A look at Tube Trains on the Isle of Wight, with a bonus feature on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. This programme takes a look at the ex-1938 London Underground tube trains which work the eight and a half miles of national network between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin stations on the Isle of Wight. The reason why the island has to make use of tube trains becomes apparent when we view Ryde Tunnel with its limited height clearances. First with the help of archive and present day photographs, we take a brief look at the island's forty years of electric train history. Then in three stages, we explore the route from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin. This includes a special visit to the five mile long Isle of Wight Steam Railway which operates from Smallbrook Junction to Wootton. Finally we take a quick look at where the redundant tube stock has gone after its extended life on the island, and what the future will be for this small interesting railway. With an informative commentary, visual graphics and with over 50 minutes of exciting train action, this is a show that you won't want to miss!
