The Shield - Award wi nning for a reason
Advantages: Brilliant, shocking storylines
Disadvantages: Ended too soon
...The Shield has to be one of the best police dramas ever written in my opinion. It has been running for seven years, but unfortunately it is now coming to an end.
Please be aware that the final season has already been broadcast on FX UK, and on Five so this review may contain some spoilers relating to all seasons.
The Shield follows the story of Detective Vic Mackey played by Michael Chiklis, and his strike team, which consists of Det. Shane Vendrell (Walton Goggins), Det. Curtis Lemansky AKA Lem(Kenny Johnson), Det. Ronnie Gardocki (David Rees Snell) and Det.Terry Crowley (Reed Diamond). The strike team are responsible for cleaning Farmington division of drugs and drug lords.
Vic and his strike team, which originally had only 4 members, resort to highly illegal tactics in order to achieve their goals. Suspicious of this Capt. David...

The Shield
Advantages: Powerful Storylines, Great Cast
Disadvantages: N/A
...A friend recommended this to me with the warning 'It's quite gritty and a bit graphic so be prepared'. This was a massive understatement.
'The Shield' focuses on group of detectives called the 'Strike Team' of the LAPD in the (fictional) Farmington District of Los Angeles. The team is led by Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) and includes Shane Vendrell (Walton Goggins), Ronnie Gardocki (David Rees Snell), Curtis Lemansky (Kenny Johnson) and Terry Crowley (Reed Diamond). As the seasons progressed the team gained new members but the ones listed above were the 'originals'. The Strike Team use questionable methods to enforce what they believe to be justice and are basically corrupt. The thing that I really like about this show is that, although you know that the team shouldn't be doing what they do, you always support them as you know that its...

Shield smash, but only if you are the hulk!
Advantages: An inbetween toy for my inbetween aged son!
Disadvantages: Doesn't allow the child to do what it is supposed too.
...My baby Connor turned 4 years old a while ago and along with the extortionate amount of money he received, a pile of toys and gifts re-appeared, funnily enough in the exact space I had only cleared last weekend of the Christmas stuff!
As I have mentioned in other reviews, my son is at a funny age not a baby by any means, (well to me he is!), but not really old enough for the toys he wants to play with.
The one type of toy he seems to receive a lot of at present are action figures, one of which I will now review.
The toy I will now review is - ?Shield smash Hulk?
Now obviously my son is discovering the Hulk a generation after we (myself and my husband) remember him, and by goodness has he change!
The toys available now are of course based on the remake film featuring Edward Norton. With this remake film being a lot more...

Shield yourself from poorly feet!
Advantages: Worked for me
Disadvantages: expensive
...walked down the aisle! Well my friend saw my distress and gave me a packet of these and I can't tell you how greatful I was.
They have a sticky back which can be used time and time again without loosing it's stick and are made of silicone. They are clear in colour, rather floppy and put me in the mind of those fake boob implants that you can pop in your bra except they aren't quite as thick because that would just be silly! The shield is designed to cushion your heel and think it's suppose to stop any discomfort if you are on your feet for a long time but I used them a little differently.
When I put them in my shoe I put them half where my sole was suppose to be and half up the back of the shoe where my heel would be. The shield gripped my sole so it stopped it from slipping down the shoe but it also cushioned the heel that was digging...

A slick print screen facility
Advantages: Options, it works well, it's free
Disadvantages: Can be slow to email as an attachment
...If you look at your computer keyboard on the top row of keys on the right hand side you?ll see the ?Prt Sc? key, the one that captures a print of the screen that you are currently looking at. It?s a very handy facility to have but notorious for not working properly & being a little restrictive.
Gadwin Systems offer free software that eliminates the problems of the ?Print Screen? facility & turns into a very slick operation. You can capture a screen print & save it for printing, you can choose a number of ?hot keys? that you prefer to use for the simple function. You can capture a full screen or a certain section; in fact there are about six different image formats to suit each individual user.
I find it very handy when your browsing through websites looking for something & come across similar offers, printing a copy of the various...

Let Good Thoughts Be Your Sword and Shield
Advantages: Clear, practical, and compassionate.
Disadvantages: I only wish more people would adopt these attitudes
...Warning: This work, The Witch's Shield by Chris Penczak, deals with issues of Psychic Self-Defense and Protective Magics. If you do not believe or are not interested in these concepts then Do Not bother with this work...or this review! Thank you...
Right out of the gate, Mr. Penczak presents us with a clear, well organized and complete list of all concerns when pondering the subject of psychic self-defense. Beginning with a look at why one would need what is, essentially, protection magic, Penczak moves us through the concepts of how we draw attention to ourselves, what we may be defending ourselves from and illustrates how in many ways, we are actually our own worst enemies.
Often times, we draw the wrong sort of attention to ourselves, don't listen to our instincts, and second guess ourselves into a corner. Awareness and self...

South Shields. Nice place, good people.
Advantages: cheap food, very friendly people
Disadvantages: not enough to do for a full week
...South Shileds is a seaside town located in the North East of England. The easiest way to get there is from Newcastle. By car take the A194 all the way to South Shields (20 minutes), or take the Metro from Newcastle Train Station to South Shields(30 minutes), and buy a day saver for 3.90. Alternataively get a bus from the town centre outisde the Eldon shopping centre, during the week Mon to Sat, us 27A, on a Sunday 57B (An hour half, maybe two on a Sunday.
If you have an all of England pass, pensioner or mobillity be advised it gives no discount on the metro.
Bed and Breakfasts are mainly located on Ocean Rd, and Beach Rd. The average price is between 20 and 30 per person per night. Try to book before as rooms can be scarce.
Food is cheap as on Ocean Rd, is 15 Indian restaraunts, and a three course meal including drink can be...

Touch Screen Fun
Advantages: Original, nice looking, sturdy
Disadvantages: Limited range of games
...screen. It really is excellent, and makes the DS worth the money. It is accurate, generally easy to control and the screen doesn't scratch permanently (you do get temporary scratches, but these rub off easily). There is a handy holder for the stylus on the side so it'll be quite difficult to lose it. There is also a D-Pad and four buttons for non-touch screen games, which are clear and easy to use.
Another control is the microphone - I have only used this for 'blowing' games, not 'talking' games, however my experience of it is negative. It doesn't work, and you'll give yourself a nasty headache trying to blow into it anyway.
-Extras-
The range of extras are things like an alarm, a Wi-Fi chatroom and a customisable profile. You can also change the colour of the start-up screen to suit your tastes. These extras are neat, but nothing to...

Unless by Carol Shields
Advantages: speaks to women, interesting story
Disadvantages: none
...'Unless' was Carol Shields last book before she sadly passed away, and her most striking. The story follows a woman who writes cheery romance-type novels, whose daughter decides to drop out of society and sit on a street corner in Toronto. Whilst trying to figure out what led her daughter to make such a radical life change, Rita thinks about her own role as a mother, a female writer, and the place women hold in western society.
Shields wasn't an overtly feminist writer; her books looked at women through the banalities and simple acts of life, yet what she has to say in 'Unless' is powerful. Her writing is also at its sharpest here, with resoundng metaphors and simple sentences which strike directly into the heart of the reader.
Above all, this is a fascinating story and character study, and Shields keeps us on our toes, guessing...

Different kind of cop, different kind of show
Advantages: Excellent story that goes full circle, compelling characters, brillliant in every way
Disadvantages: Islamophobic in one season, homophobic message in another
...It's finally over. Last Sunday The Shield wrapped up its seventh and final season and came full circle leaving viewers feeling shocked, saddened, and wondering what they will do from now on during its time-slot now that it's no longer with us.
'The Wire' is the greatest cop show on TV. Ask anyone who likes cop shows what their favourite series to watch is and they will inevitably always tell you it's 'The Wire'. Well I'm not. While I appreciate it's slow-burning labyrinthine plot and realistic approach to the City of Baltimore, I simply cannot call it the greatest cop show on TV, and that is mainly due to some actors (Dominic Cooper) being less convincing than others, with its ending being downright pitiful (it's penultimate episode was the greatest, not the series finale).
No, the greatest cop show on television is 'The Shield...
