Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Advantages: great concept
Disadvantages: actually quite dull

...Was it just me, or did anyone else think that, whilst the Blair Witch Project itself kinda sucked, the movie ideas behind it were truly amazing? I wasn't scared at all by the film - in fact I was barely intrigued by it, but the whole concept of it really interested me (perhaps because I studied media for 4 years I've become a bit of an elitist art critic). The whole concept - that the actors were improvising because they didn't really know what was happening, especially, and the fact that the actors were filming it themselves - really appealed to me. However, when I saw the film I was kinda dismayed by it. What could have been a truly original film was a plundering, directionless ghost story. If the creators had put a bit more thought into the film they could have had a masterpiece. As it stands, it's just another ghost story....

...Hype. Hype. Hype. (notice a common theme so far?!) The reason this film was so big in America was because everybody believed the myth, the legend (the cr*p) that was published before the film was released. I think the reason that a lot of people in Britain have crushed the film so badly is because the myths etc were realised not to be true, and so the film lost its purpose and hence got slated! Let's imagine that we are in America... "So, this film is about a small group of people going into some woods, which are notoriously haunted, and everything that has been said about this film is true, and the film footage is not in anyway fake, the whole experience of watching this film will be totally true. The myths and the legend of the Blair witch are believable, and I believe them, mainly because I am an American and I am very gullible...

...After the unbelievably lame first attempt at the Blair Witch legend I was surprised the effort and money was wasted on another one. Purely because the sequel looked to be something like Scream I ended up watching this teen drollery a few days ago with my partner(blame it all on him!) I'm not going to blab out the whole plot line here for the simple fact that there isn't one, but the outline of Blair Witch: Book of Shadows starts with yet another trip into that not so scary forest. The group is a mix 'n' match of excitable youths armed with camcorders and beer, the perfect goul hunting equipment! A night is spent in the wood where the Blair Witch herself is supposedly still roaming, after'witch' scary stuff ensues. Advantages: Great new concept to filmaking.
Disadvantages: Could of been scarier.

...The Blair Witch Project is a wonderfully fresh approach to the art of movie making. It may not be the scariest film ever made but it sure does make you jump. The key to scaring an audience is the build up of tension, and the psychological aspect of the whole movie. Being alone in a supposedly haunted wood at night with wierd stuff happening to you every night must be everyones nightmare. I certainly wouldnt like it. Full credit goes to the directors of this brilliantly unique picture. I love to praise fresh new ideas in this somewhat failing genre....

The Blair Hype Project

Advantages: The film builds up the tension very well
Disadvantages: Heather Donahue's voice can be a bit annoying at times

...Has any film received more hype than "The Blair Witch Project"? Probably not and this means it's dangerously close to being a victim of its own success. After all, if you know the plot and the ending it just spoils the atmosphere being built up so cleverly within the film. Luckily, I managed to avoid most of the publicity before watching it (a difficult task in itself!). Without giving too much away the plot centres around 3 students who make a documentary on the myth of the Blair Witch. It has to be said that the 3 students are video freaks. Absolutely everything is video'd. Even when they are scared witless they video..........hell, if it was me I don't think my first reaction would be to video myself! ...This must be the biggest disappointment in recent cinema history. The Blair witch project centres around a group of students who go to investigate the legend of the Blair witch. Not once through the entire film did you actually see the witch, there was no blood, no gore, NOTHING! It was all done with suggestion, which may have worked thirty years ago but not with todays cinema goers, who are not as naive as perhaps they once were. Neither could I empathize with any of the characters throughout the movie, I could only say they all get what they deserve, it's hard to concieve that a group of students could be so stupid! ...Before I write my opinion I would like to emphasise my congratulations to the Director and promoter of the Blair Witch Project, as they took a crap film and by advertising made it seem like one of the best ever. This film was definitely the main talk for a long time. Everyone loved until they watched it, then they hated it! The best way I found to describe this film is a long build up of tension resulting in little or no ending to speak of. I must admit when watching this film I felt a strange feeling that it is just about to get interesting but like when you are watching a cool movie and the electricity goes off, the good bit never arrives!!! If anyone has not seen this film then they are lucky and should keep their reputation by not putting themself in for a hour and something of total boredom!...
