Review of Sitecom Fax / Modem

An excellent modem

Advantages: reliable, fast
Disadvantages: None

...My ZOOM 56K V90 Dual Modem has been the best modem I have ever had. When I purchased a new machine it came with its own PCI modem, however this soon came out and was replace with my trusty zoom when I started getting cut off from my ISP. I regularly axchieve speeds of up to 52K and with a usual connection at 49,333 bps. The modem is fitted internally and has been in service now for almost 2 years without any sign of breakdown. Trusty, reliable and fast are the best way I can describe it. With a Flash Circuit I can even upgrade it should the need arise. A great modem at a very reasonable price. Customer support is excellent too....

Aztech's classy modem

Advantages: Works perfectly as a fax, dialup and along side broadband
Disadvantages: Features you can't use or find

...technology and it works well as a fax. I've never had any problem with it whenever I've used it. It hardly ever cuts out and gives you uninterrupted internet/fax time as long as you have the program to Fax and use the Internet. The maximum transfer rate out of this modem for the Internet is 56 Kbps and the maximum for the fax is 14.4kps. An interesting feature is the modem can tell you when you have a phone call so you can configure the PC to alert you that you have a phone call and it will on your specification, either disconnect the modem or not. Although, I know about this feature I've never figured out how to use it yet and now I have NTL Cable modem and don't use this modem to connect to the Internet anymore through broadband nor dialup, I don't think I will find out. The modem cannot be used in DOS modem which is a shame for old computer...

A Horrible Fax Machine!

...I warn my readers that this could be a raging review since I just threw this fax machine into the bin. Not only it costed me more than £30 two years ago but for the little times I've needed it it hardly worked properly. This morning I was trying to send a fax and the paper kept jamming into the rolls... but let's proceed in order. This Olivetti Fax-Lab is one of those product that you always see in offer (and for a reason), a couple of years ago they costed even up to £60-£70 but I found mine with a 40% discount so, since I often needed to fax documents and stuff like that, I bought it without second thoughts Later on I found out that I didn't need to fax documents SO often to justify purchasing a fax machine but still, it has been useful sometimes. eFax.com - Definately the best free fax service

...eFax.com is definately the best free fax to e-mail service around today. I presently have two free fax numbers with them. One is a USA fax number and one is a UK fax number. Since I do business with some companies in the States it works out cheaper for them to send me faxes on a local USA fax number. They are incredibly fast. Just to test it out I sent a fax to my own number and checked my e-mail after just 30 seconds and presto it was in my Inbox. It's really easy to download the viewer from their site. Another plus point is that you can send this fax as an e-mail to others or save as a file just at the click of a button. Nice external modem

Advantages: Fast and stable
Disadvantages: May have difficulty connecting to certain modems, though unproved

...I got this mode because it was the cheapest external mowsem I could find. I got an external because I did not want a softmodem, and alkso because I was likely to be moving it from pc to pc. The modem performed well, I always got a devent (54+) connection speed, and it seemed reliable. The modem comes with a large number of features, like voice capability, though as far as I can tell, this is only usable under Windows. However, my modem did not last long, after 15 months it was killed in action while I was online during a lightning storm. Yes, it was my fault, and so I have no hesitancy in recommending this....

Funnily enough this is free but with limited facilities (what do you want for the price?). The free service allows receipt only, that is, you can?t send faxes via web/email. This may seem like a major restriction but remember that if you have a modem on your PC then you can send a fax directly anyway (let?s not get obsessed with the technology). The free service also does not allow the user to specify a local number, instead a number is allocated at random by eFax. From experience this seems to be an 0870 national rate number although eFax say it could be any number available to them. National rate numbers cost about 10p per minute to call so are not...
