OAK WOOD ARMS HOTEL SHANNON

Advantages: Very good Hotel, great service
Disadvantages: In the wrong place.

...Just back from a weekend Jaunt to Ireland. We flew Ryanair Eastmidlands to Shannon, £38 return (No hold luggage and online checkin). We booked the Oakwood Arms at Shannon, this was mainly as our return flight was 09:30 Monday morning and we did not want to get up early to travel. We booked it thru LATEROOMS.COM for 85 Euros a night for Double room with Buffet Breakfast. Ireland seems to be pricey for Hotels, so this was not too bad (We do cheaper when we go Venice). We had hired a Car so after picking that up it was just a 10 min Drive into Shannon and the Hotel. First Impressions were very good, better than most of the reviews we had read. Its a low level building on the edge of Shannon, not that there's much in the middle of Shannon, just seems to be a Housing Estate. Checkin looks very smart and professional...

...Shannon Airport is as the review says, much of a much ness as any other airport, been to one you have been to most. The thing that stuck out in my mind was as we landed at the airport and walked towards the arrivals there seemed to be a room, conservatory, glass building full of people in uniform. As my mind was on other things at that particular moment in time I just dismissed it as security on the airport. On our return journey we arrived in good time and went through to departures and just talking about this and that when to my amazement a lot of military staff came thought towards us, and they just kept on arriving. You could see by their dress that they where on their way from the States to somewhere hot, and dusty?????the faces of the younger people said it all. SHANNON A GOOD LITTLE AIRPORT

Advantages: A PLEASANT WELCOME
Disadvantages: None

...Shannon Airport, located on the West Coast of Ireland. We flew into Shannon last Friday on the Ryanair flight from East Midlands, flight time 1 hour. There was a lot of cloud on the day we arrived, and for that fact until we left on the Monday. As we decended below the clouds we could see the Shannon River, which is very large, perhaps all that rain. All the planes seem to park within Walking distance of the terminal, so no need for that Bus Crush ride, very pleasant, also the walk way for most of the way was covered. Passport control, just a little glance at the offered Passport, but a Big Smile and a "Come on in to Ireland", oh if it could always be like that whereever you go. A short walk brings you to Baggage Reclaim, this I can not comment on as we had only Cabin Luggage, for speed and to save on costs. It...

Shannon or Shannoff

Advantages: Uncrowded, good location for the West of Ireland
Disadvantages: Limited facilities and range of destinations

...Being a regular visitor to the Republic of Ireland to visit my girlfriend in Limerick, I found that I was having to fly to Dublin and then having a long journey either by bus or train down to Limerick. When I found out that Ryanair had a route to Shannon, which is only about 25mins away from Limerick, I was really excited. Now I have flown to this airport on many occasions and I have found it to be a remarkably pleasant airport for a smaller one. When you arrive at Shannon, the first thing that strikes you is how small it is. Despite being the second largest in Ireland, it is still not what you would expect. However this is an advantage in my view because, as I hate flying I just want to get off the aircraft quickly, and this happens due to the shortness of the runway and taxiway allowing the plane to arrive at the terminal quite...

People saying it was the British Thelma & Louise put me off straight away (as if it would be, they said that about Beautiful Creatures too) and after aforementioned Beautiful Creatures (which wasn’t all that) I thought it would be more of the same. Nice surroundings, too steamy at night

...This hotel is one of a number around the small Village of Bunratty, mid way between Ennis and Limerick, with Shannon Airport being located just 8 miles from here. Just off the dual carriageway, this little gem is an ideal stopover for a night, or a good base for a few days holiday in the locality. I stayed here as a party of 12, all on a little getaway for the weekend as part of a 40th birthday celebration. From the first contact with the hotel over the phone (for the booking) to the moment we left for home, the experience overall was wonderful. I spoke with a girl from South Africa and managed to blag my way into a further discount asides from the one I already had .. due to the few words I spoke in afrikaans! Review of Bunratty Shannon Shamrock, Shannon

Jewel airport of Ireland

Advantages: Great smaller airport, no fuss. Quick check ins. Small bar and shops. Quite seating areas.
Disadvantages: Shop small if you're out to spend, spend, spend, but they do stock most items, including Irish products for you to take home.

...I have to say I've used this airport probably a hundred times over the last few years, and have never had a problem with it. The new roads in Shannon now mean that driving times are cut, as well as just making your driving more pleasent. The airport is situation the far side of Shannon Town, so you can either drive through the small town or just take the main airport road, which leads you straight into the car parks or terminal, or the hotels / golf course. I have to say Shannon has some pretty well hid views if you have time to take them in, a great for walkers if you are staying in the town. As for the airport, after either parking your car or being dropped off, there are two seperate doors, one for arrivals, and one for departures, although they connect to being the one building. This is such a plus! I'm not a great traveller...

Come on closer

Advantages: A great tale
Disadvantages: Possibly a tad too long

...Far and Away is a great film that transports the viewer on the brilliant journey from Ireland to America along with the films main characters Joseph and Shannon. Joseph is a poor tenant farmer who after his fathers death feels it is about time that justice was brought to his oppressive landlord, Daniel Christie, and so heads to his house in order to take his revenge. Instead of killing his landlord however like he had planned Joseph is injured and the landlord's wife and servants nurse him back to health. Meanwhile Christie's daughter Shannon is growing tired of the family's traditions and ways and longs to be a modern woman. Whilst Joseph is being nursed back to health Shannon makes plans to leave for America and implores Joseph to help her.
