screen
...For my birthday, my parents bought me a Savvy on the Orange 'Pay as you go' scheme. I thought to myself, where's my Nokia??? But after a month, I am beginning to change my mind.
Use-The Savvy is very easy to use, once you get used to it. The navigation is simple, phoning people is easy, and texting is quite fun to do. Unfortunately, teh keys are rather small, so all you fat fingered people out there, choose a different phone. Also the Savvy is quite small. It fits nicely into someone's jean pockets, but the aereal does tend to stick into you. But, the aereal is there to improve connection, and it does.
Extras-On the phone, you will find no games, a stopwatch, a clock, alarm and few other bits. These can all be quite useful. Also, if you choose to ,you can set your own pin for the phone, and a pin2. The pin2 can be...

Philips Savvy cheap and Cheerful or Nasty
Advantages: cheap, clock, calculator
Disadvantages: difficult to use menu's, difficult to erase text messages
...I recently bought an Orange Philips Savvy mobile phone to replace my aging Motorolla MR30 which was begining to have battery problems - not recharging properly and also switching off at random. I bougt it for £29.99 (as a Pay As You Go Phone) and replaced the sim-card with the one from my MR30, although I had to cut the centre of the sim-card out as the MR30 uses a full-size sim-card and the Philips Savvy uses a small size.
Although the Savvy has a number of good points it definately shows its budget price. The menu is more dificult to go through, and when displaying text messages only a few words are visible at a time, also to delete text messages then the whole message has to be read before deleting - this can be time consuming. (In the MR30, deleting can be obtained by pressing the o.k. button then delete). Only 90 numbers can be...

My Savvy does my needs
Advantages: It's nice to look at!
Disadvantages: It's a bit slow!
...I've had my Philips Savvy Vogue now for 2 1/2 years. I think my phone is pretty to look at. It's pretty metallic blue cover sparkles every time I look at it.
Ok, ok I know it's not the best phone in the world, compared to latest phones on the market but it suits my needs. I don't want a phone that can sends photos but just to communicate normally through a phone call. I also enjoy sending texts but this phone can be quite annoying and slow when it comes to this texting lark. The many times I've had to delete to correct is just plain annoying. Argh!! But I did have ultimate 360 degree spin on my main functioning OK button. Now, not a lot of phones can do that. I was fortunate enough to have this problem under my years guarentee and Philips were happy enough to fix my little problem. I also had problems with some of the keys...

An underated little car
Advantages: The gearbox, warranty package, price, features, looks, low running costs
Disadvantages: Plastic inside feel chaep
...I had a four month contract with a company last summer & they supplied me a new Proton Savvy AMT for daily use. I normally drive a larger car so when I found out this was going to be my transport for four months I wasn't particularly pleased.
How wrong could I have been? When I saw it for the first time it looked quite cheeky from the front & rear but a bit awkward from the side. Looks are a subjective matter & as time went on I grew to like the look of the car.
It was a top of the range model (about £7.5k) with automatic manual transmission (yes really!!), this was to become one of its most endearing features.
Outside the car came with smart looking alloy wheels, driving lamps, reversing sensors, tailgate spoiler & body coloured bumpers & mirrors. It looked rather good in black.
Inside the specifications were fantastic for a city...
