...The A-Z of?
Would all Scottish people please take a big pinch of salt before reading this?lol!
The best thing to come out of Scotland is the A74, of course. Who doesn?t want to get out of Glasgow fast, now Western Europe?s most deprived city. One in four of the working population is apparently not, and so on Incapacity Benefit or Jobseekers, mostly because the City of Culture (cough!) has the highest amount of smokers, heart disease, and alcoholism rates anywhere in Western Europe. I can only imagine how painful the smoking ban was up there. But if the pungent Alex Samond gets his way he will probably cancel the smoking ban, too, to win back some delinquent vote?s next election and pep back up Scotland?s biggest industry?bingo!
A is for Andrew Murray, the best thing to come out of Scotland, sporting wise. What I like about...

Advantages: Get to know me even more! Disadvantages: I'm lonely!
...Introduction
I'm often home alone at night while my mum is working and it can get very, very, very boring because I have no friends who live near me. There are lots of things I can do to keep myself entertained. I can't choose my top 5 so here are my top 7 things I do when home alone at night:
7. Watch the TV
There's not much I like on the TV at night but I love watching friends. It's on every night! I also like The War at Home, which is on just before Friends. Sometimes all that is on is boring doccumentaries or reality TV shows (which I don't like (except Big Brother - I think it's quite good)).
6. Watch a DVD or Video
If there's nothing good on the telly then I'll watch one of my many DVDs. I have lots and lots of DVDs (most of them boring chick flicks that belong to my mum). I also have lots of videos. I have a whole...
Advantages: Great acting, story to be told Disadvantages: Gruesome
...The Last King of Scotland is a story, inspired by real people and events about the life of the Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. The film came out in 2006 and was one that I really enjoyed. In my opinion it's well portrayed, beautifully acted, tense and gripping and one you really have to watch.
Idi Amin is played by Forest Whitaker and he gives a truly haunting portrail. He's really quite scary in this film at the same time as being really captivating and interesting and it's no coincidence that people fall for his charms. I think he actually bears a little resembalance to the dictator himself and so this definitely made the look and character more believeable. In fact, it's not jsut me who thinks Forest did a great job. He won the Best Actor award at the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild and the BAFTAs for his role...
Advantages: Great performances, Tense, Compelling viewing Disadvantages: Factually inaccurate
...One of the most misleading film/book titles ever in my opinion!
So what is the film about? Is it any good?
-------------------------------------------------------
This is the tale of how the films protagonist Dr Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy) is taken under the wing of Ugandan president, Idi Amin (Forrest Whitaker). Amin just so happens to be a brutal dictator with a bit of a problem with trusting people.
Garrigan had just finished university and felt like he was trapped into following on in exactly the same manner as his father, being a doctor in Scotland. He decided he needed to make a clean break and therefore flew out to Uganda for serving both the purposes of being great help to the health of the locals and also to gain some sense of adventure.
On a chance meeting, Amin expresses his somewhat bizarre love of Scotland...
Advantages: too many too list Disadvantages: hmm, hardly any, it's just different and that's why I went there!
...Monument. Actually you can get a wonderful view of this tower from by the Stirling castle, which is on a hill from where you can observe a wonderful valley and on the other side there's the Wallace Monument.
As you can guess, this monument was erected to the Scottish national hero William Wallace nicknamed The Braveheart who fought against the English king Edward III. to maintain Scotland's independence. We paid another 5 pounds to enter, but I have to say that the best of this monument was its outside and the view you had from its top. Simply beautiful!
Glasgow
Glasgow had too much to see in just one day, so I have made two day-trips there. Already the Glasgow Central was interesting to me so there was something to look at since I got off the train.
I didn't know really anything of the city I should go see in particular, so I...

Advantages: I can sing with nobody listening to me or telling me to shut up! Disadvantages: It doesn't happen often enough!
...It isn't very often I get the house to myself. The only time I do is when my Mum & Dad have gone out for the night and my brother is round his mate's house, either staying over or just there till late. Sometimes it's when I come home from a break at college while Mum's out shopping.
But when I do, I like to make the most of it. So here is my top 5 favourite things to do when home alone.
1) If it's a special occasion, such as my birthday or Halloween or whatever, then I tend to have two or three friends over. Such as Halloween this year. We rented out a horror film and ordered a pizza. (usually on these occasions, I have to let my mum and dad know in advance that I'm having friends over, that way, they make themseleves scarce as they know they won't be able to get into the lounge all night!)
On other occasions, me and my friends...
Advantages: Great entertainment Disadvantages: None!
...Men of the world unite ? this is Top Gear. The ultimate car show. Forget the charade that is Fifth Gear over on Channel 5. BBC Two?s beloved Top Gear is the pinnacle of motoring shows.
Made by the Beeb and hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, this hourly show has been made for years now ? orginally it was more of a basic motoring review show with the likes of Clarkson and Tiff Needell, but it was completely revamped in 2002 and brought in May and Hammond to not only review brand new cars ? often sporty ones or ridiculous super cars ? but to task part in tasks to produce entertainment.
The show isn?t religiously broken down into section but there are various parts of the show which occur each week. There?s always a ?Star in a Reasonably Priced Car? who will try a lap around the Top Gear track in a Chevrolet...

Advantages: A great guide to Scotland, beautiful scenery. Disadvantages: Stand up ahow not included on DVD edition
...I have always liked Billy Connolly ( also known as The Big Yin) and it came as no surprise to find he was placed at No.1 in Channel 4's 100 greatest stand ups a couple of years ago.
His own unique style of observational comedy and story-telling, which often sees multi-layered digressions from the original story, is unlike any other comedian I have seen and I own a number of his stand up shows on both DVD and VHS.
In 1994 Billy embarked on a tour of Scotland, his homeland, playing 54 nights in the Scottish cities and towns where he performed live on stage.
Whilst on this tour, Billy was also filming a six part series for the BBC, entitled Billy Connolly's World Tour Of Scotland.
Having a love of visiting Scotland and also liking Billy Connolly as I do, I really enjoyed watching the series and bought it when it was released on VHS...
Advantages: Loads....... Disadvantages: A few........
...Ok I thought I'd tell you bunch of nosy sods what I get up to on the rare occasion I get a night alone at home!
Some of you who already know me, know I have a very busy little life at the moment, I'm a single mum to 2 children (aged 5 and 7 ½) I am at college full time (3 days at college and 2 days work placement) and I am lucky enough to have an ex partner who takes his responsibilities quite well (when he can, he also works odd shifts)
Usually I get about 2 Saturday nights per month to myself, and if I'm not going out partying (which is getting more rare because I'm skint being a student and all) then these are just five of the things I like to do when stuck in the house all on my ownsome.

Night One.

Picture the scene?. It's a Saturday night, telly's crap as usual, nip down to local blockbusters and hire...

...and took photographs. If you'd like to enter, the fees are £ 13 for the castle and £8 for the gardens.
We were delighted by this first "Scottish day", the sites and the weather played a great part in its success. We're literally under the spell of Scotland. BUT the problem is that it's 6 o'clock and we don't know where we're going to spend the night. We had the adresses of two campsites in Ayr but as time flies, we decide to stop before eaching Ayr, at Sundrum Castle Holiday Park, in Coylton.
We realized straightaway that it wasn't what we were looking for. It's a place full of caravans and mobile homes (which aren't mobile by the way). There are a bar, a swimming pool, a shop. Well, I had the feeling that people come here and spend all their time here, without visiting what's surrounding. Maybe am I mistaken but it was my first impression...
