Excellent Quality A3 Flatbed Scanner
Review of Epson GT 15000 Pro by
BorisHotch
Advantages: Full A3 Flatbed Scanner, Very Fast
Disadvantages: Price, Glass can get scratched, Heavy (13Kg)
...This A3 flatbed scanner was purchased to compliment an older Epson GT12000 Scanner.
The initial setup was very straightforward, being both SCSI and USB, with the USB being the preferred method mainly for the convenience of being able to switch on the scanner without having to reboot the machine (which has to be done with SCSI if it wasn't on at bootup), and also not having to take the case off the PC to install a SCSI card.
It is also possible to connect it with an optional IEEE 1394 (Firewire) card, which can transfer data at up to 400Mbps, but I can't say how much it costs or if its easy to set up, apart from the fact that you have to remove the back of the scanner to insert the card.
Another optional extra available is an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), which allows you to scan in up to 100 sheets. The only downside...

Too expensive for an A3 scanner???
Review of Epson GT 15000 by
andyw22
Advantages: Great resolution options, speed and ease of use
Disadvantages: Price may put people off
...lock which disables the scanner. The scanner comes with a range of connection options, USB 1.1, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed, SCSI-2 and IEEE 1394. The latter to be used in conjunction with the optional IEEE 1394 Scanner I/F Card.
In order to start the scanning software, the scanner must be switched on. A good feature here is that the scanner utilises a High-Bright Xenon Lamp for instant use and virtually zero warm up. When loaded you are presented with a simple menu that can be altered in complexity depending on which mode you wish to use the scanner in, home (most basic), Office or Professional (most advanced) The latter of which allows for alterations such as exposure, histogram adjustment and tone correction. Generally when you have played with as little or as many settings as you like to get your desired image in preview mode, hit scan...

Great Card - cheaper now A2 is out
Review of Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy Platinum eX by
pob0782
Advantages: innovative, great quality
Disadvantages: expensive
...OK, so this card is a little long in the tooth now - it has been out for some years ,and the audigy 2 is now widely available.
However, this is still a very good card. 5.1 Surround Sound is available, as is Digital Out. There is a problem with the card requiring 2 PCI Slots (well it actually only requires one, plus a blanking panel slot for the daughterboard).
As well as offering full 5.1 Surrond Sound capability, the card has a Firewire (IEEE1394) slot available. This allows easy connection of Digital Camcorders, Scanners, external hard drives, CR/DVD Writers, and a host of other equipment to your machine.
The card itself incorporates multi-channel, 24-bit digital/analogue conversion to give an incredible signal-to-noise ratio of some 100dB and crystal-clear, hiss-free audio, perfect for PC gaming, DVD Watching, and music.
With its...

Any of your business ?
Review of Epson GT 15000 by
benraiben
Advantages: Accurate Scans| Perfect for small buisnesses.
Disadvantages: The Price|Not the nicest looking deisgn.
...a single scanner ".
This scanner is powerful and boasts a 600 x 1200 dpi resolution and 48-bit color for incredible detail on scans up to 11.7" x 17.
The scanner has a fast startup time and is ready literally within a few seconds. The scanner is capable of whizzing through two-page spreads in one single scan, and is it is capable of accommodating a variety of documents. It even offers an optional automatic document feeder festure, (ADF, for short) which enables scanning from up to 100 sheets without any user intervention, and without sacrificing image quality.
The Epson GT-15000 can quickly accommodate virtually any scanning project. This high-value product even includes fast USB 2.0 and SCSI-2 connectivity, with an optional IEEE 1394 interface. In addition, an optional network card is available, enabling busy workgroups to share a single...

Lets Slide into Scanning
Review of Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED by
gwarwick
Advantages: Exceptional Quality of Image, Worth its money
Disadvantages: Takes time to get used to controls.
...!
·Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED
·Slide Mount Adapter – for scanning individual mounted slides
·Strip Film Adapter – for scanning a strip of negatives, or a role of film
·Nikon Scan 3.1 Driver Software
·IEEE 1394 PCI Board (This is an interface board which needs to be installed inside your computer if you do not already have one installed. Without it the scanner will not work. If you do not have a spare PCI slot in your computer then you will not be able to by this scanner. If unsure ask!)
APPEARANCE
The Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED is primarily silvery grey with a black plastic sliding “door” at the front, which is where the adapters are inserted. The device is very sleek and much smaller than I was expecting it to be. Photos on the internet gave me the impression that it would be the size of a computer tower, but far from it. You can pick...

A professional grade scanner at affordable pricing
Review of Epson Perfection 2450 Photo by
rex73
Advantages: Great Look, quality of workmanship, great resolution, speed (USB 2.0 and IEEE firewire connection
Disadvantages: Will not scan anything beyound 8.5" x 11" max
...any 1.1 USB equipment to a USB 2.0 port.
However, many of the relatively new computers are not USB 2.0 ready, so if the speed is issue to you, you have two options with this scanner. You can either purchase an USB 2.0 to PCI expansion card (if you are going to do so the Startech www.startech.com makes great and inexpensive USB 2.0 cards) or if your computer comes equipped with the IEEE1394 (firewire) port, you can also hook up this unit this way as well for almost equal blazing speeds and reliability.
As far as the operational specs of this unit, the stats that this unit offers are quite impressive. The unit is capable of scanning anything up to 8.5" x11" (this is the only downplay I have found with this unit; would be nice if the unit could scan at least legal size documents but I suppose I can live with that) and a blazing resolution...

One Touch and Away You Go
Review of Xerox 4800TA OneTouch by
rachel1431
Advantages: Quick to Install And Easy to Use
Disadvantages: Mabe software a little complicated for novice users
...with the quality. I have scanned photographs, text and things like passports - all very good. Company logo's scan very well indeed. The only problem I have found is that flesh tones are a little disappointing as the come out over-saturated and largely unnatural looking.
My scanner before this one was a Mikrotec which I found to be very temperamental and often didn't work, touch wood so far with the Xerox I have experienced no problems at all.
Here is a brief outline of the features:
Bluetooth: No
Colour Depth in Bits: 48
Colour depth (bits per pixel): 48
Document Feeder Type: Flatbed
Feed: Flatbed
Film Adapter: Yes
Firewire: No
Maximum Document Size: 12 Inch (30 cm) A4
Parallel Interface: No
SCSI: No
Scan Resolution in dpi: 1200

Dexxa Flatbed Scanner 4800
Review of Dexxa Flatbed Scanner 4800 by
Trev1000
Advantages: well priced
Disadvantages: A bit larger than most modern scanners
...If you are looking for a well priced easy to use desktop scanner, look no further. In the past 12 to 18 months most hardware has seen dramatic price reductions and in the case of flatbed scanners there is no exception. The biggest problem here is knowing which makes and models will be most compatible to which computers, also what capabilities they have.
The Dexxa 4800 Flatbed Scanner is very standard as far as looks go but handles virtually all types of materials to scan, if you placed your hand on the screen it would even scan that clearly.
The scan range (resolution) is anything between 50 and 4800 DPI which I'm sure for anyone is more than enough, besides which the high end resolutions would take enormous amounts of memory and super powerful computers to be any use.
For most people the Dexxa 4800 is ideal and will work easily...

Umax Astra 2000P
Review of UMAX Astra 2000P by
markedwards
Advantages: good price
Disadvantages: persistent failure
...Hi
I used to have a Umax Astra 2000P parallel-port flatbed scanner, but after the third one went wrong, I asked Umax's UK support provider to give me something else, because the darn thing would always go wrong when I most needed to copy a document or scan something.
I don't know if this is the experience of other users, but the parallel port model was nothing but trouble from the start.
The problem was always scanner connection. VSaccess used to suddenly and without warning say the scanner was undetectable and that was it. The last problem occurred during a scan - my machine hung whilst it was scanning happily, but following reboot the scanner was permanently undetectable.
I now have a 2200 instead, which has worked fine (so far), but did need me to go and buy a scsi card....
