SLEEPLESS & PENNYLESS IN SEATTLE
Advantages: Discovering a really beautiful piece of the U.S.A
Disadvantages: None unless you want sandy beaches and palm trees.
...Sleepless and Pennyless in Seattle !!! and I was both.
Staying in a little paper manufacturing town of Camas, on the edge of the Columbia River Gorge which divides Washington State from Portland, in Oregon, gave me lots of oportunity to explore the surrounding countryside.
Most of all a chance to stay in Seattle and explore this very dramatic area situated on the borders of Canada. A short drive up and you find yourself crossing over into Vancouver in British Colombia, Canada.
I booked a ticket on the retired American Greyhound which goes by the name of Green Tortoise, for obviouse details....anyone who has travelled this way, will know exactly what I mean. Never heard of it? then I will be writing a reviiew about it shortly. The only way I can visualise it for you is to say that it is a bright green Hippy bus for anyone who...

LOCATION
The hotel is located on 6th St at1301 6th Avenue, Seattle, Washington, 98101-2304. It is a great location and quite close to all the main attractions. We did use public transport, but we also walked to a lot of places. We were able to walk to lots of shops, bars and restaurants near the centre. We also walked to the old part of Seattle which was really interesting. The airport is quite a way out...

washington DC
Advantages: Read opp
Disadvantages: none i can think of
...Well now that my reviews for Chicago and Las Vegas have been completed I guess its time to move onto my third stop, don't worry only two more stops after this, in what was an amazing summer. The next leg of my journey took me to the state capital of Washington DC. The roots of American democracy and the political capital of the world. This was actually my last stop before coming back home, however I just felt like writing about this now. I had pre booked my ticket to DC whilst I was in London with American Airlines from Chicago; it set me back about £150, which for a peak time in mid July was not bad what so ever. Having stayed in DC for a week this review will focus more on the sights and places I visited, if I forget to mention the obvious places to see its because I didn't really go their and I therefore don't see the need to mention...

Washington State! A Love Affair.!!!
Advantages: An intereresting STATE to be in.
Disadvantages: It can be cold and wet! When its hot its HOT
...In 1990 I fell in love! corny? not really, I was in love with Washington State, and what a State to be in. Where do I start. In Seattle on the borders of Canada, or by the Columbia River Gorge, on the Borders of Oregon. Yes that is where my affair began. Portland in Oregan. From the Airport in Portland it is just a few minutes drive to Camas in Washington where I stayed with friends for a while.
Camas is a really small town on the river, known for its logging, and Paper Factories. A very pretty little town, high above the river. with views of Portland on the other side, when at night the lights from this large modern town in Oregon twinkle in a dazzling display of stars hovering over the river, their reflection doubling the display as they bounced off the water. If you look south the first thing you notice is Mount Hood...

Seattle & Bellevue, WA
Advantages: Lots to see and do, nice weather, friendly people
Disadvantages: Costs of flights, not "usual" tourist spot!
...Well I was hoping to find some reviews on Bellevue and Seattle, so I thought that I would attempt to write a good one! Well the flight from London Heathrow (direct) is around 8.5 to 9 hours. Its not a bad flight but there is only one service that offers direct flights, the others all offer flights with changes, which is a bit impractical. However, when you get there (Seattle-Tacoma) its quite a way from Seattle, so its quite a journey to the city or to Bellevue (the city next to it!).
The city is surrounded by several lakes, which you will see on your journey to the city. Lake Washington, Lake Union, Lake Sammmamish, the list goes on... It's a beautiful city with lots of greenery and mountains. There are lots of scenic points where you can see the surrounding mountains, including Mount St Helens (the famous volcano). There are...

Sleepless in Seattle
Advantages: Climate is quite similar to England
Disadvantages: Time-difference means big jetlag, and calls home are hard
....g. Metropolitan Bar & Grill - great steak and oysters. Or for spicier tastes, Fusion-asian and pacific rim dishes are prepared in restaurants like Wild Ginger on 3rd & Pike.
However the city is like a ghost town after 10pm - seems that most Americans are tucked up in bed very early at night.
Sports fans are well catered for within the city by the local teams. Seahawks Baseball have a great new stadium (our last company meeting was held in the grounds). Seattle SuperSonics basketball is well cool, though the tickets are quite pricey. My favourite though was the Washington Huskies college football team, unlike Pro-Football with padding and commercial overtones, the college game is more physical and captivating to watch.
Like all of America, getting around is painful if you don't hire a car. Seattle is well connected by interstate highway...

Seattle - great tips for visitors
Advantages: Natural beauty, funky interesting things to see/do
Disadvantages: Hey - sometimes it rains there
..., Puget Sound, Lake Union, Lake Washington, the Montlake Cut (a canal that connects the salt water with the fresh water of the lakes), and more. So get yourself on a little boat excursion. There are lots of them. One of the easiest is to take the ferry from the waterfront in Seattle over to Bainbridge Island. Then when you come back to Seattle you will have the best view of the city that is possible - almost - unless you are on a sailboat or yacht on Lake Union at twilight on a beautiful summer evening. You know the song - "the bluest skies you have ever seen are in Seattle...." Hey - and if you know the captain maybe he will take you by Bill Gates house on Lake Washington.
4. Do something really weird - take a tour of the Boeing plant - this is where they make the planes you fly to Seattle on - unless it is an Airbus - and they...

NOT Sleepless in Seattle
Advantages: Cheap, nice rooms, good location, nice employees
Disadvantages: The elevator smells like a pit latrine
...If you are visiting Seattle, Washington and looking for a cheap stay, give a thought to the Days Inn on Seventh and Blanchard. It could just be a good option. The downtown Days Inn is located just about one mile from the King Dome and the AMTRAK station and just one block off the "free ride zone" of the Seattle MTA.
Checking In ? with some "reservations"
The ground floor of the hotel is primarily taken up with parking, and the small Green House café just past the reception area. Reception is a small area on the ground floor just off the covered drive through entrance. The desk is populated by helpful and friendly employees 24 hours a day. Our 2 AM check in experience was accompanied by a very obvious "working girl" wringing an elevator key out of the desk attendant. Not a good sign! Nor is the elevator to the room which...

HI Washington DC!
Advantages: Great tours, good breakfast, good facilities
Disadvantages: Reception staff were quite rude
...I stayed at this hostel for a few days in mid August. It was my first time ever staying in a hostel as I've always gone with hotels, being unable to see the allure of sleeping in a room with a million other people. Unfortunatley, the sheer amount of places I wanted to visit meant there was no way I could have the money to stay in a hotel or have a room by myself, and so Hostelling International Washington DC was the way forward for me. And you know what? I'm glad I did.
This hostel wasn't the cleanest one in the world, but it did it's job. The outside blends in well with the surroundings and due to all the flags sticking outside is relatively easy to find. The rooms themselves were surprisingly attractive to me. My room was quite large (despite having chosen the option to have thhe most people in the room, it was still very spacious...

Skiing in Seattle...
Advantages: Skiing nearby, The Spaceneedle, fab fish
Disadvantages: Always rains!
.....Well not actually in Seattle, but there are some great resorts nearby. Stevens pass, Snowqualmie and Crystal Mountain are all great places to do some cheap skiing and kill a bit of time should you find yourself sleepless. Skis can be hired for the day and daily lift passed purchased for about 40 GBP, and if you go mid-week you'll find the slopes virtually empty and no queues for chairlifts (yippee!) - watch out for the fact they have no bars though.
The city of Seattle itself is great though. I would advise anyone to take a trip up the space needle for fab panoramic views (you'll need a drink in the bar if it's a bit windy though). The aquarium is fairly good - try to catch otter feeding time. There are also a few good museums including the museum of flight, the Old Curiosity Shop and the new music museum which hadn't opened the last...
