TOP 25 maps (maps where the code ends in "T") are for places of 'intéresse aux touristes'. They are real walkers' maps with a wide variety of useful information on paths and tracks such as, long distance GR (Grande Randonnée) routes, interesting unsignposted ways along footpaths, cross-country or high mountain skiing routes, hard parts of a hiking trail, restricted zones, huts and mountain refuges. Terrain information is clearly depicted such as lakes, swamps, marsh, tree-lined streams, cascades, damns, navigable canals, different sorts of woodland, brush and unusual features such as mines and caves. Other useful information for the visitor includes campsites, riding centres, climbing and hang-gliding sites, recreation areas, golf and tennis facilities, canoe and kayaking locations. Also shown are National Park boundaries, cities and towns of particular interest, notable monuments and maybe most importantly TIC (tourist information centres). The map legend is in French and English and each TOP 25 map covers an area of approximately 28 x 21 km (17 x 13 miles) with contour intervals at 5 metres, except in mountainous areas where the maps have hill shading and contours are every 10 metres. ...I have been to Serre Chevalier, more specifically Chantemerle 1350, 3 times now.
Serre Chevalier is in the southern alps on the border with Italy and has always supplied good snow and sunshine when I have been. It is split into 3 different stations with Chantemerle being, in my opinion, the best as it is a picturesque little village at the base of the Luc Alphand black run. I have never used...

Ups and Downs of Serre Chevalier
Advantages: brilliant skiing, alpine village prettiness,great English speaking ski school, Close to Italy and other resorts.
Disadvantages: Not to great for veggies and nightlife fairly low key.
...So far i have only skied 4 times, in Flaine (France), Serre Chevalier (France.....obviously!!), Borovets (Bulgaria) and Bad Hofgetein (Austria).
Serre Chevalier has been the most enjoyable for the following reasons:
Many of France's ski resorts are high altidude and therefore purpose built, usually with concrete grey buildings and not much else. Serre Chevalier is a pretty alpine style village...

End of season skiing at Chantemerle
Advantages: good variety of runs for all abilities, good value for money, good range of nearby facilities
Disadvantages: reduced amount of snow!, didn't seem to be much nightlife when I went?!
...I have been skiing at Serre Chevalier twice, both times staying in Chantemerle. Both times I have been have also been towards the end of the season, in the first couple of weeks of april.
