Shell petrol stations

Advantages: Excellent petrol, good range of services like airpumps/vacuums etc at most stations
Disadvantages: Ethics? Good employers? Pluspoints!!!

...Hmmm... so many people are dubious about buying from shell because of many reasons, however i am uncertain about where i stand in those questions so i'm not going into those, perhaps another day. What i'm reviewing here is the petrol stations, the shops, the service and the quality of petrol. I drove a Mk2 VW Golf (H-reg), which has done just over 100,000 miles (under average) - it ran ok when i bought it a few years ago, but used to not start every time and misfire when idleing. I started going to Shell in Cambridge (Trumpington) because it was near to my workplace and when i drove in (usually in the rain!) it was conveniant to fill up there. I also opened a Pluspoints scheme, which is pretty rubbish - but over time i thought it would bring benifits. The service at the station is average/good, they usually are fairly chatty...

More Than Just A Petrol Filling Station?

Advantages: Now Open Every Day 24 Hours
Disadvantages: Mobile Mast On Premises, No Cash Machine

...I never really expected to ever write a review on my local Petrol Station because it is something that has always been there and I suppose it is the sort of place that I have always taken for granted. However the inspiration behind this review came on Christmas Day morning when driving past here I noticed that it was not only one of the few Filling Stations that was actually open for business as usual in my home City of Sheffield, but that the Supermarket that is attached to this place was also open, fully functional and packed to capacity with people buying last minute items like Milk, Bread and Cigarettes. This Shell Crest Petrol Filling Station occupies an envious location on the A57, known locally as Handsworth Road about 3 miles to the East of the City Centre. Wow a review on a petrol station

Advantages: Convenient
Disadvantages: Not as cheap as the nearby Tesco filling station

...I saw this as a review and seeing as I regularly top up at thsi particular station, I thought Id let you all know about it.. although I have to admit Filling Stations dont spark much much interest! This BP branded garage is situated on the infamous North Circular Road (A406), and can only be accessed when travelling eastbound. It is about 1 mile past the East Finchley turning. It is easy to see and so you shouldnt past it by mistake. That said, this is one of the few places on the A406 where there isnt too much traffic so you could whizz past it if you are speeding (would serve you right!) It is clean and large, and has the full range of unleaded, LPG and diesel fules. It can get busy, but I dont usually have to queue for more that 5 mins. One of the better things about this garage is that it has a 'BP connect shop...

IVE GOT GAS - OF THE LPG VARIETY

Advantages: Cost, Improves range, Energy reliance, green, improving technology
Disadvantages: Small amount of petrol to start

...My LPG conversion was installed a year ago I had being toying with the idea for a while. after hearing my partners uncle had it on a Lexus I took the plunge. 2 grand a small wheel like tank in tool slot at rear of vehicle and it was installed. The LPG can be switched between petrol and LPG and the fact you can have a tank of petrol and a tank of Gas gives your car a longer range. The LPG tank is full for £20 as oppose to £30 for half a tank of petrol - such a big difference but the car needs a small amount of petrol to start so I keep a quarter of a tank of petrol in usually just for that purpose. If you get the LPG system installed correctly the car doesnt suffer much loss in power. I was made aware of rally cars with 200hp engines running on gas and I also drove a converted vauxhall calibre that really flew, overtaking was easy...

Disadvantages: High in fat

LPG should you? My experiance as a guide.

...I have been running on LPG for a little over five years now, and covered a shade under 220,000 miles in two cars. The first car was a Honda Accord 2.2 Coupe that had 65,000 miles on the clock when I had it converted to gas. Used was a cheap and basic OMVL kit. This basically converted an injection engine, into a carburettor engine by inserting little more than an open pipe into the inlet manifold, allowing the engine to suck the gas into the cylinders for combustion. Luckily the engine was powerful enough to start with to compensate for the resulting drop in power. There was a cylinder in the boot behind the back seats which made the boot one foot shorter, but I still retained the full sized spare wheel. The engine was from the ultimately reliable Honda stable so; all the problems that I could/should of have had with such a cheap...

Shell Optimax unleaded

Advantages: Higher performance, cleans fuel system as you drive
Disadvantages: None if you dont mind paying a little extra

...noticed are certainly not psychosematic, they are real, my engine sounds quieter and really does run smoother. Some people have commented that Shell Optimax hasnt improved anything for them and they cant see any difference over Tesco's fuel (for example) my only reply to this would be that to see any noticeable differences you would need to fill up with Optimax 4 or 5 times and resist the temptation to add £5-10 of 'cheap' fuel in between as this lessen the benefits of Optimax, cars fuel systems do get clogged with gunk and carbon over time and these can take a little time before Optimax removes them sufficiently for you to notice any differences, but when it starts to work (immediately for some people) then the improvement is very noticable.
