Reviews of seagate barracuda 7200
Another great Seagate Drive
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250 GB by
pdthegreat
Advantages: Price
Disadvantages: Noise
...Seagate have always made great hard drives and this is no excepetion it reads and writes fast.
This drive is one in a new range of seagate drives that use perpendicular recording technology, meaning more space per platter.
There is only one bad point to this drive and that is the noise you can here it read this may not be a problem for some but compared to the samsung hard drive I also have in my pc, the seagate makes the most noise (you cant hear the samsung).
Good points for this drive include the price its pritty cheap for the price and amount of storage you get, being a seagate you get a nice long 5 year guarantee.
Technical specs
- Capacity: 250 GB
- Speed: 7200 rpm
- Interface: SATA-II
- Cache: 16MB
- 5 year manufacturer''s warranty
To conclude this is an excellent hard drive as expected from such a great manufacture...

Best 7200.10 hard drive but still not perfect
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB by
neo1983
Advantages: Fast except multithread read, good capacity, stable, 5 years warranty
Disadvantages: Weak at multithread/multiple reads, a little noisy
...I've used a similar model for a long time and I have mixed opinions about 7200.10 hard drives.
The good things of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10
Seagate hdd are the most stables drives in the market, I've used my drive for quite a time and never experienced a single problem.
Large capacity, 320 GB is more than enough (300 Gb real)
Good speed, especially at writing data, but also at reading excepting multiple file copy. Speed is about 75-80 Mb at large files
The access time is about 13-14ms (about the same as other hdd)
Temperature IS OK.
Very stable and reliable
The not so good things:
Multitasking read performance. While on single thread the performance is high, 75 Mb, while increasing the threads, many aplications used the speed drops at about 5-10 Mb
A little noisy especially when many aplications are used
Conclusion. Good hard drive...

Very quiet, fast HDD, Perpendicular recording
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB by
zedreview
Advantages: Fast, new Perpendicular Technology, very quiet, fair price
Disadvantages: Not keen on cloning software available from Seagate
...The 7200.10 hard disk drives from Seagate are the first to use new Perpendicular Technology for recording data. This makes them, in theory, faster than other hard disk drives. This is because the drive head has less far to move in order to record/retrieve the same amount of data. I have recently purchased the 320GB ATA100 version and I do notice slightly higher speeds compared to my previous Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB drive.
Official reviews claim that the seek noise is higher with the 7200.10 than 7200.9, and higher than the majority of other leading drives. However, I cannot personally hear it seek at all, even when the drive is very busy. I do have a well insulated case but I am still able to hear the internal fans and another older hard disk I have. The reviews I've seen give very favourable figures for the spinning noise, which...

Storage Master
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750 GB by
safari004
Advantages: Capacity, Speed
Disadvantages: Price
...i bought this hard drive for my new PC. As I wanted alot of storage space, so, I bought this hard drive. I was in need of such high storage capacity because I do some graphics stuff and also I wanted some space for my movie collection.
This hard drive has a spindle speed of 7200 rpm, which is common to other Seagate Barracuda hard drives. This is the mainly used speed for a hard drive now adays.
This hard drive supports SATA-300 interface. Due to this it can transfer data at a very high speed. It also has a cache buffer of 16 MB, which helps in enhancing its performance. It support Native Command Queuing, which is mainly useful in server systems.
This hard drive boosts excellent seek time and transfer rates. It heats up a bit, so, proper air cooling is necessary. Noise is not a problem with this hard drive.
One thing to notice...

Champion hard drives
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 40 GB by
adehh
Advantages: Fast, completely silent
Disadvantages: None.
...often format my main machine every 3-5 months to keep it running at best speed so the hard drive has certainly had its usage. I mainly use the machine for gaming and surfing the web, on both tasks the hard drive offers me the speed required.
I've also noticed with some hard drives that as they get older they become more and more noisy; this hasn't been the case with the Barracuda. Although I cannot say this is the same for all of the Seagate range, particularly the older models. I owned a Seagate Medallist for some time and this drive become very noisy in its older days.
If you're looking for a quick small capacity hard drive such as this one then go ahead and buy a Seagate Barracuda! If your motherboard supports it though I'd certainly look into the SATA version of this drive and read up on some reviews, there's a good chance...

A thumbs up for the barracuda
Review of Seagate Medalist Pro 9140 9.1 GB by
andycharger
Advantages: A good drive and reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Seagate
...Despite my previous negative comments on Seagate products, I must tell you about how good the Barracuda range has turned out to be.
I own this drive.
With its 40GB storage it is not the biggest on the market. But it does not claim to be.
I have found huge disks to be unreliable anyway. No point in have 80gb disk space if a couple of those sectors become corrupt or damaged is there?
at 7200rpm it is one of the fastest. Most are turning the wheel at between 5400-7200rpm so it sits nicely at the quickest spinning disk end.
Data transfer rate is what we are bothered about.
We need quick burst of data when loading a game or other system loading operations.
This blasts across the cables at 100 mbs giving its name ATA 100.
The slower 66 ATA range wont get your stuff up and running as quick as its 33% slower.
As for its buffer, or its temporary...

Very good, does its job well + 5 year warranty
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB by
AdamHonek
Advantages: Fast, many models available, 5 year warranty, NCQ, 16MB buffer, perpendicular recording
Disadvantages: None as I'm aware
...Very good quiet, fast and reliable hard drive, available in ATA100 and SATA versions with a 8/16MB buffer depending on the model.
Uses perpendicular recording hence packs tight data more closer together which improves transfer rates. The drive managers up to a sustained 68MB/sec or so depending on where the data is stored on the platters. Couple two or more in these in RAID and you have a speedy system. Come with NCQ which also adds some speed to applications which frequently access the HDD for data in an ad-hoc fashion.
Seagate also provides a 5 year warranty whereas the competition doesn't. Seagate support is very good, they replaced one with a snapped SATA connector (physical damage) even though they claim do not replace units with mechanical damage.
Overall you can't go wrong with this drive....

Seagate keep up their standards... As usual!
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80 GB by
mattyprice4004
Advantages: Fast, Quick and Very Cheap!
Disadvantages: Can't think of anything at all!
...When building a cheap and cheerful Internet browsing PC for a friend, 80GB of storage seemed easily enough. After some browsing I discovered the Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB, and found that it covers all the important points when buying a hard disk.
An excellent and comprehensive 5 Year warranty was provided as standard, which certainly leads to a lot of peace of mind. Hard disks always seem to be the weakest link within Home PCs, so it is always nice to see a manufacturer putting faith into a non-enterprise level product.
The large 2MB Cache also attracted me to the Seagate, and the low price tag was the final decider for me. A day later I had the Seagate installed in the PC ready for its first boot. The PC in question is a fairly standard box - an AMD Sempron 2800+, 256MB of DDR RAM and a Gigabyte motherboard. The hard disk worked...

Great Value
Review of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250 GB by
Farrukh
Advantages: Fast, Queit, 5 Year warranty
Disadvantages: None
...I recently bought this drive for a new PC, and it's been the perfect drive. It's very quick i.e. excellent seek time, Good average transfer rate and great burst rate. This drive is very quiet, I hardly hear its sound when it is in operation. It's quite reasonable in price. I think this drive will prove great in raid environment.
The package that I got only contains the hard drive, no addtional SATA interface to motherboard. However my motherboard has that Sata cable and ATX power calbe also support SATA. The default jumper is set to 1.5G/s, you have to pull the jumper out to set on 3.0G/s.Overall it's fast.
I've had good experiences with Seagate in the past, and I trust I will in the future....
