SEE NAPLES AND DIE...almost
Advantages: Convenient for Pompeii
Disadvantages: AC? What AC? Room was like an oven.
...We were planning to visit Pompeii but finding a decent hotel close by was as easy as excavating these ancient ruins with a teaspoon. So Naples it was.
The Holiday Inn looked perfect for our needs - on the edge of the city towards Pompei and easy access from the autostrade. When I say easy access, I mean 'in theory'...on a map...in my wildest dreams etc. The Holiday Inn is situated in a modern development of high-rise offices and commercial properties called Centro Direzionale directly connected to a link road from the A1 autostrade. But, this being Naples, where stock car racing is not only the principal hobby, it's downright de rigeur, it proved a little more tricky than directed from the hotel's web page. Driving to the hotel being only slightly less dangerous than facing a pride of half-starved lions in the amphitheatre, we...

See Naples And Don't Die
Advantages: lively, wonderful artefacts
Disadvantages: chaotic, dirty
.... Taxi then? Only if you´re fluent in Italian and know the city well so that you can notice if you´re taken the direct way or if your transfer includes a sight-seeing tour of the whole city. Hire a car? From the Lonely Planet Guide: ´Forget driving in town unless you have a death wish.´ So it would be mainly walkie, walkie.
I left my luggage in the station (3 Euro for 12 hours, when you reclaim your luggage you pay the rest) and only took my night things in a rucksack with me and went by underground to Montesanto station as advised. After getting to the surface I found myself in the middle of a street market; whatever you think of street life in Naples is right, rows of stalls with clothes, shoes, music cassettes, fruit and vegetables, fish and octopus, you name it, they sold it and hundreds of people bustling and shouting.
Has the way...

See Naples,and die.
Advantages: Mostly helpful,friendly.(many see op.)
Disadvantages: Can be expensive. Traffic,crime,pollution.
...food,yet also,filth,volcano,earthquakes,crime pollution,drugs and Maffia;you have the lot here.
weather wise,scenery,interests,sights,beaches,and warm skies are as intense and as intoxicating as you'll ever get-hence the old saying;
See Naples,and die!
Firstly, the sights and sounds, the smells and colours-a heady mixture of cosmopolitan cultures, and contrasting language and dialects sit side by side.
There are lots and lots of "Festa's" and street parties,Demo's etc etc that always pound the eardrums so you might aswell join 'em; you'll be made most welcome! And it's no good complaining..as you hang insane from your hotel balcony. You'll never beat them, like Rio,it'll carry on for most of the night.
I have never seen so many people throng the streets.
The noise and chaos can wear you out,and our oldest son was born at the end...

See Naples.....
Advantages: Sharp, superb writing
Disadvantages: So much tragedy in war
...to push on to Naples. All the while, Italian soldiers were limping home along the roads and railway lines to the south, Americans were setting up makeshift offices and hospital tents along the coast and German bombers were worrying the invading forces and their massive convoy of ships.
This book, ?Naples ?44? is Norman Lewis?s diary of his time in and around Naples from September 1943 to October 1944. He was part of a kind of police-force come liaison group and his job was counter intelligence. He found himself trying to put a stop to black marketeering and generally ducking, diving and negotiating with everyone around him in order to further the allied cause and impose stability on the region. As if Naples were not already exotic enough, the madness that accompanies war, and especially the period in which one regime is falling...

La Quinta Inn, Naples, FL: Bang for your Buck!
Advantages: Staff, cleanliness, close proximity of Naples Pier and food
Disadvantages: No water view from room we were in
...minute drive. We will never stay anywhere else in Naples.
Extremely family friendly with a pool surrounded by a wall to give guests the privacy not normally afforded. The pool area was pleasant to swim or sit and read a book under an umbrella. The breakfast is the normal (juice, waffles, cereals, etc.) but it definitely turns into a cafe type experience when after a couple days you start to see the same people and converse over breakfast....

Pompeii to Naples..an archaeologist's playground!
Advantages: Better than time travel!
Disadvantages: If there were any...I've forgotten them!
...some beautifully illustrated books on the market. It really does make a difference when you understand what you are looking at.
If you see nothing else at Pompeii visit the Ampitheatre, the theatres, the forum, Via dell' Abbondanza, via delle Tombe and the bath houses and the brothel!! Pompeii really is one of the greatest archaological sites on the planet, all in the shadow of the volcano, making a beautiful landscape.
The casts of the bodies of actual civilains that died in AD79 are also eerrily preserved where they fell!
For anyone that wants all the essence of Pompeii but at a smaller site and less time consuming visit Herculaneum, just a stop down on the train. Herculaneum was detroyed primarily by a land slide when Pompeii was destroyed and is beautiful and often quieter than Pompeii. It has a charm all of its own, many...

Die Hard 4.0 - THE BLU RAY EXPERIENCE - MUST SEE
Advantages: Fast paced action with great cast and special effects.
Disadvantages: Timothy Olyphant is not the typical bad guy like previous Die Hards.
...Bruce Willis is back for the 4th part of the Die Hard series, and he has come back in style. He still epitomises all that made the first three films great, and infact goes further to make his character even more appealing.
Die Hard has gone into the future, with Blue Ray that is. I had been waiting for years after Die Hard with Avengance to see Bruce Willis take up the role of John McClane in Live Free or die hard (DH4) and to see it in Blu Ray made it extra special. The explosions, graphics and visual effects were unbelievable. The Blu Ray experience was made specifically for Die Hard in my belief.
The plot of this Die Hard is quite different to the former installments. The film begins showing computer hackers providing sensitive material and information to an operative of a terrorist group. The hackers are tricked into giving...

Dying out
Advantages: Suspenseful, compelling
Disadvantages: Some bad performances
...Robert Wagner. An incredibly young Robert Wagner, who looks nothing like his older, heavy-set self. This isn't a completely perfect performance by any means; there are times when his words sound wooden and it is a miracle that Dory doesn't work out that he is a major creep. However, he does have a certain amount of charm and he is very good to look at, so he just about manages to get away with it. By the last half of the film when his true colours are shown, it is fairly easy to believe that he is a lying, cheating, selfish womaniser.
Joanne Woodward plays Dory and gives the performance of a very fragile, needy woman who just wants to get married and having children. She is a University student, but still sees no need to have a career. A modern audience will find this annoying - I know I did - her apparent naivety when her lover is around...

Die Hard
Advantages: Brucieeee! :-D
Disadvantages: Some acting isnt wonderful...
...Love this film :-p
And not only because its got a VERY sexy Bruce Willis running around!!!! The film has been on TV alot recently, possibly promoting the new Die Hard 4.0 film, and I was (forced!!) to watch it with my husband, I didn't want to...its not my kind of film, but when we watched it, I found it amazing!!!
Yes some of the acting of the foreign men (Karl), isn't wonderful, but other than that, the film is amazing! The story line is gripping, the characters are played wonderfully by the actors, and theres the right amount of comic factors in there to make it light hearted whilst still been a good action film!
The basic storyline is that of a police agent who goes to see his wife and kids who he lives apart from in new york for christmas, but when he is at the office block she works in, all hell breaks loose and a huge...

The Business Of Dying
Advantages: Gripping plot, fast paced story, great characters
Disadvantages: Can't think of any!
...I love reading but for some reason I don?t seem to have the time to read as much as I would like to so my recent holiday meant that I got some time to loose myself in a good book ? The Business Of Dying
The Business of Dying is Simon Kernick?s first book.
About The Author
Simon Kernick was born 1966 in the town of Slough. After leaving school in the mid 1980s, he worked in a variety of jobs including bring a labourer on a road-building gang (until an industrial accident cut short a promising career); stockroom assistant for a major IT company and a fruit picker,
He also spent several years living and travelling in Canada and the USA before returning to England via Australia and the Far East to complete his studies.
Simon Kernick currently lives in Oxfordshire with his wife and two young daughters and is just about to start...
