Definitely not a shipwreck of a film

...Anyone ever heard of Shipwrecked? Anyone ever wanted to be on Shipwrecked? Well now is your chance. There is a fabulous website out there called islandoo.co.uk and it has been put together to attract potential shipwreckers. It isn't just a website to get people on the show it has a really good community feel and is great for having discussions. I found out about this site when I was surfing beonscreen.co.uk but I believe most of the members are by word of mouth which is quite surprising as there are thousands of people on there. Some SEXY some STUPID

...The basic premise of this show is to stick a group of young student type people on an uninhabited island for 10 weeks and to record their stay for the purpose of TV entertainment. It's much like Survivor, Big Brother and Castaway. I personally think this show is directed/targeted at a younger audience than the aforementioned shows. Its prime audience is people of my age group (15-25) - primarily because of the age group of the contestants and because it is broadcast at 6pm on weeknights and repeated on Sunday daytime. There isn't (as far as I know) a winner as in the American Survivor series. The contestants just spend the full 10 weeks on an island and get a novelty trophy! Irritating but must-see TV

Advantages: Entertaining, compelling, good concept
Disadvantages: Lucy Masoud, sometimes frustrating - everyone else is too nice

...Shipwrecked, a series which had it's first series last year is back again with another bunch of twenty-somethings picked to live on a tropical island for 10 weeks. The group must learn to survive by going back to basics, foraging for food {though they have rations given to them}, constructing a camp and making fire. The series worked well last year though the exposure given to the people was short-lived and much like the stars of Big Brother they have pretty much all disappeared from the public eye. So how is this series going. Well I'm afraid I would have to agree with others on this subject given the fact that most of the cast have been picked as token members of society. We have one lesbian, a gay man, a punky girl, a black man, a black woman, the laddish ones, the sensitive ones, and the blonde girl - oh and some Australians...

If you're fond of sand dunes

...For those of you not familiar with the concept of the Shipwrecked it goes something like this. Channel 4 take a selection of over-zealous twenty-somethings, the majority of whom have quite obnoxious personalities and dump them on a desert island to fend for themselves for about 2 months. Had the series ended here it would probably have been more critically acclaimed but unfortunately Channel 4 insist on filming the "cast"aways' antics for the ensuing months. This is admittedly another series in the same vein as Big Brother (although pre-dating it) and for me it is just as compelling. Lowest common denominator television doesn't appeal to a large part of me. Sadly the part of me that laughs when someone slips on a banana skin has a firm grip on the TV remote and I'm fascinated. ...The nights have drawn in, it's cold outside and what better way to pass the time while waiting for your dinner to cook than to watch a bunch of idiots fight it out on a desert island, thankfully somewhere in the pacific. This is the third series of Shipwrecked, and for those of you that need an introduction, it features the young and the beautiful handpicked from ludicrous auditions (I've never actually seen them as I've obviously been doing something better at the time) so that they can have 10 weeks stranded on a desert island, and of course, inevitably 15 minutes, or 15 seconds of fame. There are 15 of these young, mostless lazy and clueless hopefuls, and this series features 'youngsters' from England, France, Italy, America and Australia. Mmmmm, yes, quite a mix... The object of the exercise is to learn how to survive...
