I have realy done it this time
Advantages: Small, easily carried
Disadvantages: no case or earphones as supplied
...Some time ago my wife bought a DVD player that came with attached TV set.
This worked for a while but recently has been breaking down. Last week it did it again, and even though the set has been taken back to the seller, the DVD portion still does not work properly. The TV part works fine.
The DVD player that I have attached to my computer is supposed to be multi region but it also has stopped playing some DVD'S (not those ones I don't get them and anyway do people really do things like that?)
So I had a rather upset wife on my hands and my ears were taking rather a beating. Once she had left the room I went online to see what could be found. Rather to my surprise I found great difficulty in getting any details from this site. So as a person in good standing (except I was sitting down) I though I should find out.
So being...

Brilliant portable DVD player
Advantages: Looks great, plays great, lots of accessories, multiregion
Disadvantages: no free headphones
...I frequently travel on the train for 3 hour journeys each way so I wanted a portable DVD player to stop me being bored rigid. I happily chose the Shinco 1731A portable DVD player for the following reasons
1) The seven inch model was small, easily portable but the colour ActiveMatrix TFT screen didn't seem too small when watching films on the train. THe screen also has a 400:1 contrast ratio giving really clear pictures.
2) I wanted a multiregion portable DVD player so I could use all formats (1-6). This DVD player also plays other formats, including DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, JPEG and Kodak Picture CD. The Shinco also has multi language/angle/subtitle capability, zoom play and programmable play and comes with a tiny remote control.
3) I wanted a portable DVD player that I could use with my TV set at home or in...

Shinco 1720A - the new love of my life.
Advantages: Metal case, very small and sleek, a sexy little beast!
Disadvantages: Case provided with player is not the best
...This was an unexpected present from my husband, and I am happy to say it's the best present I've ever had in my life!
I'd expressed a mild interest in a portable DVD player, having seen only early models. I've started staying in very basic accommodation one night a week, and so fancied a source of portable entertainment. This player exceeded all hopes!
The Shinco 1720 has a 7" screen. It's strange how the screen looks so small when you open the case, but as you watch a DVD you get 'sucked in' and completely forget that you are not watching the 42" plasma you are used to. Initially, when I heard it play, I found the sound a little tinny. I seem to have got used to this over time, but in any case the hi-fi experience using the headphones provided is completely different, and compares with a good quality home system.
This...

movies on the move!
Advantages: large screen and extensive features.
Disadvantages: more expensive than some!
...Being a lover of gadgets I had been toying with the idea of getting myself a portable DVD player for some time, however I really didn't need one as I obviously wouldn't use it at home and when on holiday or whatever I have my multimedia lap top. So just how would I convince my fiancée of the need for this gadget, easy my four year old son who gets very bored on long car journeys would just love one!
So after persuading her of this fact we set off to look for a cheap portable DVD player. The idea of getting a cheap one went out my mind completely when I saw the Shinco SDP-1250. We had agreed that we would spend no more than £100 because there were so many cheap ones out there but this had so much more going for it not least its looks.
Most of the others we had looked at were all very similar and not too pretty to look at. Their...

Shinco 868 DVD Player with built in Megadrive
Advantages: The total package with the all-region DVD player, mp3 player and best of all Megadrive CD system.
Disadvantages: 2 joypads that come with the machine are a bit clunky compared to original Megadrive joypads.
...This is a superb all-round system for anyone who is after a decent all-region DVD player, the difference with this one is that it also plays mp3 cds, video/supervideo cds and best of all it plays Megadrive games. It comes with approximately 428 licenced games (which means its completely legal) on 9 cds and comes packaged in a nice metal box also.
Upon booting up the system and loading one of the nine Megadrive cds you come to a menu (in japanese) where you can choose a game to play, simple as that. You even get two joypads to use on the Megadrive also, they appear to be Playstation shaped unlike the original Megadrive pads, but the originals ones WILL fit and work fine. People may be asking what the emulation is like on this machine, well to tell the truth no emulation is used at all, inside the machine (see below) is an actual...

Rockit's DVD
Advantages: Quite good extras
Disadvantages: All in one long episode
...Fimbles ? Smelly Jelly
I have to admit that Fimbles are not one of my favourite children?s programmes though my daughter loves it so we decided to go and get her a DVD so when we wanted to watch something on the television, she could watch it happily on the laptop ? which she enjoys doing as its mummy?s laptop and she isn?t meant to touch it!
The Fimbles are Fimbo, Florrie and Baby Pom, who all live in a lovely, colourful place called Fimble Valley. The Fimbles are cuddly hippo like creatures each with lovely colourful ?skins?. Other characters in this programme include a blue tree frog called Rockit and a mole called Roly Mo, a pink bird called Bessie and her chick Ribble. Most of the other characters are essentially large puppets except the chick who is just a great ball of fluff with eyes stuck on it, unmoving in the main...

A Golden DVD!
Advantages: entertaining, great length, good features, appealing natural comedy
Disadvantages: sorry, if you're under 12, its a no-go!
...I am a Telly Addict. I'll admit it, it's my life. What's more, I love anything that has me in stitches. So what better than to combine two of my favourite things and come up with an amazing show?! Harry Hill's TV Burps is a comedy show, presented by Harry Hill, which airs every on and off on ITV1. He also writes the script for the show too, which must result in him non-stop working. It first started in 2001 when Hill was just 37, and has been a success for the last eight years now. Each episode, Hill takes us on a journey to look back at that weeks' television, and everything comic about it. Often, there is a celebrity guest appearing in the audience-filled studio, to bring the entertainment and laughter to a peak. Now we can enjoy this magic on a DVD!
For Christmas I had asked for Harry Hill's TV Burp Gold DVD, however I did not...

Superbad DVD
Advantages: Very funny, good acting
Disadvantages: Aimed quite specifically at teenagers, quite crude humour
...his childhood penis obsession..).
The DVD includes quite a few special features, for example, deleted scenes and outtakes, as with most DVDs, and is good value for money.
Overall, if you are looking for a teen comedy and have a fun, slightly immature side, you will probably love this!...

The Notebook DVD
Advantages: Moving, beautiful love story
Disadvantages: Makes me cry!!
...Having watched this film on Channel 4 at the weekend (I have the DVD also but just had to watch it) I've decided to review it for anyone who hasn't seen it. Although, I see that a lot of people have already seen it as the UK premier on Channel 4 attracted 1 million viewers!!
The Notebook is a beautiful romance that still makes me cry after numerous viewings. It is poignant, romantic, sad, hopeful and uplifting all rolled into one.
The Notebook was actually developed from a book written by the American author Nicholas Sparks in 1996. It spent over a year as a hardcover best seller.
The film version was released in 2004. It follows the story of Noah and Allie, childhood sweethearts who eventually find each other again after years apart. The story is very cleverly told as a flashback. It begins in a modern day nursing home...

Leatherheads DVD
Advantages: Funny, George Clooney
Disadvantages: None
...almost filmed like that too, quite fast paced and uses a lot of old time props such as steam trains and really adds a good element to the film. The costumes are great as well and it really makes you lust after the wardrobe of Renee Zellweger. George Clooney plays his part extremely well too and although he is looking a bit older he still pulls off the rugged, football player look. John Kraskinsi is not as an established actor as the other too but does not seem out of his depth at all and really holds his own against the other two stars.
There are not too many bonus features in this DVD, just some deleted scenes which are quite funny in places. The film lasts for approximately 1 hour and 49 minutes and it is a PG, containing mild language and comic violence.
I would not rush to see this film again but it is funny enough, different...
