Best 7200.10 hard drive but still not perfect
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB by
neo1983
Advantages: Fast except multithread read, good capacity, stable, 5 years warranty
Disadvantages: Weak at multithread/multiple reads, a little noisy
...I've used a similar model for a long time and I have mixed opinions about 7200.10 hard drives.
The good things of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10
Seagate hdd are the most stables drives in the market, I've used my drive for quite a time and never experienced a single problem.
Large capacity, 320 GB is more than enough (300 Gb real)
Good speed, especially at writing data, but also at reading excepting multiple file copy. Speed is about 75-80 Mb at large files
The access time is about 13-14ms (about the same as other hdd)
Temperature IS OK.
Very stable and reliable
The not so good things:
Multitasking read performance. While on single thread the performance is high, 75 Mb, while increasing the threads, many aplications used the speed drops at about 5-10 Mb
A little noisy especially when many aplications are used
Conclusion. Good hard drive...

Well Worth Buying
Review of Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80 GB by
Stevis2002
Advantages: Well Priced, Good Storage, Fast access
Disadvantages: need to use disc manager software to install alongside another hard drive
...I found that my Maxtor 20GB hard drive was running out of space, so I went hunting for a replacement. The Seagate Barracuda 80GB was the drive I finally bought, and I can honestly say that it is the best value for mo0ney piece of hardware I have ever bought. At £65 from Ebuyer.com they don't come much better. I don't know all of the technical specifications, but I do know that it seems twice as fast as the Maxtor, as well as having four times the storage capacity. When I came to install it, I decided to run it as a second drive, and leave the Maxtor connected and just use it for the operating system and drivers. If you decide to use the Seagate this way, then you will need to download the Disc Manager program off the Seagate website,(www.seagate.com). Although the site is very easy to navigate around, and the program is easy to find...

None Better
Review of Seagate Hard drive 17.2 GB by
ciaobuddy
Advantages: The Best on the Market
Disadvantages: None
...Cheetah. The nicest mid range is the Barracuda which is priced at £34.99 for a 40GB or £38.98 for 80GB. Of course they do get bigger but then so does the price.
If you are in need of a new hard drive I would say without even thinking about it go for a Seagate. It will outlive the life of your computer easily....

Seagate keep up their standards... As usual!
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80 GB by
mattyprice4004
Advantages: Fast, Quick and Very Cheap!
Disadvantages: Can't think of anything at all!
...When building a cheap and cheerful Internet browsing PC for a friend, 80GB of storage seemed easily enough. After some browsing I discovered the Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB, and found that it covers all the important points when buying a hard disk.
An excellent and comprehensive 5 Year warranty was provided as standard, which certainly leads to a lot of peace of mind. Hard disks always seem to be the weakest link within Home PCs, so it is always nice to see a manufacturer putting faith into a non-enterprise level product.
The large 2MB Cache also attracted me to the Seagate, and the low price tag was the final decider for me. A day later I had the Seagate installed in the PC ready for its first boot. The PC in question is a fairly standard box - an AMD Sempron 2800+, 256MB of DDR RAM and a Gigabyte motherboard. The hard disk worked...

Seagate Comes Out Top... Again!
Review of Seagate Momentus 5400.2 ST94813A 40 GB by
mattyprice4004
Advantages: Fast, Quiet and Efficient
Disadvantages: None
...I bought this drive as a temporary solution whilst I saved for a 100GB Seagate Momentus. It cost me a tiny £37.59, but proved to punch well above it's wieght for the money.
Firstly, lets look at the speed of this drive. It easily beats my desktop PCs backup slave drive, a 40GB Hitachi Deskstar. It also thrashed my 80GB Toshiba 2.5" hard disk in my other laptop (!) which cost me £75!
So the drive is up to the performance of even larger dirves, but what about the noise levels? Thankfully, noise is non-existent with the Momentus.
All that is audible is the occasional seek, but nothing much compared to the 80GB Toshiba 2.5" laptop hard disk. You can hear that on idle, and every tiny movement it makes is clearly audible. A real nightmare when you're trying to concentrate on a really important piece of coursework, or trying to enjoy some...

A thumbs up for the barracuda
Review of Seagate Medalist Pro 9140 9.1 GB by
andycharger
Advantages: A good drive and reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Seagate
...Despite my previous negative comments on Seagate products, I must tell you about how good the Barracuda range has turned out to be.
I own this drive.
With its 40GB storage it is not the biggest on the market. But it does not claim to be.
I have found huge disks to be unreliable anyway. No point in have 80gb disk space if a couple of those sectors become corrupt or damaged is there?
at 7200rpm it is one of the fastest. Most are turning the wheel at between 5400-7200rpm so it sits nicely at the quickest spinning disk end.
Data transfer rate is what we are bothered about.
We need quick burst of data when loading a game or other system loading operations.
This blasts across the cables at 100 mbs giving its name ATA 100.
The slower 66 ATA range wont get your stuff up and running as quick as its 33% slower.
As for its buffer, or its temporary...

Another great Seagate Drive
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250 GB by
pdthegreat
Advantages: Price
Disadvantages: Noise
...Seagate have always made great hard drives and this is no excepetion it reads and writes fast.
This drive is one in a new range of seagate drives that use perpendicular recording technology, meaning more space per platter.
There is only one bad point to this drive and that is the noise you can here it read this may not be a problem for some but compared to the samsung hard drive I also have in my pc, the seagate makes the most noise (you cant hear the samsung).
Good points for this drive include the price its pritty cheap for the price and amount of storage you get, being a seagate you get a nice long 5 year guarantee.
Technical specs
- Capacity: 250 GB
- Speed: 7200 rpm
- Interface: SATA-II
- Cache: 16MB
- 5 year manufacturer''s warranty
To conclude this is an excellent hard drive as expected from such a great manufacture...

Very quiet, fast HDD, Perpendicular recording
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB by
zedreview
Advantages: Fast, new Perpendicular Technology, very quiet, fair price
Disadvantages: Not keen on cloning software available from Seagate
...The 7200.10 hard disk drives from Seagate are the first to use new Perpendicular Technology for recording data. This makes them, in theory, faster than other hard disk drives. This is because the drive head has less far to move in order to record/retrieve the same amount of data. I have recently purchased the 320GB ATA100 version and I do notice slightly higher speeds compared to my previous Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB drive.
Official reviews claim that the seek noise is higher with the 7200.10 than 7200.9, and higher than the majority of other leading drives. However, I cannot personally hear it seek at all, even when the drive is very busy. I do have a well insulated case but I am still able to hear the internal fans and another older hard disk I have. The reviews I've seen give very favourable figures for the spinning noise, which...

Cheap but not very stable
Review of Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80 GB by
beanp-271
Advantages: Cheap, fast, big storage amount
Disadvantages: Unreliable so regularly back up your files
...I was looking online for a new hard drive, to replace my old Maxtor one, when i found some very cheap Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80GB drives for sale, and bought 2, for under £20. They were bth fully working, and i fitted them straight away, as altogether it was a storage capacity of 8 times more than my Maxtor hard drive, and the spindle speed was higher as well. I installed Windows XP without any problems at all, onto one of the drives, and used the other as a secondary drive to put my work files on. For a couple of months, i was happy, as I had spotted a bargain and the hard drives were fully workin, until the secondary drive just vanished, and wouldn't boot at all, no power would go to it and I ahd lost all my work files. So i carried on with the one 80GB drive, and installed my 20GB again for extra storage space. And then about...
