...Selfridges Selfridges is definitely once of the best and trendiest stores in Manchester. It opened following the success of the Trafford Centre in Manchester and the city centre store has quickly become a favourite amongst shoppers in the heart of the city. Location? Following the bomb in Manchester in 1996, a brand new marks and Spencer store was opened to much acclaim but following a downturn in M&S trade they sold half of the store which is now the new Selfridges store! when I die, heaven will be like Selfridges

Advantages: everything you want (and can't afford) under one roof
Disadvantages: never enough time or money to enjoy it properly

...I moved to London two years ago and, like many, had visions of shopping in Harrods and lunching in Covent Garden and going to see a musical or a film in Leicester Square. Of course once you move there, you don't do any of those things because it's too expensive and totally uncool. However, if you're anything like me, you do spend about 40% of your life in Selfridges. Even if you don't actually BUY anything (except magazines - at least you get the bag then...) The shop itself is on Oxford Street, right in the centre of the city, the nearest tube station is Bond Street (how apt, right next to my college building...) or Marble Arch. You can't miss Selfridges itself. To quote someone I once knew "it's the huge-ass expensive looking shop which says 'selfridges and co' on the door". Miss Selfridge-The facts

Advantages: large range of products, casual and 'going out' type
Disadvantages: 'Small' sizing guide

...skin tight size 6 trousers. Miss Selfridge actually caters for sizes 6-16, more than many high street retailers, does a petite range and also longer lengths for taller girlies. My advice to you? Take a good look, if you see some 'tarty' dresses in the window, look further and you'll find perfectly respectable long dresses and high neck tops. Also, if you can't find-ASK. That's what the assistants are paid for, and they can telephone other branches to check for availability. (Most also have large stock rooms!) Try taking a trip to some of the bigger towns, they're much more likely to do petite and larger sizes. My final point is that the most useful thing to do is tell these companies so they can ALL have a new size chart for this century, where curvy girls are most definitely here to stay....

...Personally, i love Miss Selfridge, and i think its great and all, but i heard from someone that it is closing down soon. I think the clothes are great and they have varied styles, but sometimes the seams come off, and the colours turn. For example i put my favourite hipsters into the washing machine, they were £30 (expensive) and they turned greyish whitish. I wanted to complain, but you cant with Miss Selfridge. The clothes styles are good, but they charge us a lot for clothes that we can easily buy in a market for about 2 times cheaper. The rumour tells us that they have gone down in profit, and some stores in London have closed because of this reason. So get your clothes quickly before it shuts!!...

Luxury shopping

...I don?t live very far away from the Bull Ring in Birmingham. And I was delighted when they bull dosed the old 60's bull ring shopping centre and built a brand new bull ring shopping centre for the west midlands. One of the main reasons why I go to the Bull Ring to do shopping is that there is a Selfridges Department store here. The Building ------------------ The Selfridges store building was the hot topic for discussion in the west midlands. There was a lot of controversy over the design of the building as the old church is right next to it. So you have this huge metal, modern bubbly building and then an old frail church right next to it. The design of the building has been fantastically designed. It's a piece of art in its own right. It?s a massive tall building on the end of the actual new Bull Ring shopping centre...

A mini Harrods only better

Advantages: Good for present buying. Lots of designer labels.

...When I first visited Selfridges it was the Manchester Branch, not the London one. My first reaction was that it's probably exactly like Harrods; all overpriced useless glitzy junk, or as my friend refers to stores like these: Commerical Crap. Although I found Selfridges to be a slightly less expensive store than Harrods (Note: I'm saying "slightly"), there is no way I would dream of making this my weekly shopping haven. So where is this manchester branch I hear you ask? Well, it's located within Trafford centre and is about a 15 minute drive from Manchester Airport or a half hour bus ride from Manchester city centre. Selfridges is centrally located with the trafford centre and is 2 floors of clothes (mostly designer labels), acessories, jewellry, food, electrical equipment, travel equipment, various cafes and probably more but...

Miss Selfridge Nail Varnish

Advantages: Good colour, application, needed only one coat
Disadvantages: Fiddly to apply, small bottles

...After buying a Miss Selfridge nail varnish ('Grumpy') in their sale recently I was surprised at how good it was. It needed only one coat, so far hasn't stained my nails, didn't chip easily, dried quickly and with a good, strong colour. The only disadvantage is the small, fiddly bottles and brushes that come with it. They have a good range of colours in store, though are a little expensive for the size of the bottle (small compared to most) and the more interesting colours can often be found in the sale bin......
