Sega Mega-Drive II

Advantages: Pretty console, good games
Disadvantages: Highly priced games, couldn't handle 3D, very few games with save feature

...The Mega-Drive marked the beginning of the end of my social life. I got this, my first ever games console for Christmas in 1994 (is it really that long ago?) and whilst by today's standards its technologically ancient, it delivered a huge amount of simple fun. It must be said, the Mega-Drive II (same as the Mega-Drive, but smaller) is still one of the best looking consoles ever divised. A slick black colour, it was a nice size and everything you needed was right infront of you - power and reset buttons and a slot for the game cartridges. Simple and very accessible from the off. It was a 16-bit console, and because of the comparitive lack of power compared with today's 128-bit behemoth's, couldn't handle any 3D games. GAME: Greatest Old Console... The Sega Megadrive

Advantages: It's retro and still a great console
Disadvantages: The games don't last too long

...or Road Rage. Some of the games are addictive and can be played over and over again however many of them can be completed in a couple of hours and you will probably never play them again. Most of the games are simple and take a couple of minutes to get into with the exception of a few. There are also a few games that allow you to have four player action the most popular are the old Fifa games and Micro Machines. They are extremely fun and you can spend hours sat in front of the TV with a few friends going head to head to see who is still the greatest at Micro Machines. The Extras You can get a few extra bits and pieces for the Mega drive such as the Menacer Gun and a Master System Converter. However for the Megadrive mark II you can get the Mega CD which allows you to play some of the sega CD games which in my opinion takes you away...

Re-live Classic Sega Titles In Your Hand

...Blaze have came out which I think is one of the greatest hand held consoles on the market today. I would recommend this to any sega fan, or in fact any games fan. This is a portable version of one of the greatest games consoles ever made. It is a hand held mega-drive (genesis in U.S.A) and an excellent console. It fits neatly in your hand and it has the same sort of design as the origional megadrive controller. On the right hand side you can find the three main buttons. On the other you can find the joystick. In the middle you can find the screen. The game is playable from directly out of the box. When you turn it on you can find the menu which I found very easy to navigate through. The best selling point for this console is that it has 20 games preloaded. The Sawn-Off Black Box - MegaDrive 2

Advantages: Great looking, didn't crash as much as its predecessor, great games and nice controllers.
Disadvantages: Lots of the games are hard to acquire nowadays. Just you try and find Ecco.

...In the good old gaming days it didn't take smooth, rendered environments to sell a game. There was no such thing as Motion Capture or Pixel-End Smoothing. No. In the days of the trusty Megadrive, it was gameplay that ruled. And the gameplay on some of those Mega Drive games ruled the most. The Megadrive 2 was simply an update on the original Megadrive (or Genesis in the US). It was smaller and looked better, and fitted with the ill-fated MegaCD very nicely. I can't put a date on it's release, suffice to say it was after Sonic 2 and before Sonic 3 (don't quote me on that). Personally I owned both the first and the second Megadrives. Shinco 868 DVD Player with built in Megadrive

Advantages: The total package with the all-region DVD player, mp3 player and best of all Megadrive CD system.
Disadvantages: 2 joypads that come with the machine are a bit clunky compared to original Megadrive joypads.

...This is a superb all-round system for anyone who is after a decent all-region DVD player, the difference with this one is that it also plays mp3 cds, video/supervideo cds and best of all it plays Megadrive games. It comes with approximately 428 licenced games (which means its completely legal) on 9 cds and comes packaged in a nice metal box also. ...This review is not intended to try and persuade or dissuade anyone into buying a Sega Megadrive, so I suppose by default it shouldn't be written. Buy one for £30, sell it for £300!

Advantages: Excellent gameplay, cheap, durable, great for kids
Disadvantages: do you want to use it when its becoming colectable?

...The Sega Mega-Drive is a superb console machine of the past. Utitlising all Sega's knowledge of the arcade market, the games were invariably fast, furious and addictive. Indeed, is there anyone in the UK, sorry, the WORLD who hasn't heard of Sonic the Hedgehog? I have to admit, the reason I write this review is that boyfriend bought one for our 8 year old and she loves it. Despite arguing with him that it was too old and outdated for her to like it, I have to concede that she's never off it, often preferring it to the XBox (fortunately for us!). So what is the thing about the Mega-Drive which enchants kids so much? I thought about this for a while and then realised. The games are so simple to play. It's as simple as that. ...The Genisis Emulator (casually known as Gens) emulates any Genisis games there are, that is, if you want to play that many in the first place. But what is the Genisis? The Megadrive, origionally known as "The Genesis" first came out in 1995 (or there abouts), with Sonic the Hedghog, SEGA's answer to Ninty's (Nintendo's) Mario, and was a surprising sleeper hit (or so they say). Built like a brick

Advantages: Hard to break
Disadvantages: Graphics could be better

...You just can`t beat the old Sega Megadrive, I know it`s not state of the art in gaming and graphics, but it`s proved a firm favourite of my 7yr old son and all his mates. My son can demolish anything, shove him in an empty room and he`ll still find something to break. The Megadrive however seems to be indestructable. All the parts are just more solidly built than all other gaming platforms. Take the playstation for example, we gave in and bought him a ps1, now I have to watch it every second it`s out because my toddler has made it her mission to try and snap the flip up lid off. If I hadn`t been watching her it would`ve been history by now. Our Megadrive has been thrown across the bedroom so many times during temper tantrums, and no, not by me, but it has still never had one little chip, crack or fault. The games are much the same...

...When the Sega megadrive first came out my three children clubbed together their pocket money and bought one to play on, that was quite a while ago and when I last went to my daughters to see my grandson his dad had found one in his attic and had given it him to play on. My grandson who is only four absolutely loves it, he plays the Sonic games and the Street Racer game. The only thing is that the machine is dated and the wires are worn so having to mess around with the wires to get it tuned in is sometimes a bit of a hassle.
