Munich - A Beautiful Bavarian
Advantages: Beautiful City, Great Food, Wonderful Museums, Close to Alps
Disadvantages: Too Many Tourists In The Summer
...of these parades culminate in a fabulous assembly at the Marienplatz. This may be beginning to sound a little too kitsch, or too romantic, as though it were all the product of some tourism board's feverish imagination, but it isn't. The people of Munich, as elsewhere in this part of the world, really do seem to live their own history, it feels relevant, and somehow, honouring their traditions in this way doesn't seem in any way foolish.
SHOPPING: Extending out from the Marienplatz in all directions is Munich's city centre, which hosts a fabulous assortment of specialty shops, boutiques, department stores and restaurants, as well as the ubiquitous bakeries and beer-halls. There are also a large number of antique dealers and antiquarian booksellers, as well as several excellent flea markets, mostly held on weekends. The 'Antikpalast', a little...

The Munich massacre - its aftermath, as noted by Spielberg
Advantages: Incredibly powerful drama in places
Disadvantages: Takes too long to get anywhere
...Munich is a poignant and dramatic, slow-moving Spielberg film that has at its core the effects and fallout from the 1972 Munich Olympic Games massacre. Members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and eventually killed by a group known as Black September, reported to have ties to a militant group linked to the Fatah organisation.
The film opens with some graphic scenes showing the massacre within the first five or ten minutes, before Spielberg introduces us to the squad of assassins who then plan to hunt down 11 Black September members and kill them as revenge.
It is a very suspenseful and dramatic film, with patience needed throughout. Do not expect a fast paced tense thriller, because that's not what this is about. It's a serious drama, with the suspense the main focal point, and the emotions that the squad must go...

Probably the best and also worst hostel in Munich
Advantages: No kerfew, breakfasts, cheap bar, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Its not very clean
...a general idea.
When you get to the front of the que a feast greats you, aswell as the general cereal and toast options there are also a variety of cold meats, cheeses, and breads, aswell as eggs, and pate. Accompanying this is good coffee or tea and two types of juice. After a night of German excess this is the perfect antidote.
The resturant doubles as a bar in the evening with a small beer garden. The bar staff are friendly and obviously speak very good English, and they offer their own draught beer aswell as Dunkels from a bottle. It is alot cheaper than you will find anywhere else in Munich, especially if you can hold on to the rather flimsy wristband that is handed to you when you check in. This will allow you happy hour drinking and means you can get a full stein for about 4.50 euros, compared to the average of 7 euros in the rest...

Munich - What Happened Next.....
Advantages: Thought Provoking
Disadvantages: Very long
...Early in the morning of the 5th September 1972, Palestinian terrorists broke into the athlete's village at the Munich Olympics. The terrorist group known as Black September stormed the Israeli apartments, took 9 hostages, and shot two men dead. Whilst the games went on around them, the terrorists demanded the release of hundreds of prisoners from Israeli jails as well as the release of two Germans being held in Germany. Israel refused to bend to the demands and later that night the remaining hostages were all killed in a bungled rescue bid held at Munich airport.
This event happened many years before I was born, but the shock of it has meant that it has never been forgotten. I first became aware of the events of that night whilst watching the brilliant documentary, 'One Day in September' that I saw on a flight to South Africa. Other...

Munich Walk Tour
Advantages: one of the must-see cities in Germany
Disadvantages: none really
...Last summer I was in Munich to see an art exhibition. I didn´t have any plans for the afternoon and when I saw a leaflet ´Munich Walk Tours in English´, (from May 17th to August 31st daily 10:45 am and 3:00 pm, from Sept. 1st to Oct. 31st daily 10:45, meeting point in front of the town hall entrance under the Glockenspiel on Marienplatz, 9 Euro, under 26 years 8 Euro, children under 14 with an adult free), I thought, why not? Why not find out what foreigners tell foreigners about Munich?
Still on the Marienplatz the guide, a young woman from Australia started with a survey over the history of Munich from the year it was officially founded up to today and covered 800 years in about 10 minutes. Our tour wasn´t specified as a historical tour, it was just a general introduction, but we heard more about the reign of the Royal Family...

Vegetarian Delight for a Munich Night
Advantages: Good vegetarian food in a nice atmosphere
Disadvantages: Some dishes need improvement; service can be slow
...You can survive as a vegetarian in Bavaria. Thanks to Munich's Prinz Myshkin, you can even eat out.
*** Restaurant Review ***
Located in Munich's historic center, a short walk from both Marienplatz and Sendlinger Tor, Prinz Myshkin offers an extensive, all-vegetarian menu in an architecturally impressive setting of vaulted ceilings and open spaces. Prinz Myshkin's ambitious attitude towards vegetarian cuisine is refreshing in a city so often characterized by the stereotypical wurst. The cuisine is primarily comfort-based and while Italian and Indian influences obviously dominate here, Prinz Myshkin's chefs make an effort to showcase vegetarian dishes from other ethnic cuisines as well. Mexican, Greek, Thai, and, oh yes, even German specialties all appear on the lengthy menu (available in English) and on the daily...

Everton 3 Bayern Munich 1 - 1985 - DVD Review
Advantages: Re live a glorious European semi-final from the 80's
Disadvantages: It makes you sad we aren't this good anymore!
...EUROPEAN CUP WINNERS' CUP SEMI-FINAL - 2ND LEG
Wednesday 24th April 1985 Goodison Park, Liverpool, England.
Everton (0) 3 v's Bayern Munich (1) 1
COST = I bought it for around £4.99 + postage from Amazon. Shop around, there are a number of different websites that will offer a good deal on football DVD's. The Everton club shop, accessible via the website www.evertonfc.co.uk will also sell the DVD, but they have released a better one, which also includes the Final.
EVERTON, still one of English football's most decorated Football Clubs, formed in 1878 In Liverpool, have a rich history and tradition in the game. The club have had many ups and downs, as have I watching them, but somehow sit as the 4th most successful English club with 9 league titles + 1 old division 2 title, 5 F.A. Cup successes, 9 Charity Shield successes...

The Munich Viktualienmarkt is a great
Advantages: good purchase possibilities, very large selection of fresh fruit and vegetable
Disadvantages: on sunny days, particularly in the summer, very full
...I love my Munich much and decided to begin a report row over Munich in which I describe the individual high points of this beautiful city. That would blow up the framework in only one report absolutely. And in such a way it concerns today the resident of Munich Viktualienmarkt:
On 2 May 1807 King Max I. that Marienplatz had become too small as market for grain and other agricultural products. He instructed therefore that a part of the market between "Heiliggeistkirche" and "Frauenstraße" was to be shifted. The "Benefizhäuser of Heiliggeist", standing there, which had acquired the city, was torn off, so that a large place could develop. Thus the vegetable market got its own place, which was called first only market place. Only the word "Viktualien" was very many later used. Viktualien (victualia) - by the way like F spoken - is latin...

Munich Airport MUC
Advantages: Excellent gateway to the Bavaria
Disadvantages: Huge, impersonal Airport, which is still under construction
...I arrived on the Dutch National carrier KLM and was quite impressed with our arrival off 24L via the inner taxiway and directly onto the airbridge..quite impressive, from touchdown to unloading was about 4 mins.....
The Airport was quite large, and is in the centre of a Parallell Runway system, very long terminal buildings lead to a maze of corridoors and escalators, however, my arrival was well handled and within 12 mins of landing we were through passport control with baggage and being greeted by our friends from Bavaria
<br>
on our return we got the Train to Munich Marionplatz and watched the Glochenspeil, had lunch at the Lowenbrauhaus and caught the S Bahn to the Airport...
KLM Check in was a bit hampered, on presentation of my KLM frequent flyer card the system went haywire and closed down, this took some 15 mins to...

Top of the shops.............
Advantages: see above
Disadvantages: see above
...Advantages: Loads of stuff available, good prices
Disadvantages: can get busy at christmas time so much so people abandon their shopping
I am a huge Asda fan, it's where I do most of my shopping and I know where everything is which makes it easier when dragging 3 kiddies along with you!
In my local Asda we have a photo centre, cafe, George, electricals, homewear, toys, bakery, pizzaria, rottisary (chicken place lol), fresh meats counter and all the usual foody aisles plus we have a petrol station, cash machines and bus stop. It's the largest shopping store we have although we do have a Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, Co-Op, Farm Foods and Iceland.
I have never had a bad experience with Asda and the stock is usually replenished quite quickly! They have such a huge range that I know I can do my weekly shop and more there.
Everything...
