Gavin & Stacey - Series 1

Advantages: A strong British sitcom
Disadvantages: Still has it's odd critic

...Name a decent British sitcom from the last 5 years....now name one that isn't written by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant....or David Mitchell and Robert Webb...all you're left with (in my opinion) is a little known sitcom written by Ruth Jones and James Corden that has escalated from a bit-part in the schedule of BBC Three to one of the most loved comedies of recent years - Gavin & Stacey. The story goes of two people who have never met, Gavin (Matthew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page), but eventually decide to do so after months of chatting to one another over the phone. Upon meeting in the middle of Leicester Square along with their best mates, Smithy (played by Corden) and Nessa (Jones), they hit it off and decide it was one of the best decisions they ever made. Advantages: VERY FUNNY
Disadvantages: NOTHING

...Red Dwarf series 1. This wonderfully funny and fantastically written show ran for eight series and almost had a film made, sadly not to be. Starring; Craig Charles - Dave Lister Arnold J Rimmer - Chris Barrie Cat - Danny John-Jules Kryten - Robert Llewellyn Holy was played by two people, Norman Lovett and later Hattie Hayridge. Although Norman did return later in the series. Kristine Kochanski was also played by two people Clare Grogan and then later by Chloë Annett. Kryten was initially played by David Ross but thankfully he did not stay in the role. Extras - Series 1

Advantages: Another cracking comedy from Gervais & Merchant
Disadvantages: Some people see it as "lesser" compared to the Office

...Right, first of all I get it out of the way......the Office was the sitcom that was critically-acclaimed, and seen by many, myself included, as better than Extras, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's follow-up sitcom. But don't think it's any less of a programme...far from it. It was first aired on July 21, 2005 on BBC Two, with six episodes made in the first series, based around two people trying to make a living as extras in films, despite the insignificance of their parts. So, the thing that made Extras somewhat different from numerous sitcoms was the guest stars. Ben Stiller, Ross Kemp, Vinnie Jones, Kate Winslet, Les Dennis, Samuel L. Advantages: Genius comedy
Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!

...-worthy, pompous and embarrassing...and a down-right idiot of a boss. Other characters include Tim (Martin Freeman) - a man stuck in a dead-end job, bored of life at Wernham Hogg, and who seems like one of the only sane people in the company. Gareth (Mackenzie Crook) the "Assistant to the Regional Manager" who is the only man who seems to be on Brent's wavelength...somehow. Dawn (Lucy Davis) - the receptionist, who like Tim, seems stuck in a dead-end job, with nowhere to go but be further annoyed by Brent! The first series includes six episodes, that to some extent do follow after on another, although it's not essential, say if you started watching half way through the series, as you'd still be able to fully understand. Advantages: Awesome episodes - a classic t.v. sitcom produced to be as the original was
Disadvantages: not sharper image, no extras

The basic plot appart from setting up and introducing characters is that the guys are living in their accomodation they have done for some time when one day they recieve a letter from the council informing them that their house is to be demolished. Advantages: brilliant comedy acting and hilarious slapstick.

...Red Dwarf is a science fiction sitcom created by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor. This DVD showcases the first season, consisting of six episodes first shown in 1988. The whole series revolves around Dave Lister who, after being in suspended animation for three million years, is the last human being alive. He is accompanied by Arnold Rimmer, a hologram and also Lister's friend and bunkmate who was brought back to keep him sane, Holly, the ship's computer who is a few silicon chips short of being actually useful and the cat, who is quite literally a cat, evolving from Lister's pet. NORTH AND SOUTH SERIES/BOOK 1

...I watched this when it was first on TV but since then have bought the books all three series. I have watched this book in full now and I can honestly say I have enjoyed every minute of it as I did the first time I saw it. The story is based around the North and the South and two friends who meet at West Point (army). Orry Main - Patrick Swayze and George Hazzard (James Read.)
