Sharp Aquos LC46

Advantages: Cheap, simple to use and good picture
Disadvantages: Basic in features, better picture on more expensive sets, poor EPG

...As we allready own a Sharp Aquos LC 32 (analogue) we decided to upgrade to a 46" Digital model. The TV is simple to instal and tune and the menu easy to follow. The backlight feature is not so good as it is set on maximum as a factory standard. We could have done with a bit more backlight as the picture can appear dark at times. The Electronic Program Guide is not the best in the world but suffient for use. It takes forever to browse through the week ahead as you have to move one program at a time. Most EPGs allow you to skip days. To obtain the best results, you have to adjust all of the colours and tints to your own standards but this is easy to do and the menu is user friendly. Sharp TV

Advantages: Great Value Easy to set up

...I opted for this TV instead of the latest Samsung due to previously having a Sharp and the excellent value of it. Not disappointed at all! The specs were almost the same and the Sharp television is over £100 cheaper. Well worth it, picture quality is fantastic and is very easy to set up. The great thing about the set is the amount of inputs there are on the back of it. 3x HDMI, component, scart etc plenty of inputs for everything you will have. The only niggle i is that the built in Freeview is quite slow to respond to commands and doesn't have a page up/down option on the EPG. Nor does it have a small preview screen small price to pay i guess!...

Sharp LC-42 XD1E Review

Advantages: Excellent picture quality and value
Disadvantages: Sound depth not amazing but as good as any I ve seen

...I spent a long time researching before purchasing this TV and can honestly say I have no regrets whatsoever. The picture is fantastic (used for HDTV/PS3 + Blu Ray and even a Nintendo WII) especially in full 1080p resolution. The number of HDMI sockets may potentially cause issues in the future but for now 2 is fine. The built in digital freeview is a welcome bonus (but most people that are willing to buy a 42" TV will have some sort of tv provider anyway). It isn't too heavy and looks excellent when wall mounted. My only complaint is that the sound doesn't have a great deal of depth but when the speakers are built into the unit it is expected. It is no worse than my friends' equivalent tvs but I can't write a review without an attempt at balance....

...If you've opened this review to read a detailed technological breakdown of a product, then pop back where you came from, I can't talk ratio's pixilation or megahertz, what I can do however is tell you blow by blow when it comes to the world of Blueray if the Sharp Aquos is worth the money. When it comes to Blueray there is a cloud of haze that surrounds the format, generally you don't ask questions because it almost seen as if you should know, rather like sex or kissing when you're at school. Go into an electrical showroom and ask questions, the sales assistant might well look at you like your not quite there, or as if you really should know the answers to the questions. There seems no overall sense or purpose to it ? no coherent overlying message. At the time, I didn?t have the benefit of hearing their earlier work, which is markedly different and less commercial. Looking at this album in context today, it marks a sharp turn away from their back catalogue, taking a new and different (but not necessarily better) direction. I?m not sure casual Level 42 fans at the time would have been pleased ? it smelled of a sell out in an attempt to garner more widespread recognition. That said, I think ?World Machine? has survived the test of time and has dated fairly well.
