Speedy Samsung
Review of Samsung SpinPoint Hard drive 10.2 GB by
Hellzone
Advantages: everything
Disadvantages: nothing
...After 4 or 5 years of using Seagate and western digital I got a bit fed up of self corruption from Seagate and slow relay times from Western digital, so I turned to Samsung.
The very first Samsung hard-drive I purchased was their 4gb IDE series and how I was amazed. Two years down the line and it still works perfectly, with great speeds.
Now that ive bought myself one of their 20gb series I am even more amazed.
The amount this hard-drive can hold and without flaw is astonishing to say the least, it’s a serious Seagate and Western digital beater.
In my opinion you cannot get better than Samsung they rule the hard-drive industry hands down, ive done countless reformats, repartitions everything on both Samsungs and not once has either died on me like the unforgotten Seagate’s which I previously had and neither has it slowed...

Well Worth Buying
Review of Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80 GB by
Stevis2002
Advantages: Well Priced, Good Storage, Fast access
Disadvantages: need to use disc manager software to install alongside another hard drive
...I found that my Maxtor 20GB hard drive was running out of space, so I went hunting for a replacement. The Seagate Barracuda 80GB was the drive I finally bought, and I can honestly say that it is the best value for mo0ney piece of hardware I have ever bought. At £65 from Ebuyer.com they don't come much better. I don't know all of the technical specifications, but I do know that it seems twice as fast as the Maxtor, as well as having four times the storage capacity. When I came to install it, I decided to run it as a second drive, and leave the Maxtor connected and just use it for the operating system and drivers. If you decide to use the Seagate this way, then you will need to download the Disc Manager program off the Seagate website,(www.seagate.com). Although the site is very easy to navigate around, and the program is easy to find...

None Better
Review of Seagate Hard drive 17.2 GB by
ciaobuddy
Advantages: The Best on the Market
Disadvantages: None
...I must say that I would never use anything other than a Seagate Hard Drive in any of my computers. I have never had a problem with them. They have never frozen, crashed, caused errors or any other major catastrophe.
Seagate make very reliable, easy to install hard drives at extemely affordable prices. I have tried others but at the end of the day, because the computers that I build have to be top notch, I will always plump for a Seagate. It doesn't matter what size it is their hard drives always perform to peak capacity and are compatible with any other component that I use.
You may think that I'm beginning to sound like a salesman but I think that, if you find something worth having, you should definately let others know about it.
Prices for the Seagate range from £32.95 for the 20GB U series x 20 to £360.99 for the 146.8GB...

Seagate Comes Out Top... Again!
Review of Seagate Momentus 5400.2 ST94813A 40 GB by
mattyprice4004
Advantages: Fast, Quiet and Efficient
Disadvantages: None
...quiet, relaxing music.
As for efficiency, the Seagate Momentus added another 25 minutes of battery life onto that of my IBM ThinkPad T21, from 3 hours 50, all the way to 4 hours and 5 minutes! The old 20GB Fujitsu disk must have really been guzzling some juice to use 25 minutes of power!
After having the drive for a few days I have decided not to get the 100GB disk as I have become so attached to the Momentus.
It truly is the most perfectly balanced laptop drive on the market today, so if you're in a buying decision, just don't think about it and BUY ONE! I promise you will never look back!...

Use a Seagate for your harddrive
Review of Seagate U6 Hard drive 40 GB by
Morgenhund
Advantages: cheap, easy to install, quiet
Disadvantages: no bundled software
...I bought the ST340810A – Seagates ATA-100 40Gb IDE 5400rpm hard drive when I was wanting to upgrade from a 20Gb Maxtor harddrive, and wanted a cheap and affordable hard drive. I paid ATS 1645 (around £75) for the drive, after having found this to be the lowest price for the drive on the consumer site geizhals.at (I get a lot of my hardware and software from places found here) from Goldadler – one of Austria’s cheapest computer retailers.
Obviously this isn’t going to be the fastest kid on the block, being only a 5400 rpm drive (there are of course a lot of drives at 7200RPM) although funnily enough, this drive had a better average seek time that the 7200RPM model Seagate were offering with the same capacity (8.9ms average compared with 9ms average).
It uses the Ultra ATA/100 interface, although there are patches available if your...

Cheap but not very stable
Review of Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80 GB by
beanp-271
Advantages: Cheap, fast, big storage amount
Disadvantages: Unreliable so regularly back up your files
...I was looking online for a new hard drive, to replace my old Maxtor one, when i found some very cheap Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80GB drives for sale, and bought 2, for under £20. They were bth fully working, and i fitted them straight away, as altogether it was a storage capacity of 8 times more than my Maxtor hard drive, and the spindle speed was higher as well. I installed Windows XP without any problems at all, onto one of the drives, and used the other as a secondary drive to put my work files on. For a couple of months, i was happy, as I had spotted a bargain and the hard drives were fully workin, until the secondary drive just vanished, and wouldn't boot at all, no power would go to it and I ahd lost all my work files. So i carried on with the one 80GB drive, and installed my 20GB again for extra storage space. And then about...

Barracudas fly.
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80 GB by
simcox1
Advantages: Quality make. Cost.
Disadvantages: Slight noise.
...I have had this hard drive for a few months and will give an honest review.
To begin with, I decided to build my own pc. This is not as hard as it sounds and is really just a matter of buying 5 or 6 components and plugging them all in. You can save a lot of the cost of buying from a store while getting exactly what you want.
So the hard drive I chose was this 80gb drive from Seagate. I bought it from ebuyer.com for around £40 with postage. It is an ATA (as opposed to SATA) hard drive. SATA is the latest technology and is supposed to be quicker. To be honest though this is plenty quick enough for me. I tend to surf the net a lot, trade shares online, a bit of word processing and the odd game. Nothing which requires ultra quick speeds.
The 80gb capacity is probably far too much for what I need. I think actually 20gb would be enough...

Thank goodness for the warranties
Review of Seagate - Seagate Reliability by
QuinnTheEskimo
Advantages: 3 year warranty on most Seagate HDs
Disadvantages: You'll need it :(
...My relationship with Seagate hard drives is strange. I usually use them - inside my personal PC I have 3 of them, however I don't like them. Seagate HDs seem to have a habit of dying. One or two bad blocks, then all of a sufdden they will die. I have not had one Seagate Hard drive that has lasted it's entire warranty. So it's lucky they come with a 3 year warranty, because for the price it costs to post it back to Netherlands when it dies, they replace it within the week with the same model or the next smallest size up if it's no longer available. Not really good, but at least the after-sales support is excellent. I use them in my personal PC, but I would not trust Seaghate IDE HDs in a server....

Another great Seagate Drive
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250 GB by
pdthegreat
Advantages: Price
Disadvantages: Noise
...Seagate have always made great hard drives and this is no excepetion it reads and writes fast.
This drive is one in a new range of seagate drives that use perpendicular recording technology, meaning more space per platter.
There is only one bad point to this drive and that is the noise you can here it read this may not be a problem for some but compared to the samsung hard drive I also have in my pc, the seagate makes the most noise (you cant hear the samsung).
Good points for this drive include the price its pritty cheap for the price and amount of storage you get, being a seagate you get a nice long 5 year guarantee.
Technical specs
- Capacity: 250 GB
- Speed: 7200 rpm
- Interface: SATA-II
- Cache: 16MB
- 5 year manufacturer''s warranty
To conclude this is an excellent hard drive as expected from such a great manufacture...

A super PC online retailer
Review of globaldirect.co.uk by
andycharger
Advantages: Speedy, quick, cheap, reliable
Disadvantages: none
..., they sell it!
What sort of pricing are they?
------------------------------
CHEAP! For example. My Hansol 19 inch monitor is retailing in most shops, even online ones at around £190. I paid £150 for mine.
This applies to all of their products.
Seagate hard drive. 20Gb is around £70 in the shops. Its £45 in their catalogue. Big savings.
How are they so cheap?
----------------------
Easy. They do not have a shop. Just a big warehouse that they store all of their products in. No overheads. No paying of salesmen. Just supplying good quality products to you.
How reliable are they? Brandnames?
----------------------------------
Dont be put off by me talking about Hansol. You probably have not heard of them. They stock all of the big name companies too. You will get quality no matter what and all of the equipment is band new and garaunteed...
