...First the Sega Saturn and now the Sega Dreamcast as Sega announced a couple of months a go to stop producing games for the Sega Dreamcast. This seems similar to what happened to the Sega Saturn as it just died out due to compettion from other consoles. The sad thing was that the Sega Dreamcast had the capabillity to produce good graphics and play good games but the games were never there and the choice of good games was certainly very limited. I think people who rushed out and bought the console when it first came out must be disapointed now after spending so much on a console the games are not there to be used. Some may say that the Sega Dreamcast had internet and that no other console did but again it wasn't that good and with it being so much cheaper and easier ways to use it. So there just isn't the demand for the internet... Read review

Advantages: a good game
Disadvantages:

...Sega Rally 2 is the sequel to one of the sega Saturn’s best games: sega rally. Although a great improvement over the original sega classic it isn’t an amazingly good game, just a quite good game. If you really like racing games though (As I do) then you cant really go very wrong with this game. It has a huge variety of tracks and many modes including a 10 year championship mode. This game is really worth looking into if you enjoy playing racing games and / or you liked the original sega rally.... Read review

Advantages: Good graphics and still plenty of games available
Disadvantages: Will be hard to get hold of in a year or two

...The Sega Saturn was a game machine that was Sega's replacement for the doomed Megadrive with CD add on. While it was around, and it still is in a lot of homes, it did have some ground breaking games developed for it, like Panzer Dragoon and Sega Rally, and these type of graphics had not been seen before on any console. Unfortunately, the console suffered a quick demise with the likes of Nintendo and Sony having a quick look at its insides and then produce better machines within a few months, and Sega should have learned by now to sit back and wait for others to move first before releasing a sub-power console onto the market. However, if you buy one second hand, you can still get a good variety of games, and the second hand consoles are incredibly cheap compared to its rivals. Recommended for about 7 yrs and upwards.... ...The Sega Saturn was an amazing console but the public helped by Sega in many respects treated it poorly, with very little support and a very few good games, it seems the Saturn was destined for the cupboard and was never to be seen at highstreet stores again. But it had some great games - some better than the Playstation - like Nights - an original game, Sega Rally, and all the Virtua games. It seems some of these games have been updated on the Dreamcast - sega rally 2 and Virtua fighter 3 etc..But if you still want this console then you can buy it from me with 12 great games, a steering wheel, light gun and 2 pads. Advantages: Great Console, Play Online, Excellent Games
Disadvantages: Sega's unclear future.

...***Updated Opinion*** Today (24/01/2001) is indeed a very sad day. Today there were reports from Sega themselves that they would cease production of the Dreamcast console in March of this year. As a result Sega would become a 'software only' company. Sega who made profit losses for the forth year in a row have been losing almost £60 on every Dreamcast sold. This is due to the launch of the Playstation 2 console, which forced Sega to reduce prices of its console. Segas share prices leapt up 16% when it was announced that they were already working on games for the PS2, Game Boy Advance & X-Box console. Sega did however promise that they would continue to support the Dreamcast console and will not being canning any games that are already due to be released. Its a shame that the games industry has come to such a low point... Read review

Advantages: Dreamcast is fantastic, but Segas games are its major strengths. The games make the console
Disadvantages: Dreamcast is as good as finished due to poor sales.

...The Dreamcast is a quality piece of hardware. The console looks great, has a great amount of games, 4 joypad ports and of course online capabilities. I would recommend it to anyone. After all with Sega's wide range of quality games being produced not just on Dreamcast but in the arcades as well (which eventually end up on Dreamcast), surely these sort of games would want to be played by everyone? Of course they would. If you appreciate high quality games you will love the Dreamcast. Lets look at some of the great games available: Resident Evil, Sonic, Shenmue, Crazy taxi, Jet Set Radio, Quake, MSR, Phantasy Star and the list can go on an on. There are still some more great games still to be released for the Dreamcast on top of all this, like Sonic 2, Black and White. Advantages: Nice console, 128-bit
Disadvantages: Not enough support at launch

...The dreamcast is a really good console, however, there were many flaws qith its launch. Firstly, Sega were the firast to bring out a 128 bit console, and therefore, people weere firstly wary of the new hardware, and secondly, of the reputation SEGA got for its Saturn Console. There were not enough games at launch, so similarly to the N64, the reality did not live up to the hype. The console was also far too expensive as well, and this certainly did not help matters. The Dreamcast now has a very good, wide selection of games, and my mat ehas just picked one up second hand with 10 games for £100, which is a real bargain. There are now plenty of good titles in the pipeline, and unfortunately, SEGA have chosen to leave thehardware market, in favour of third party software developing, seeing some SEGA classics being moved onto Nintendo... ...dreamcast is an ace console with it's 128 bit and able to get on the internet.i like the console because it has very good graphics and it is easy to get on the internet and plus sega has made other terrific consoles such as megadrive and sega saturn. I have played on quite a few games on this console even that i do not have one and the games are brill such as sonic adventure, vigilante 8 2nd offence,house of the dead and many more it is good because of the graphics and internet access. there is nothing really bad about it. i think any computer console person would love this and be on it for a while.... Advantages: good in its time
Disadvantages: quite big

...The Sega Gamegear came out a long time ago and it could actully produce colour graphics and it took cartridge games just like the game boy did. It was quite big in size and like any other console took it consumed batteries very quickly. It was quite expensive in its time as there were no other consoles available at that time that were like it. There was a wide range of games available for it and you can get hold of the Sega Game Gear for about 10 quid or so. its a very good deal but there are not that many places still selling them.... Advantages: Cheap, Better controls than playstation.
Disadvantages: Out of date, smaller catalogue of games.

...The Sega Saturn was a great console and although the N64 and Playstation trampled all over it I thought in many ways it was as good as the Playstation. The Playstation was more successful because it was easier to produce games for. But where games have been released on both systems, games such as Resident Evil and Fifa 98, RTWC. I found that the control style and graphics were much better on the Saturn. The machine was destined to "die" after the amazing success of the Playstation, but I have picked games like Sega Rally up for £3, and I believe this is one of the best racing games of all time. The Sonic games were also good, well Sonic R. Basically, if you want value for money and don't mind having your choice of game restricted slightly, then a Sega Saturn is a definate YES....
