The Riverside Court Hotel, Sheffield

Advantages: Near City Centre, Good value for money, River view
Disadvantages: On a busy road

...The Riverside Court Hotel is situated just outside Sheffield City Centre within a few minutes walk of the main markets and one of the main Shopping areas of the City. It occupies a prominent position on the corner of Nursery Street, where it meets the Wicker. Historically the Wicker is an area of the City that was once a thriving part of Sheffield with lots of Shops and Businesses. Today it is rather run down, although improvements are currently underway, and most of the businesses in this area are now take aways and other fast food outlets. The Riverside Court Hotel actually occupies quite an enviable location at the top end of the Wicker. It sits on Lady's Bridge next to the Exchange Brewery Works with views overlooking the River Don and the new Apartment Blocks on the opposite banks of this River. Lady's Bridge was built in...

A Cosy Night In The Leafy Suburbs Of Sheffield!

Advantages: Good Value For Money, Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: Quite Small

...The Nether Edge Hotel in Sheffield was the chosen location of a Wedding Party Reception when a good friend got married yestersay (Saturday 8th April 2006). Although it is located only about 3 miles from where I live I knew that there was going to be a late (very late) Bar and so I decided along with a few other guests, and the Bride & Groom to book a room for the night. THE LOCATION The Nether Edge Hotel 21-23 Montgomery Road Nether Edge Sheffield South Yorkshire S7 1LN Telephone: 0114 255 4363 It is directly on the number 22 Bus route from the city centre and there is a Bus Stop right outside. By Bus is it less than a ten minute journey from the town centre, which will currently cost you £1.50 for a single fare. THE RECEPTION ROOMS The Nether Edge Hotel is quite a small Hotel, situated within the rather affluent...

Beauchief Hotel that isn't very 'beau'!!

Advantages: Quiet room
Disadvantages: Distance from city centre

...I stayed at the hotel last week and was not overly impressed at all. We booked via the internet - www.laterooms.com and managed to get a double room for £50 instead of the hotels rack rate of £79. It took a little finding as the travel instructions were not very clear but once we found Abbeydale Road South...it was a straight run to the hotel. The car parking entrance for hotel guests is not clearly marked and you need to turn into Abbey Lane to reach it. We initially used the car park which is available for patrons of the restaurant and pub. To reach the reception area from this car park you have to walk along a glassed in corridor, which I imagine in the summer is quite warm, but on a cold evening was chilly. The receptionist was very helpful and pleasant, even though she had just had a trying time with non...

If you stay anywhere in Sheffield, STAY HERE!!!

Advantages: Lovely hotel not too far from City centre
Disadvantages: Slightly flustered receptionist!

...Well, I booked this hotel as the one I usually book (The Harley) was all full up, most likely because of the snooker bods staying in Sheffield this weekend. And I'm soooo glad I did! As I don't go to this end of Sheffield much we had a little difficulty finding the place to start with. We were on the bus (the 22 services from High Street or the Peace Gardens goes that way) and although the bus stop is right outside the hotel itself, the building is set slightly back from the road and sort of dominated by the Nether Edge Taven next door, so we went right round to the bus terminus, as the driver didn't know where it was either and looked VERY CAREFULLY for our hotel, diving off the bus, almost literally, when my friend saw it! At first glance it looks like quite a small place. According to the brochure blurb it's a mid-19th...

Whirlowbrook Hall, Sheffield

Advantages: Lovely setting
Disadvantages: Cafe is expensive

...period at 3.45pm. My most recent visit to Whirlowbrook Hall was in December 2007 when I attended my friend's wedding ceremony. She didn't actually get married at the hall but she had her evening do here. There is an area within Whirlowbrook Hall that is specifically set aside for catering for wedding functions and this room can cater for up to 150 people. The setting was perfect and a very enjoyable evening was had by all. Overall I think that Whirlowbrook Hall is an ideal venue for weddings, conferences, banquets and meetings and I would certainly recommend it to others. Ibis Sheffield - the heat is on, no it's off again!

Advantages: Good location, good value for money
Disadvantages: No additional facilties

...A low budget weekend getaway (thanks to National Express for the £1 each way offer!) called for a low cost hotel. I remembered someone saying that the Accor family member Etap now had a hotel in Sheffield but, situated by the Don Valley Stadium, it was a little too far out of town to be practical for such a short stay. As I am now the proud owner of an Accor hotels loyalty card I decided to check the Accor website and see if any other reasonably priced hotels presented themselves and this was how we came to choose the Ibis. I know this will sound strange to those readers who like a certain ?standard? of accommodation but I have rarely considered Ibis hotels because I?ve always thought them to be pricey; in any case I tend to look at hostel and bed and breakfast accommodation before I look at hotel options. We were quoted £49...

A Big Day At The Sheffield Novotel!

Advantages: Excellent Food, Central Location.
Disadvantages: Poor Bar Service, Limited Parking.

...When one of my best friends got married yesterday (Sunday 19th December 2005) the location that she chose was the Novotel in Sheffield. This location was chosen for the entire day, which included the Civil Wedding at 2.30pm, the meal afterwards at 4pm and the evening reception which started at 7.30pm. The first thing that I will say before I begin this review is that I live less than a 5 minute walk away from this Hotel, which is conveniently situated right in the middle of the city centre, so I didn't actually stay here. This review is therefore based on my own opinions as seen from a non paying guest. My friend was staying at the Novotel (with her sister) on the Saturday night as well as her Wedding night the following day so I first went to this Hotel on Saturday night for a pre wedding drink. FIRST IMPRESSIONS The Novotel...

Novotel Sheffield

Advantages: Central
Disadvantages: Limited parking

...As my son is studying at Sheffield University we have sampled a few of the hotels Sheffield has to offer and the Novotel is one we have used more than once. For anyone visiting Sheffield for the first time, the traffic system can be a little confusing so the situation of the Novotel makes it attractive to visitors. Once you've negotiated Park Square and actually managed to turn left into Arundel Gate you have to drive passed the hotel on the opposite side of the road, go round the roundabout and come back along Arundel Gate the opposite way to gain entrance to the hotel. Each time we've visited there have been roadworks on or near the roundabout and this can cause problems. The hotel is clearly visible when you approach but the inside lane is buses only so you have to cut across the bus lane to get into the hotel. Parking is...

Bristol in... Sheffield

Advantages: not expensive
Disadvantages: a bit wacky colour scheme throughout

...My husband and I stayed in the Hotel Bristol in Sheffield in 2002. We made a reservation really late, almost at the last minute, but we managed to book a room and arrived two hours later. I remember because of strange road system it took us quite along time to actually get to the hotel and find the right car-park and by mistake we first parked in the car park of another hotel. But check-in was no problem at all. Our room looked very bright, done in red and blue colours. I suppose the colours were chosen to create a modern look and I do like bright colours, but I am not sure if red and blue are appropriate for a bedroom. Unless you are absolutely shattered and don?t need a calming and relaxing atmosphere anyway and all you need is a bed. But maybe I am wrong? Anyway, apart from the bed there was a TV, telephone, tea and coffee making...

The Sheffield Star

Advantages: Lots Of Local News
Disadvantages: Not Published On A Sunday

...I thought that a review of my local Newspaper the Sheffield Star was well overdue, but I have been waiting for Ciao to add it as a product category. Now that it has finally been added I guess that there is no excuse so here goes?. THE BASIC INFORMATION The Sheffield Star is Sheffield's only daily Newspaper. It is published by Sheffield Newspapers Ltd and is colloquially known within its circulation area simply as the Star, which it will be referred to as hereafter in this review. The Star is published Monday to Saturday and circulated throughout South Yorkshire, North East Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire. The daily circulation of this Newspaper was 182,237 as at the 1st February 2005. There are three different regional variations published other than the main Sheffield version. These regional versions cover Rotherham...
