Catalogue Shop

Advantages: Easy to do, choose at leisure.
Disadvantages: None

...Argos is unique; it is a unique way to buy goods. Whereas in any major department store you get to browse the shop and touch the fabric, with Argos you get to sit in the comfort of your own home and choose it from a catalogue, similar to the way you would choose goods through mail order. I have shopped at Argos for as long as I can remember and I once worked there from a few months while I was between jobs. I find Argos to be fair priced and very competitive and recommend the store to any one. Argos is the UK?s largest non-food retail chain. There are over 525 stores, 23,000 employees and sales of over 3 billion pounds. How to buy something at Argos ? The traditional way? Take a catalogue from many on offer: Over a two hundred pages of furniture, electrical goods, toys and bikes, rings and jewellery, DIY, sports...

Review of Argos (Shop)

The original catalogue shop

Advantages: Excellent catalogue, Good products, Easy refunds!
Disadvantages: PRICEY! long queues, buy in the shop.

...pretty useful... no more staying in just to get your TV! When the item comes you'll have to sign for it, not a problem if you can write! THE CATALOGUES After Argos' recent success they have branched out, into clothes of all things. Quite sensibly, unlike Asda (George clothing), Argos did not make their own brand, but sell other brands at cheap prices. Can't be bad! But watch out when catalogue shopping for clothes, more often than not they don't fit. The other catalogue is the bog standard Argos catalogue. Not only do they sell electronics, but also sofas and tables etc... REFUNDS One of the best aspects of Argos, if it is within 16 days you can get a full refund. If not, argue a bit and you still will! STORES The stores are fine, my favourite feature are the machines which tell you if the product is in stock. There can be...

THE Premier Home shopping Catalogue

Advantages: good quality clothing, fantastic customer service,
Disadvantages: expensive APR on flexible account

...I am really impressed with the Next Directory. I have been using it now for about 4 years and during that time I have found that the quality of clothing and customer service is the best around. Next was formed in 1981 soon selling women’s, men’s’ and children’s clothing. The next Directory was launched in 1988 and it won House Beautiful’s Mail Order Master Award in 2000. The Next Directory is a brilliant catalogue. It cost £3.00 but it is worth for a hard backed catalogue that will keep its appearance for the whole season. Each section has a dividing page so that you can quickly get to the section you want. Next bring out two catalogues a year – Spring/Summer and Winter/Autumn. You get supplements throughout the year for interiors/summer/Christmas etc. The catalogue is divided into sections...

Argos my local catalogue shop

Advantages: Local with a wide range of stock
Disadvantages: none

...Not very far from my home, just 2 minutes walk is my local Argos. Argos for the uninitiated is a catalogue store. You go in look through a catalogue and order by quoting the number. Having paid at the till you wait at your collection point for your purchases to appear. This is generally an efficient system which reduces shop lifting and so should reduce prices. Prices at argos are not overly expensive but not big bargains. The products sold at Argos can easily be bought else where. Argos is however very convenient. You can check to see if what you want is in stock. If it is not available in your local store you can check if it is available in other stores. Argos seem to stock every thing. Well not food but most other types of products. Jewellery, toys, electrical products, household ware, things for the garden they even sell...

A Short History of Catalogue Shopping

Advantages: A Little Bit of Information for those entering the November 2003 Contest
Disadvantages: You might not give a d*** about catalogues!

...As the November contest draws to a close, I thought you all might be interested in a bit of information regarding the history of the mail order catalogue. Contrary to popular belief, the first mail order catalogue wasn?t actually the Sears Catalogue. In fact, apparently the idea of mail ordering is an invention of the Europeans and not the North Americans at all. One source told me that one Aldus Manutius of Venice produced the first mail order catalogue in 1498. His mail-order offerings included 15 books that he had published. The Germans and French also had their hands in the mail order business as early as the 16th century. But the real popularity of mail ordering and long-distance purchasing only really took hold in the late 19th century when one A.M. Ward - later to be know as Montgomery Ward - put out a mail order...

Studio - Excellent Catalogue / Website

Advantages: Loads of gift ideas & cheaper than most shops
Disadvantages: Sometimes delivery can take a long time

...A family member told me about this catalogue just before Christmas so I thought I would take a look & I was very impressed witht he range of products they do ranging from little nic naks to complete bedroom furniture etc. It was a ideal little catalogue fo me to go through just before Chrsitmas as it gave me loads of ideas for little presents that I could buy for only a few pounds & it had a excellent selection of Christmas cards & wrapping paper at a fraction of the cost of the high street. The best thing about this site/catalogue is the prices, most items are a lot cheaper than you will find in shops like Argos etc, for example I have just purchased a chest of drawers from them, it cost £40, for a similar product in Argos was nearly £75, so I had a massive saving & Im also currently waiting for some curtains to arrive which on all...

More catalogue shopping...

Advantages: Shop at home, can pay off over period of time, good range of sizes
Disadvantages: Delivery time

...My mum has been a customer of Oxendales for ages, although she rarely orders anything, & I rarely do either, mainly as I felt the clothing was geared more towards my mum's age range than mine, no offence! However, leafing through the catalogue recently I noticed that there were a great deal of items that I could imagine myself wearing, all reasonably priced, so I went armed with mum's details to order myself some clothes. The website itself is easy to navigate. You can choose by either browsing categories or by keying in item numbers from the main catalogue or smaller specialized catalogues that you receive through the post periodically. The homepage is eye catching, with a lot of earthy purple colours, I'm assuming as this is the autumn catalogue, and has pictures of some of the clothes, as well as some offers. There is also...

studio cards and gifts catalogue

Advantages: plenty of choice, you get bargains.
Disadvantages: can take a while to send personalised items sometimes

...i've been getting studio cards and gifts catalogue for about 3 years now. It's a catalogue that sells all sorts of things. for example:- cards wrapping paper stationery Toys household items alcohol Sweets It's a well packed catalogue, which is colourful and delivered free to your door. About twice a year they send youa new catalogue, which is packed full. There are so many to choose from. They are joined with ace catalogue, who sells exactly the same items as studio. Prices are reasonable in the catalogue, and you get...

DO NOT SHOP WITH OLI

Advantages: refund
Disadvantages: customer service/care - poor quality clothes

...oli is the worst shopping experience ever, the customer service is non existant, I have found myself hanging up on them a few times because they either have no clue, lying to me or rude and don't give a damn! i am so angry and even though the clothes on the website are all lovely i will not be shopping with them ever again once is enough! i ordered a dress from the internet and waited for it to come as it stated it would be a next day delivery, it didnt come and when i called them there was a problem with the money as the card i had used was not registered to the delivery address, the letter telling me this arrived a week later! i agreed to get it delivered to the address that the card was registered to, i had to then ring up a couple of times to check on it and found out the money was still not released! but they had put me to...

The catalogue shop online

Advantages: Very quick to locate the item you need and the reservation facility
Disadvantages: A lot to look at on screen sometimes made it a bit confusing

...do. The website loads very quickly and I found this to happen on all the pages that I loaded. When you reach the homepage, it looks quite straight forward with it's blue header design at the top and in there you can find your nearest shop, contact customer services, or to log in and register. The thing I like most is right at the top in big letters is the option, search. This is very useful if you know the catalogue number otherwise it's probably no quicker for you to find the item, but at least the option is there, it easy to see and clear. To the left of the homepage, you will find another way of finding what you want. Here there are headings for all the catergorised stock and all you do is click on the heading that best suits your needs. If you scroll down to the bottom, you find all the small print, how to pay, returns...
