Rosemount Estates Shiraz Palatable, Enjoyable
Review of Rosemount Estates Australian Shiraz by
Pelenya
Advantages: Wonderful palate, full-bodied and fruity
Disadvantages: None known
...If you read my opinion about Lindeman's Shiraz, you already know that I am a lover of Shiraz wine, especially the Australian varieties.
Rosemount Estate Shiraz is one that is consistently good. It certainly has never let me down. This is always a full-bodied, rich wine and is never watery!
This wine is found is most chain supermarkets in the United States, and is also often found in small corner markets. The price is comparable with most good Australian brands of Shiraz and averages about nine dollars per bottle.
I believe that with Rosemount Estates Shiraz, you receive quite good value for your money. It is consistently good. I've never had a bottle with an "off taste." I've been drinking this product for two years or more.
Shiraz is quite good with heartier meals, such as beef or lamb. I enjoy a glass both before dinner (when...

Lindemans Lacking
Review of Lindemans Shiraz by
Pelenya
Advantages: Fruity, pleasant taste
Disadvantages: Lacks body, has watery consistency
...I love hearty red wines. One of my favorite varieties is a good Shiraz. Trying out new brands of Shiraz is adventurous, as some are absolutely heavenly. Others don't quite measure up.
On my way home from work this evening, I stopped by the local supermarket and picked up a bottle of Lindemans Shiraz. It was in the medium price range, along with two of my favorites: McGuigans and Rosemount Estates. Tonight, Lindemans was on offer at $1 off (making it $9.99 per bottle vs $10.99). I was anxious to get home, relax, and give it a try.
I must say that I have been disappointed. In comparison with some of my favorite brands of Shiraz, Lindemans seems a bit "watery." Although it has that wonderful fruity taste, it lacks the body of some of its similarly-priced competitors.
Lindemans is produced in South Eastern Australia. According...

Banrock Station Sparkling Shiraz
Review of Banrock Station Sparkling Shiraz by
steve1105
Advantages: Nice bottle Easy to open
Disadvantages: No foil on top
...I just love wines from Austrailia!!This sparkling wine is fantastic. It has a crimson red color that makes the fruity taste even more understated as a shiraz. I do recomend serving it chilled, as is recomended on the label. Don't be afraid to serve a red wine chilled! There is a few other red wines that are great chilled, but this is the first from Austrailia that passes the test. I recomend that you serve this as you would a champagne, in a flluted glass!
Some people do not enjoy or believe in a red wine chilled and to those persons I say TRY IT!!What have you got to lose?
Banrock Station is the next Best Austrailian wine and I would recomend it to all of my friends and family members. I will mention it to all of the resaraunts that I freguent!!!!...

A red wine with a nice bit of white
Review of Penny Farthing Old Vine Shiraz Viognier by
zallin
Advantages: Value, exotic perfume, lively
Disadvantages: 14.5% alc !
...Loads of us Brits love Australian wine for the loveable, forward, brash fruit nature it has brought to our national palate. Combined with easy to understand, clear labelling then it is no wonder that Aussie wine has claimed a large proportion of market share in the UK. However there are times when the Old World can teach its more modern and forward-looking New World cousins a thing or two. A wine I picked up in Tesco recently really helps to illustrate this point.
Berton Vineyards Penny Farthing Old Vines Shiraz/Viognier is actually made from a combination of a red wine (Shiraz) with a white wine (Viognier) ! This may sound bizarre but French winemakers in the Cote Rotie (literally ‘Roasted Slope’) area of the Northern Rhone Valley sometimes add a little Viognier (usually around 5% or so) to their Syrah A.K.A Shiraz, to soften the body...

Lovely LINDERMANS - BIN 50 Shiraz 2007
Review of Lindemans Shiraz by
treaclepins
Advantages: Fantastic flavour, moderate price.
Disadvantages: None if consumed in moderation.
...I like a nice glass of shiraz in the evenings, but finding one that I both like and can afford is not always easy. However, LINDEMANS Bin 50 Shiraz fits the bill perfectly (and it's fantastic with dark chocolate).
The grape:
Syrah, is a classic French grape used in the production of wine. The Syrah grape is known by the Australians as Shiraz (after the town of Shiraz where it supposedly originated).
The wine:
Bin 50 Shiraz 2007 is a full bodied, well balanced wine with plum and spice flavours. It is a medium wine - not overly sweet but certainly not a dry wine. This wine is a multi-region blend, but don't let that put you off, the fruit may be sourced from a range of wine growing regions but the blend is perfect. The wine is matured with American oak which makes it smell slightly like treacle.
Packaging:
The bottle is the usual dark...

A Red Wine for the evening
Review of McWilliams Hanwood Estate Shiraz by
hammd1974
Advantages: Fruity and smooth
Disadvantages: Can't think of one
...My parents introduced me to this wonderfully smooth Shiraz. I have never really liked drinking red wine before, but this particular Shiraz is very smooth and quaffable. This Shiraz has been described as "plum flavours of the shiraz grape, adding subtle vanilla overtones". Personally, I can't detect the "vanilla overtones" that has been described but I'm not a world expert in wine tasting, I just know what I like. The fruity taste I'm definitely aware of, which is incredibly flavoursome. It has a lovely deep red colour which is certainly not cloudy and has a lovely plumy scent to it.
This particular bottle is produce by the McWilliams Hanwood Estate in South Eastern Australia and is sold at Tesco for £6.99 a bottle or £36.99 for a case. I have done an extensive search of the internet and the only hits I have located are all Tesco based...

Give The Aussies A Run For Their Money
Review of Kendall-Jackson cabernet sauvignon-shiraz by
Pelenya
Advantages: Great taste
Disadvantages: A little pricey, somewhat high alcohol content
...If you've read any of my earlier opinions on Shiraz, you'll know that I am a big fan of this lovely red wine. Until now, I have always touted the Australian brands. Now I want to tell you about a fantastic discovery in a Californian blend.
I was shopping in a local supermarket a few weeks ago when I spotted a bottle of Kendall-Jackson Collage Cabernet Sauvignon-Shiraz wine. It was displayed in a lovely greenish-tinted bottle and a lovely maroon and gold label with the standard "Kendall-Jackson" logo. I thought to myself, "If this looks as good as it tastes, it will have to be pretty damn good."
I must say that with the very first sip, I was hooked on it's fruity yet hearty taste. This is a lovely blend of two fine red wines. It is full-bodied with a taste that stays on the tongue long after swallowing. There is no unpleasant...

A Good Aussie Red Wine
Review of Hardy's Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon by
ashford
Advantages: Moderate Price. Pleasant
Disadvantages: Not the most exciting red wine
...Australia undeniably has a growing reputation for the quality of its red wines. In particular, the area in South Australia known as the Barossa Valley, produces some fine red wines. Hardys Stamp of Australia Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon,South Eastern Australia is a good example of the genre.
It is a very consistent wine and especially gret value for money. You will probably be able to get a bottle for around 5 pounds at the likes of Sainsbury's,Waitrose and Safeway, and look out for special offers, when you might only have to pay around four pounds per bottle.
Originally,it seems the rather beefy,bramble-scented shiraz grape was utilised to fill out the thin and somehat weedy cabernet grape in Aussie. However, the blend soon captured the interest of wine lovers and nowadays the two grapes combined at the price level you will find in the UK...

A very good, everyday big brand Aussie !
Review of Jacobs Creek - Shiraz Cabernet 2003 by
zallin
Advantages: Widely available, very good value for money, moreish
Disadvantages: Slight alcohol burn from high 14% alcohol level
...Jacob’s Creek is a very well known big brand of Australian wine and a big seller in the UK’s supermarkets. I decided to see what all the fuss was about and purchased a bottle of Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Cabernet, vintage 2004, from a local supermarket for £4 (full price was £5) to sup at leisure. It is a classic Australian blend of two red grapes, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, which works very well as the fleshy fruitiness of the Shiraz compliments the tannins and acidity provided by Cabernet Sauvignon to give a nicely balanced and structured wine.
The wine itself had a simple and direct classic white label and by modern Australian standards was unusual as it was sealed by a cork rather than a screwcap (one for lovers of classic wine closures !). I wonder if the 2005 vintage has converted to screwcap ?
Swirling the wine around...

A Reliable and Consistant Wine
Review of Oxford Landing Cabernet Shiraz by
ashford
Advantages: Goes well with Red Meat Dishes. Easily Found.
Disadvantages: Not Many
...Oxford Landing Cabernet Shiraz is produced by the Yalumba Wine Company at their vineyards alongside the famous Murray River. Here the soil is rich, the skies blue and the air clean and unpolluted whilst Yalumba is undeniably in the forefront of premium wine production in Australia. It is Australia's oldest family-owned winery having been established back in 1849 by Samuel Smith from Dorset,England. It has huge plantings of Shiraz, and Chardonnay,Cabernet, and Sauvignon Blanc.Today this group embraces some of the best known of Australian wines on the international market.
The Shiraz from Oxford Landing is widely available and I believe most of the larger supermarkets stock it as well as major off licences. This wine is vibrant, deep, crimson in colour whilst red berry and mint aromas on the nose are complexed with toasted vanilla and oak...
