Disadvantages: Poor leg room in the Circle

...I took my son to see Amanda Holden in Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Shaftesbury in February. Unfortunately, she was ill and the understudy stepped into her shoes - literally! The performance was good and the atmosphere was exciting for an 'out of towner' used to more rural pleasures! We booked Circle seats through www.Lastminute.com - 20 pounds each - not bad, I thought - and collected our tickets from the Box Office one hour before the performance. With great anticipation we went upstairs to our seats. The Royal Circle, where we were sitting, are the 'posh' seats and usually cost up to 40 - 45 pounds each. I'm glad that I did not pay that much for them. Most of the audience were put into one side of the circle even though there were spare seats towards the back across the aisle. The little leg room there was did spoil the comfort...

Good London hotel in Kensington

Advantages: Excellent location and lovely clean hotel
Disadvantages: Staff could be a bit clearer about hotel details

...I booked this hotel for me and my friend when we visited london for her birthday. The hotel is located at the far end of Hogarth Street from Earls Court Tube station (you can walk to the hotel in approx 3-4 minutes from the entrance to the station.) One thing that was not explained when i booked the hotel online was that you actually check in to the sister hotel 'Best Western The Shaftesbury London Kensington' located just around the corner....on the website these are shown as separate hotels so why would i think to check in there! When locating our hotel we were very confused as to why we could not get in and it was only on enquiring at the other hotel we established that this is where we need to check in. When you check in you are given 2 small cards the size of a bank card. I don't stay in hotels that often so i presumed these...

Cafe Pasta, Pizza, Steak, Salad, Seafood & Tapas

Advantages: wide ranging menu, great service
Disadvantages: dont get stuck downstairs on your own

...For my 50th review I am going to let you in on a little secret, one of the unsung heroes of the London restaurant scene - I would not be surprised if you hadn't heard of Café Pasta, they only have half a dozen sites and all but one are based in London tucked away slightly off the beaten track. But don't let this put you off, I f you're tired of Pizza Express, Strada, Prezzo or Ask why not give this little gem a try? I have been eating there on and off for the last 7 years and the menu continues to expand, moving from pasta to 12" pizza (Strada sized - take note Pizza Express!) and a selection of grills. The Shaftesbury Avenue branch is at the top of Shaftesbury avenue at the Covent garden end, making it perfect for a meal before visiting the Shaftesbury theatre (for Daddy cool, the Boney M musical), Freuds for cocktails...

High and mighty

Advantages: Fascinating look at a man whose achievements are little remembered
Disadvantages: Perhaps not the most inviting or 'nice' subject for a book (but life's not always nice!)

...I've long considered Eddie Izzard to be a brilliant comedian for no reason other than that he seems to bumble his way through a stand up show with hilarious consequences. Part of any great stand up comedian is their ability to make it look like they're thinking things up on the spot, having a conversation with you and getting across points on subjects that appeal to the audience. Quite often, we rely on stand up comedians to say what we think, and to make a mockery of issues, whether they be serious or irrelevant. What Eddie Izzard does is that he lets his extraordinary talent for going off on a tangent and letting his sense of humour come into it, as opposed to following his script. ...The only Globe Theatre in London is Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. There was a Globe Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, but it has recently been renamed the Gielgud Theatre to honour Sir John Gielgud, who directed and played in "The Importance of Being Earnest" here in 1939. The Theatre was built in 1906, and opened as the Hicks Theatre, changing its name to the Globe Theatre in 1909. The Gielgud Theatre is currently playing "The Graduate" starring Kathleen Turner. At the end of July 2000, Jerry Hall will take over as Mrs Robinson. The closest Underground station is Piccadilly Circus....

It is actually of fairly recent origin compared to Chinatown in Liverpool,historically Limehouse was the main area which attracted the Chinese in London.However,over the last two or three decades numerous Chinese enterprises have set up business in this ethnic quarter. Predominantly Chinatown comprises a few Chinese-style supermarkets where you can buy noodles,kailan,sawi, durian,mangoes,ginger,garlic, and all the other ingredientsfor Chinese cooking.The other primary activity-which the Chinese love- is eating out-there are a large number of Chinese restaurants,some of whom have a high reputation for their culinary offerings. The articles are well written and highly informative. On the other hand you might observe that "mainstream medicine" tends to get short shift and some might even suggest the magazine has a definite bias in favour of alternative medicine. ...Christmas holidays are always a time for me to catch up with friends and this one has been no exception. Earlier this week I met up with a group of university friends at the Wong Kei restaurant located in London?s China Town at 41-43 Wardour St. This is just off Shaftesbury Avenue and the nearest tube station is Leicester Square, which is about a 5-minute walk away. I arrived on time but my friends were fashionably late and so I spent some time standing outside the restaurant. This gave me the chance to have a look at the menu to see what was on offer and what sort of price range we were looking at. I tend to avoid eating chicken or meat when eating out, so I was quite pleased to see that there was a huge range of vegetarian and fish dishes on offer.
