...Science Museum During the Easter holidays, hubby and I decided to take our children to The London Science Museum. Though it was a very long and tiring day, it was agreed we had an enjoyable time. The museum was started in the nineteenth-century. Its aim was to improve science and technical education. Prince Albert was the key figure in this development and he was responsible for the "Great Exhibition" of 1851. The buildings exterior looks aged and dated; if you walk around the rear of the museum there are various large craters in the concrete walls. These were caused by bombing in the last war and were never repaired as a show of just how much damage was done but the building still did not disintegrate. A plaque on the wall commemorates the strength of the building and its part in sustaining the war...

...I spend a lot of time in the London Science Museum, partly because it is now free to enter, and partly because I have a great love of all the sciences. Few places excite me as much as the thrill of a trip to the Science Museum. The museum is also open seven days a week between 10am and 6pm, which means it is possible to fit in visits around worktime. Ths Science Museum is located in Exhibition Road in South Kensington and is accessible by many forms of public transport. I will give a more detailed list of directions at the end of the review. Although the admission is free, you will still have to pay certain fees for different exhibitions and simulators. The Simex Simulator ride, IMAX 3D Cinema both carry an extra fee, along with quite a few other exhibitions so make sure you do take some money with you when you visit. The museum...

WELCOME TO THE AGE OF SCIENCE (Natural History Museum)

Advantages: nteresting, educational, fun, something for everybody above the age of 2, free
Disadvantages: NONE

...I was delighted to find out that National History Museum (as well as Science museum) became completely free of charge some time between 1992 when I last visited and now. As soon as my daughter was big enough to say dinosaur I took here there on one of our day London trips and we spent about 2.5 hours wandering about the collections. The building itself makes it worth a visit, now beautifully cleaned to reveal Neo-Gothic glory of the intricate multi-coloured facade where the sculptures depict members of the animal kingdom rather than gargoyles. The Natural History museum comprises Life Galleries, covering mostly animal life (a lot of them extinct) and Earth Galleries, covering subjects like geology, volcanoes, minerals and the like. Science Museum? Read this first

Advantages: Educational and Fun
Disadvantages: Tiring

...The science museum in London seemed the ideal place to take my 13 year old daughter during the school holidays and we were not disappointed. The nearest tube station is South Kensington on theDistrict/Circle/Piccadilly line. You will have to walk through a long tunnel to get there. Do not buy tickets in the tunnel we found the queue slow moving and there are plenty of cashiers selling ticket inside the museum. It will cost about £12 for adults and half price for children and 60+ senior citizens.. You will not see everything in one day so plan your visit to see areas of most interest to you. The differing areas are a bit confusing, but you will be given an excellent map with your tickets. It is worth spending five minutes studying it before you start. Main lifts will get you up to the third floor but access to the fourth...

...Gone, it would seem, are those dusty old museums of yester-year. There are no quiet wanderings along rows of glass containers containing contagious creatures that have been dead for years. There are no grumpy curates imploring you to Be Quiet! Museums are fun. The one I am about to tell you about is, anyway? For those Sundays when you feel the need to get out of the house and see some history, then in my opinion there is no better way to do this than taking a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester (MSIM). It is a great family day out and my family and I have taken about four trips there in the last couple of years. Better than my hometown Science museum

Advantages: A great, must-see museum.
Disadvantages: Expensive

...I spent almost a whole day at the Franklin Institute on my own after my wife recommended it, having told me her fond memories of visiting it herself on school class trips. It is a beautifully designed centre commited to the demonstration of science in a fairly fun and very informative way; there are activities and demonstrations for people of all ages. Educational Fun Family Day Out!

...On my recent trip to Houston Texas, my other half and I were planning what to spend one of our days doing, and decided on the Zoo. We jumped in a cab and were on our way to the zoo, or so we thought, the cabby dropped us off outside a huge building with "Museum of Natural Science" on the door. After asking, the driver assured is it was just around the back of the Museum and this was the back entrance as it's easier to park. We jumped out and figured, since we were there at the entrance, we would have a quick nose round the museum too. Entrance / Location ------------------------ As I mentioned the museum is located in Houston Texas and is in the aptly named "Museum District" (Which incidentally IS where the zoo is located too, review coming soon!) Positive Externalities and Free Rider Principle

...Well the good old British weather managed to make a significant dent into my half term break plans, the planned trip to Drayton Manor Park was postponed until the summer, both horse riding days were wet and the picnic rug remained rolled up and dry under the stairs, so in desperation we ventured off to London for some indoor stimulation at the trusty old Science Museum as it had been at least two if not three years since our last visit. The great thing about the Science Museum is that you pretty much know what to expect, lots of cool hands on stuff for the kids and there is always something that will pretty much appeal to the whole family. It is not a perfect day out but it is a pretty good one. You can certainly expect to have to battle through the crowds unless you time your visit to avoid school holidays, school trips and peak...
