Shane To Alfie
Advantages: Great read, interesting, informative, honest
Disadvantages: Takes a while to get your interest
...HATE TO ACCEPTANCE
A few years ago, I would have said I hated Shane Richie. There was no concrete reason behind it, I’d never met the man, it was just a feeling. I knew he’d cheated on Coleen Nolan when they were married and I thought of him as arrogant, annoying, one of those grinning faces you want to slap.
When I heard he was going to be in EastEnders, I was close to stopping watching it – a programme I’d followed since the first episode in 1985! I was convinced he would ruin it and I couldn’t face the thought of seeing him four times a week.
But I decided to give him a chance and I’m glad I did. The first time he appeared as Alfie Moon, he was mildly irritating, but watchable. A few weeks later, we were saying things like “He’s really rather good, isn’t he?" Now he...

Review of Rags To Richie: the Story so Far - Shane Richie
|
Shame on Shane!
Advantages: Compulsive reading
Disadvantages: None at all really
...paid his dues on the Club Scene. He has had his fair share of nights where he has ‘died’ on stage and learnt from it, perfecting his craft to the extent he can take a lead role in a west end musical means he must be an exceptionally dedicated and talented individual. Before I read the book I didn’t really appreciate what that really meant.
Shane’s Life
In the book Shane talks about his poor upbringing, speaking candidly about the fact that he had a somewhat distant relationship with his father and brother and at times walked the fine line of the law. His love for his mother shines through and though at times he has been a lousy Husband/Boyfriend, in fact a generally unfaithful ratbag of the highest order, he somehow comes across as a well balanced person, a good father and a loyal friend.
The experience...

FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

The Wilder West
Advantages: Unspoiled wilderness, fascinating sights and sites
Disadvantages: Persistent rainfall, persistent sandflies
...Having crossed the Southern Alps and reached the coast at Greymouth, you may be tempted to head south straight away. This is, after all, the direction in which the highest mountains, the deepest rainforest and the remotest tracts of wilderness are to be found. And if you haven't come to see mountains, forest and wilderness, you've come to the wrong place.
Resist the temptation. First, cross the Grey River and take a small diversion up the coast to the north, just an hour's drive to the Paparoa National Park. You will thereby ensure that your first taste of the west coast is not the relatively drab and developed stretch immediately south of Greymouth (only relatively, since nothing along this coast is drab or developed by European standards). North of the Grey River the country is hardly touched, and the drive takes you round...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Tame Tame West
Advantages: Some good fight choreography
Disadvantages: Acting and script leave a lot to be desired, special effects are tired
...In 1999, a good combination of cast and crew got together under the directing prowess of Barry Sonnenfeld to create what was possibility the most disappointing film of the year. Wild Wild West had great potential to be an awesome film. So, where did it go wrong?
The Plot
Captain Jim West and US Marshall Artemus Gordon are two of the most skilled gunslingers and trackers in the US. Trained on opposite sides of the law enforcement spectrum, they must team together in order to rescue the President from the clutches of an evil madman, who also happens to be an inventor with a thousand different toys to throw at the two heroes as they assail him in order to succeed in their mission.
The Cast and Performances
Will Smith heads what should have bee a good cast in this Western with a difference. He plays Jim West, who upholds the law...

Wild West Pinball
Advantages: Addictive
Disadvantages: Only one level
...So, here's another iPhone Application for your approval...and it is of course free! It's the Wild West Pinball game. (Waits for applause...)
Being a free game from the manufacturers, OOOGameprom, you may not expect much from it...but low and behold, you'll soon find yourself addicted. The old ones are the best and all that!
Now, unless you've had your head in the sand forever then you'll all know the concept of pinball. Using the paddles at the bottom of the table to smack the ball around in an attempt to collect points by hitting various parts of the table or making the ball travel in various spaces. This is obviously no expection. The layout of the table is a glossy wooden one with red trim. As the title of the game suggests, it has a wild west theme...a large cowboy aiming a gun is the icon for the application when sat on your i...

NatWest - a Student-friendly bank
Advantages: Easy to set up, great overdraft facility, great student credit card
Disadvantages: Solo/Maestro - you have to make sure you have the right debit card
......
What do NatWest have to offer?
Why did I choose NatWest for my student account? The answer is very simple: I've had a bank account with NatWest for many years, and although I did research other banks before deciding who to open a student account with, I ultimately chose to stick with NatWest.
For students starting university this year who open an account before 10 October 2009, this is what's on offer:
* A Maestro debit card - accepted pretty much everyone in shops and online, and can be used abroad (at a cost, obviously)
* Chequebook (you need to apply for this though)
* Student credit card (CAUTION: I'll come back to this later...)
* An overdraft facility starting at £1,250 in your first year
* Freebie #1 - A 16-25 railcard for 5 years, worth £130, which gives you up to 1/3 off rail tickets AND doubles up as a student discount card...

Review of NatWest Accounts
|
NatWest
Advantages: Good for young people, no problems so far, lots of cashpoints
Disadvantages: None so far.
...Being a bit of a freebie hunter when I decided to open up a bank account I opened one with whatever bank gave me the best freebie. At the time NatWest were the only bank offering me an “incentive” to join and it was a £10 gift voucher so my Card Plus account was opened and I was a customer of the nasty NatWest.
I was given a Solo card with my cashcard account by NatWest. A card that most banks only give to customers who are aged 16 or over. A Solo card is a debit card designed for young people, see my opinion on it for further information. All cash machines are free to customers of NatWest though I think NatWest have the most cash machines that belong to them out of the British banks so it shouldn’t be a problem for you finding a cash point.
NatWest have abolished plans of closing branches – so your local...

NatWest - super service until theres a problem!
Advantages: Until you have a problem, they're great. Very quick to spot potentially fraudulent activity on your account
Disadvantages: Absolutely dire at sorting out any problems you have have - expect long delays with no explanation
...Having banked with NatWest essentially all my life (well, since I set up my very first bank account with them over 7 years ago), I have never had a problem with them. In fact, if asked, at one point I would have quite happily heartily recommended them to anyone.
The service I used to receive in my ex-local branch was second to none. Friendly and helpful Customer Service people. Excellent range of accounts to suit everyones needs. Rates that were always in line with their competitors (give or take, at times). Even handier was that a few years ago they even started advertising that they would only ever have UK based call centres too so you were assured you'd be able to understand those people on the other ends of the telephones if you ever neede to ring them. What more could you need from your bank?
Of course most of use use...
