...Detective Lieutenant William Somerset is just six days off retiring when he becomes involved in the hunt for a serial killer. Aided by Detective David Mills, it soon becomes clear that the murders, although initially random, do have something in common - each of them is the representation of one of the seven deadly sins. Gluttony, for example, is represented by a man so overweight that he was unable to escape from his tormentor. Slowly, the two detectives begin to piece the evidence together, and Mills almost catches the serial killer, nick-named John Doe, at one point, only to narrowly escape with his life. Will they finally catch up with John Doe? Or is he destined to always be one step ahead? Advantages: Emotional and fantastic film with a brilliant performance from Will Smith
Disadvantages: Made me cry like a baby, but sometimes that's a good thing

Seven Film Review

Advantages: Atmosphre
Disadvantages: Brad Pitt

...Whereas I did enjoy watching Seven, I don't feel the need to brag about it like most people do. You can appreciate the amount of effort that has gone into making the film (particularly with Andrew Kevin Walker's writing), but then you analyse other things -- such things as Pitt's performance -- and wonder why people tend to rate it so highly. The story is concerned with veteran detective Somerset (Morgan Freeman) and cocky, young partner Mills (Brad Pitt), and their investigations into a series of murders based on the seven deadly sins. The first victim they meet is a cripplingly obese man sat in his own urine and faeces. The word "gluttony" has been written on the wall behind the freezer. Hardly the most beautiful opening to a film, but that's the whole idea. As the two cops uncover more killings, things get much more horrific...

A pound of flesh - seven times over!

Advantages: great film

...I had read some mixed reviews about Seven Pounds, but being a big fan of Will Smith, I thought that I would get the DVD anyway and form my own opinion. I am very glad that I did because both me and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the film although it was not obvious that we were going to at first. It's a bit difficult at first to work out what is going on. The time sequence jumps about a lot with lots of flashbacks so it's a bit tricky to work out what is now and what was then. It's a bit like having to fit lots of pieces of a jigsaw together - quite daunting at first but very satisfying when it is complete. Because of this it is not easy to summarise the plot without giving too much away. We know that right from the start that Smith's character, Ben Thomas, is a very troubled man as his first action is to dial 911 and to report his own...

Seven Strangers but One Secret

Advantages: emotional, moving, excellent story, wonderfully acted
Disadvantages: Too emotional at times

...needed for the scenes they were used in. Now without trying to spoil this film for those who have not seen it then I would just like to touch upon the ending as for me is was not what I was expecting. I had a times throughout the film thought I had worked out how it would end but I got it so wrong and for me it was a very powerful and moving end to a wonderful film. I will warn that tissues will be needed for the last 20 minutes of this. The DVD which I have does have a few special features which include:- Audio Commentary with Director Gabriele Muccino Deleted Scenes Featurettes: Seven Views on Seven Pounds, Creating the perfect Ensemble, The Box Jellyfish: World?s Deadliest Co Star, Emily?s Passion: The Art of the Printing Press. I am not a fan of bonus features so I have not watched these so I am not able to give comment...

My friends tend to complain quite frequently at the overabundance of action movies in my DVD collection, and, in truth, I?m the last person they ever thought would cry at a ?love story?. Seven - a great thriller by a very good director

Advantages: Excellent performances and a clever story
Disadvantages: A bit bleak and depressing! Not really a disadvantage for me but not to everyone's taste

...Seven - or Se7en as it was marketed here - is directed by David Fincher and stars Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. Freeman plays a retiring cop hoping to escape the eternally dreary and grim city in which he has been working with the homicide squad for many years. Looking to replace him is an ambitious young police officer played by Pitt. Between them they try to track down the culprit behind a series of killings based on the seven deadly sins getting ever closer to the deadly psychopath. This is the film that really made me take notice of David Fincher as a director. The rainy city provides a classic film noir backdrop with its depressing anonymity. Advantages: great sound/picture, good extras
Disadvantages: no dvd-rom features on R2, a few dull extras

...The first dvd release of Seven was incredibly lacklustre but there was always a the rumour that a special edition would eventually turn up as seeing as New Line were the film's producers, well you wouldn't doubt them Released as a two dvd set this is a very accomplished effort that was well worth waiting for. As you probably know the film follows two detectives , one old, one young as they try to track down a serial killer who is killing according to the seven deadly sins. What set's this aside from being the normal genre standard are great performances, gruesome relaity and a very dark tone courtesy of David Fincher. The film itself has been re-mastered for this release. What they actually done was to do a master from the original film negative. this was risky as some will know that if the negative gets damaged then the original...

Seven Seas Worldwide - Great Company

Advantages: Efficiens and very polite, explained the whole process and deliver my goods correctly every time
Disadvantages: Seven Seas Worldwide have been victims of bad internet press

...I have used Seven Seas Worldwide a number of times and find them to be both efficient and very well organised. They arranged to collect my stuff on time and once delivered it a little later than I had hoped but the communication was there, they told me all about the delays and when to expect the delivery. Everything goes really well every time I use Seven Seas Worldwide. I was so surprised then when I recommended them to a friend to be told that there is negative press out there online about them. So I looked into it and guess what - its the same guys posting the same story on every site. you've either got 2 unhappy customers who have made it their life's mission to destroy the company ( I don't know many people like that) or this is a deliberate attempt by a competitor to bad mouth them...I know where I'd place my bets. ...I have just returned from an adventure of a lifetime... Well not exactly an adventure but that's how it felt after reading the last page of a remarkable 535 paged book, titled Seven Ancient Wonders written by Matthew Reilly. I left this story feeling excited and very exhausted, because you get the feeling that you are part of the story, it grabs you by the collar and pulls you along with it like a rush of adrenalin. The Story. In ancient times there was a magnificent 9 foot high, Capstone that stood at the peak of the great pyramid at Giza, The Egyptians called it Benben. Shaped like a pyramid it featured the eye of Horus and also had mysterious carvings in an unknown language. The stone was made up of seven pieces of gold, with a thin bore-hole that ran down the centre, embedded in each hole was a crystal, when placed in sequence...
