Dexxa Flatbed Scanner 4800
Advantages: well priced
Disadvantages: A bit larger than most modern scanners
...If you are looking for a well priced easy to use desktop scanner, look no further. In the past 12 to 18 months most hardware has seen dramatic price reductions and in the case of flatbed scanners there is no exception. The biggest problem here is knowing which makes and models will be most compatible to which computers, also what capabilities they have.
The Dexxa 4800 Flatbed Scanner is very standard as far as looks go but handles virtually all types of materials to scan, if you placed your hand on the screen it would even scan that clearly.
The scan range (resolution) is anything between 50 and 4800 DPI which I'm sure for anyone is more than enough, besides which the high end resolutions would take enormous amounts of memory and super powerful computers to be any use.
For most people the Dexxa 4800 is ideal and will work easily...

A Good Epson Scanner
Advantages: Cheap and does a good job
Disadvantages: Not the greatest of scan quality
...the package I got when the PC was bought, this is fairly quick. It can copy 7.68 ms/line when operated at 1600 dpi but can only manage around 5.12 ms/line when set to 600 dpi. This isn't too bad, if you don't have lots of sheets to scan. If you want to send somebody a 30-page report via e-mail, I can imagine the scanning process being very slow and annoying. If there was an auto feed mechanism then this would be a problem, but you have to insert each sheet you want copied, individually.

Resolution
The resolution on this machine isn't that good compared with most other scanners, but it is still good enough to produce good quality scans. The Optical Resolution is 1600 dpi x 3200 dpi, which isn't too bad for a scanner at this price. The Interpolated Resolution comes in at 12800 dpi x 12800 dpi. You don't really need much...

A Scanner Darkly
Advantages: Good Special Effects
Disadvantages: Not many
..."A Scanner Darkly" is based on the novel by Philip K Dick. Richard Linklater's film stars Keanu Reeves as undercover narcotics policeman; Bob Arctor. This is an interesting film but it didn't really move me deeply. There was some good acting but the story line was simply not exceptional. On deep reflection it is not a film that I would recommend. But if you want to watch it do so at your own risk.

Very dissapointing for a scanner of this cost
Advantages: I cannot see any advantages with this product
Disadvantages: Software is convoluted and unreliable, paper jams are difficult to clear
...(1)
- Making adjustments to one part (e.g. picture area) changes other settings (e.g. lighten/darken)
- Scanning slides is easier than negatives as it get adjustments back-to-front with negatives
- Software is slow e.g. re-sizing a scan area is very processor intensive and takes a long time
- Slides / negs are scanned very badly and need to be corrected using an external application
- There is no hour-glass so it is difficult to know when the software is busy or has crashed
2) Scanning a Document
Scanning using the document feeder is even more painful. E.g. to scan a document using B&W, 600dpi:
(1) start "Scan Picture"
(2) set up scan area / preferences etc. (e.g. B&W, 600dpi)
(3) save these settings under a name
(4) exit "Scan Picture"
(5) open Settings and select settings saved in step (3)
(6) exit Settings
(7) start...

Excellent Quality A3 Flatbed Scanner
Advantages: Full A3 Flatbed Scanner, Very Fast
Disadvantages: Price, Glass can get scratched, Heavy (13Kg)
...to a 2.4Ghz PC with USB 2.0 ports, and the scanner is very quick, with a full A3 scan at 300DPI with lots of the post processing options turned on taking approximately 30 seconds.
The scan quality is very good, having a resolution of 600 dpi x 1200 dpi, but with software interpolation, it is possible to scan at up to 9600 dpi x 9600 dpi. Dont forget though, that with the higher resolutions, the file sizes shoot through the roof, and the time it takes to actually scan increases dramatically. The time it takes to do anything can also take forever (even on a fast computer). From experience, you would very rarely need to scan anything over 300-400dpi anyway.
The colour reproduction is one of the best I have seen from a flatbed scanner. With a bit if fiddling with the settings, excellent results are possible.
As for the price, they...

Epson V100 Flatbed Scanner
Advantages: Good quality scans, easy to connect, works with Vista (only V32 tested)
Disadvantages: Slow in use, 30 sec warmup before each scan; software setting tedious
...Cheap easy to fit and works with Vista too. Quality of image produced is very good. This scanner though is let down by its software. Yes, you can do almost anything you want but the software is oriented around single jobs. If you have an application where you might want each time to scan first a photo and then a form then it's very tedious setting everything up each time. Not only that but if you want to use it for archiving documents it needs half a minute warm up bvetweeneach and every scan. Even if you scan multiple sheets using Acrobat as the controlling software, if you haven't turned the page and clicked on next scan within ten seconds then you have a 30 second wait. As if all that isn't enough the flat bed cover doesn't press out any folds in a letter so dark patches can require duplicate scans....

Great Scanner
Advantages: good quality scanning
Disadvantages: software is rubbish, can take for ever to scan an image
...I bought myself this to scan various things (old photos, documents and some sheet music) and this does the job pretty well. It was a bit on the expensive side but I needed something that would give me good quality and I could trust that it would work well so I went for HP as they are well known for good quality products.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
It can scan at up to 4,800 dpi (dots per inch)
It has 96 bit colour
It has a 216x311mm scanning screen
Connects by USB
It is 303x508x108mm (wxdxh)
It weighs 5.2 kg
So it can give you very good quality, it gets a lot of colours, it's got a decent sized scanning screen, it's pretty big and it's not a light weight utility. There is nothing in there to put me off though because I still bought it.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT

A Scanner Darkly
Advantages: Very Stylistic, gerat soundtrack
Disadvantages: difficult to follow
...Having read Philip K Dicks book, A Scanner Darkly, I was eagerly awaiting the film adaptation. Upon hearing that George Clooney had optioned it no less, and that Richard Linklater was down to direct it I was kind of ecstatic. I have a lot of respect for George Clooney, following his efforts to turn out less main stream Hollywood films, in favour of thought provoking and interesting films. So when I heard that Keanu Reeves had go the lead role as Bob Arctor, my heart sank.
To be fair to Reeves, his last couple of films have been stinkers. Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions were not bad down to his acting, more to the clunky direction of the Wachowski Brothers. But the lead character for A Scanner Darkly, in my opinion would always have needed someone who had a half decent range, and not someone who cam across as a bit of an airhead...

canons ultimate scanner
Advantages: fairly easy to use and great software
Disadvantages: yet to find one
...transfers and scanning speeds.
The included software greatly enhances resolution, up to an amazing 19200 colour dpi. Built-in retouching technology removes much of the dust and scratches on original prints, and revives faded images. One convenient cable to your computer provides both a USB connection and power. Large function buttons automate the scanning process - select the use for the image, and it's ready in seconds.
priced between 65 and 80 pound this scanner is nowhere near the most expensive on the market but cant be far off being one of the best!
feast your eyes over its impresive Specifications.

V200 Epson Scanner.. almost perfect!
Advantages: Good quality and cheap
Disadvantages: Slow
...I absoutly love this scanner, it is fantastic and great value for money at £69.99 for a scanner you cant go wrong.
I have so many photos of me and my family when I was a child, and I felt it would be great to buy a scanner and put them onto the computer just in case something happens to the photos I at least know I'll still have kept the wounderful memories on my computer.
.
Why is this scanner so great?
The scanner accurately recreates images and documents at high resolutions of up to 4800dpi and 3.2 optical density.
The scanner has a capiticy of 6 frames of 35mm filmstrips or 4 frames of 35mm mounted slides.
I found the Scan-to-email button for sending an email message with image attached really useful especially as I have a lot of family in New Zeland I can send them photos without any delay.
The scanner also has a Scan...
