Sunny Sandy Scarborough

Advantages: nice seaside destination
Disadvantages: very busy in the summer holidays

...I've been to Scarborough a couple of times with friends and enjoyed the time I spent there. It's a stereotypical British seaside resort, complete with donkey rides on the beach. I think it's a great place to visit for a day, maybe two, but I wouldn't want to spend the week there. ~ The Beaches ~ Scarborough has two bays, the north and south. Both of these have long, sandy beaches perfect for sandcastles, paddling, sunbathing and everything else you'd expect of a beach. If you go on the weekend in the middle of summer though you can expect these beaches to be packed. The north beach tends to be quieter, but that might be because there's less there. You'll find a couple of little shops selling ice creams and bucket and spades, but not a lot else at the north bay. If you want a beach with more room to spread out for a game...

Scarborough - Fantastic for a break

Advantages: Fantastic Place
Disadvantages: Can be busy at popular times

...Scarborough is a small seaside town located on the east coast of Yorkshire; it is quite close to Bridlington and Filey and is easily reachable by both road and rail. There is a regular train service from Leeds and York and a trans Pennine route from Liverpool and Manchester. It is about a 45-minute journey by car from York on the A64. There are plenty of parking spaces available within the town but the sea front ones tend to get busy at popular times. Most parking spaces are pay and display but I tend to use the multi storey car park at the Brunswick Shopping Centre. Once you have parked up it is only a short walk to either of the two large sandy bays, known and North Bay and South Bay. These two bays are connected by cliff lifts, which cost 60p a time, or there are also open top buses which connect these two bays if you do not wish to...

Cayton Bay, Scarborough is not the place to stay

Advantages: near to Scarborough, great views of the bay,
Disadvantages: see review - too many to list here

...Park Resorts, Cayton Bay, Scarborough is not the place to stay unless you just want to use it as a base to visit nearby attractions in the Scarborough area. My friends and I went on a Sun newspaper holiday offer in October 2008 and were disappointed with the facilities (or lack of them). On arrival at 1.30pm we were told in no uncertain terms that we couldn't book in until 4pm, but that we could use the on site facilities until then. There was a swimming pool, which was closed between 1 and 2pm daily for lunch - as as we hadn't been able to unpack our bags yet, not exactly the best option. This had a large water slide, but during our time there we never saw anyone on it. We took a quick look around the outdoor children's play area, which was quite muddy due to the wet weather we'd been having this year. I noted that there...

Bracing Scarborough

Advantages: Something for everyone
Disadvantages: The weather can be very bracing!

...Scarborough is a resort, spa and fishing town with twin bays connected by a coast road, which winds its way around the foot of the cliff on the top of which stands Scarborough Castle. The south part of the town is centred on the harbour and is the more commercialised of the two parts. The harbour itself is well used by both fishing vessels and pleasure craft. There are lots of slot machine arcades, cafes and pubs all along the harbour side, making for a busy atmosphere in the summer. At the far south of this part of the town is the Grand Hotel standing majestically on the cliff top and the main theatre of Scarborough. The shopping area is situated behind the Grand Hotel and is a good mix of High Street favourites and seaside gift shops. The north part of the town is altogether quieter being centred on a lovely park with landscaped...

St Mary's Church, Scarborough

Advantages: Fantastic architecture, lots of history, free to visit
Disadvantages: Limited opening hours

...Any visitor to the East Yorkshire resort of Scarborough will know that its castle dominates its skyline but in my opinion, The Church of St Mary adjacent to the ruins of the castle is almost just as impressive. Perched high on top of the hillside, like its more famous neighbour, the castle, this church is a landmark that can be seen from miles around. The Church of St Mary is the largest church in the town and it is the parish church of Scarborough. It is a large church and a grand one by any standards, indeed it is as large and grand as many cathedrals that I know. From the outside the first thing that struck me when I visited here a few weeks ago was how neat and tidy its church yard was. This might have something to do with the fact that the graveyard is the burial place of the 19th century writer Anne Bronte and in recent years...

Scorchin' Scarborough

Advantages: Great sandy beaches, lots to do, loads of historical interest in castle
Disadvantages: Can be a bit tacky, and gets very crowded on hot sunny Bank Holidays

...As I sit here bearing the marks of a long day in Scarborough (i.e. I'm painfully sunburnt), I thought it would be nice to share with you good people the delights to be found in one of my favourite seaside resorts... Location & Getting Around Scarborough is situated on the North Yorkshire coast, and is easily accessible by road or rail. It is served regularly by rail and bus services from York and Leeds, and is less than an hour from York on the A64. There is a Park & Ride scheme in operation from Weaponess Car Park in the south end of the town - parking isn't difficult to find, but almost everywhere is Pay and Display. Once you're in the town, it is easy to walk down to the two large bays, but it might be easier and more fun to use the Cliff Lifts, and the open-top buses connecting the two bays along the seafront. The lifts...

Sunshine Scarborough and beyond!

Advantages: lovely beaches, sea air, accessible to other areas, York, moors, dales
Disadvantages: can be very busy sunny days, some areas getting rundown.

...Scarborough has long since been known as the Uk's premier coastal resort. It is on the east coast between Whitby and Bridlington, both accessible from Scarborough within about half an hour. Scarborough's coast consists of 2 main bays, North and South bays. The north side is the less commercialised at the moment, (there are plans to develop this area in the god only knows what future) and is where you will find a beautiful clean beach and the Sea Life Centre. There is Scarborough Castle which looks over both bays, where there is often re-enactments staged. There is also Peasholm Park where there are regular entertainments through out the summer months including minature war ship battles. From Peasholm Park you can take the minature narrow gauage railway to the Sea Life Centre and back again or just one way and walk back via...

A little bit of the Orient in Scarborough

Advantages: Plenty of recreational land, free to visit
Disadvantages: Can get very busy at times

...Peasholm Park is a large public park located in the North Bay area of the East Yorkshire resort of Scarborough. It is not just the largest park in the town it is also the oldest public recreation area and over the years it has become a major tourist attraction, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Peasholm Park is clearly sign-posted from almost everywhere within Scarborough so it is never hard to find no matter whereabouts you are. Despite dozens of visits to Scarborough over the years I visited here for the very first time only recently. The first thing that I noted was that this is effectively two different parks, separated by a main road, the A165 known locally as Burniston Road. The park to the east of this road that extends to the coast is the smaller of the two halves and the first part of Peasholm Park...

Clubbing in Scarborough

Advantages: Special offers on a Saturday night, If other people don't cause trouble it's a good nite
Disadvantages: You'll see what I mean if you go!

...The choice of clubs in Scarborough is pretty limited. Holiday makers often ask which is the best club to go to and the answer is, it's hard to say. Night Clubs Planet 2000 Half price drinks b4 11.00 and £3 entry. The music isn't bad, but the atomoshere isn't always great. Don't expect the DJ to put on your favourite tune when you ask him. Coats 50p-£1. Not a bad club, but you might be left with the feeling of something missing from you night.8/10 Club XS Xs on a Saturday night can be quite expensive if you go in after 11.00. Coats 50p 6/10 Xs on a Friday night is very reasonable, as there are a number of special promotions, e.g 5 free drinks b4 11.00 and if you have NUS cards you can get in free, but this isn't advertised, as i've often paid £5 and not realised I could have got in free. 8/10 Boleyn...

Scarborough A fantastic place or holiday from hell

Advantages: Lovely in summer, loads to do
Disadvantages: Gets very busy in summer

...Well as a local to Scarborough living only a few miles from Scarborough i think that i have a vast enougth knowledge to talk about the ups and downs of Scarborough as a holiday. Scarborough can be found in North East of England. With 2 sandy beaches and livly night life there is always someting to do. Whilst tourist are in the Town traffic congestion gets quite bad so it may be best to take full adavantage of the park and ride scheme or if you are staying in a camp, come by bus. Scarborough was once one of the most famous tourist places to come in earlier years but has died down a bit since then. However with its now flurishing industrie and freindly atmosphere, Sarborough is sure to make a come back in a big way. Weather you want to take a look around Scarboroughs Castle, relax on its sandy beaches, or go shopping in...
