SHURE to impress
Advantages: very good sound across the range
Disadvantages: A bit tinny with guitar recordings
...This is a lovely little mic ideal for home recording. I'm not gonna bore you with the spec, but rather how does the recording quality sounds. Well while its obviously not up there with condensor mic's its a good solid choice for people who are recording voice and guitars on a home recording system.
only problem I have encountered is the guitar sounds a bit tinny when I use this mic. I know I can tweek this through the mixing desk, but I own a beautiful Yamaha acoustic and I want its full resonance to be captured without comprimising the sound through digital mixing. Essentially this is not a major problem with the SHURE SM58 but I guess highlights the reason behind paying that bit more for a SHURE rather than going for a cheaper alternative.
Another note is I've suffered hardley any feedback with this mic, which is good news when...

Shure thing
Advantages: Robust
Disadvantages: Does not give the user ability to sing
...I have been using the same SM58 for nearly 10 years (and even then it wasn't brand new) in that time it has been subjected to all manner of phlegm, drunken (and un-requested) guest vocalists, alcohol spills and cigarette smoke and it still works beautifully. THE mic of choice for live performances, it has a great sound and is very durable. Admittedly it now has a slightly duller sound than the SM58 recently purchased by the guitarist in the band. but until the day it is broken beyond repair or lost I will remain faithfull to it - and would rush straight out to buy a new one. Value for money, quality, reliability the Shure SM58 has all of these qualities in spades. A must have for any serious musician...

Shure SM58 Microphone? Let's rock!
Advantages: Solidly made, excellent sound.
Disadvantages: Doesn't come with a record deal
...I was using Shure microphones in bands back in 1972 and they were noticeably tough and durable with their steel bodies. They had a great reputation even then although how good they sounded in the loud rock bands I was in is a matter best left to history.
'Ziggeeeeeeeee - plaaaaaaaaaaayed gui- tar-ar-arrrrrr!'
Without the need for messing around with batteries like you'd get with a mike requiring an active power source or ghost power off a mixer, this is plug-and-go simplicity. It just works really well and requires no servicing or fussing about with.
The SM57 is the uni-directional model shaped like a tube. This is the one shaped like a lollipop which means a lot to me because my mother was a lollipop lady. By that I mean that she had a long thin body and a big sticky head.
The SM58 gives a lovely clear recording that puts...

These sound good, to be Shure!
Advantages: Not expensive, crisp sound.
Disadvantages: Bit fiddly at first
...Shure SE110
Sound Isolating Earphones
~~Background~~
I have been meaning to buy some 'in ear' earphones for some time for use with my iPod, especially for use when going on walks or bike rides. I have headphones which are fine for home use, but find when outside, external noise spoils my enjoyment.
So I had a budget (less than £100) and I knew that I wanted in ear phones, and I did not want 'bass driven' earphones, as so many are.
I should explain before I go any further what I mean by 'in ear' earphones, as all earphones are in ear in one way or another.
The standard iPod earphones 'sit' just inside the ear; are one fit, and often get loose, or fit unevenly (as we all have slightly different ear sizes), they do not reduce or cancel out external noise.
This applies to most standard earphones. 'In ear' earphones sit...

Shure ear Buds
Advantages: Good sound quality, good product support
Disadvantages: a bit fiddly to fit at first
...way to get a perfect fit is to go to an hearing aid specialist and have moulds taken of the ear cavity into which thses units can be fitted. Shure actually reccommend this for a perfect fit. They also supply a number of differant sizes of ear plug to fit onto the speaker stem so try all sizes until a nice fit is achieved. These rubber plugs do tend to get a little dirty with a lot of use but can be cleaned with a weak soapy solution.
Overall a brilliant earphone with excellent sound qualities although fitting into the ear can be a bit of a struggle but can be achieved with practice.Comes with a handy zip pouch to keep them safe too...

A sure-fire bet with Shure SM 58 LC mic!
Advantages: Great professional sounding mike for under £100
Disadvantages: Its only disadvantage is its not the wireless version for this price ;-)
...~~~The product itself~~~
The product itself is a shure SM 58 LC professional microphone for vocal singing.
~~~Make & model~~~
It is one of the most recognisable microphone's on the market with its graphite grey body and dull silver head. It comes complete with a mike stand holder and a soft case, as well as the box it is supplied with. I purposely bought this model without the on/off switch as a friend told me he had some trouble with a switch on a Shure, (although it was after ten years of solid use with a hired pa system). It is availabe to buy with an on/off switch though if that's what you prefer.
~~~Sound Quality~~~
Fantastic. I've been complimented so many times on how good a sound i get out of this mic. I plugged her in and off she went, no feedback, crisp clear sound, in fact she was so good i vowed to cherish her...

Opinion Of The Shure SM 58 Microphone
Advantages: Excellent Quality
Disadvantages: Heavy so don't try throwing it into the audience
...The Shure SM58 is one of the best made close vocal microphones in existence. It is quite heavy but very durable with a tungsten steel shaft coated in plastic to give it good grip.
The Shure series of microphones have been going for years and are well know for their reliability. All the super groups have used them at some point. I still see people using cheap plastic rubbish. The Shure is a dynamic omnidirectional microphone which only picks up your voice and not any background noise. It is well shielded so that it is a good choice for close vocals.
All in all a great piece of equipment....

Shure E2 Sound Isolating In Ear Headphones
Advantages: Great sound, snug fit
Disadvantages: Lacking in Bass
...Shure are well known for their quality earphones so was the obvious choice in looking for a replacement to Apple's Ipod earphones.
Are the impressive?
Well they are in a number of ways. Firstly the sound offers great clarity you can really hear every sound. Also, they really are sound isolating, you cannot hear anything once these are in your ears. Beware of crossing the road as you won't hear a juggernaut from a foot away!!
The only downfall is the lack of bass and aren't loud enough for my taste (the loudness may be down to Ipod rather than the earphones). Overall even though the bass isn't deep enough they do offer very good sound quality.
These earphones come with 18 different sleeves so you can find the optimum fit. You may have to play around with these sleeves to find the best fit but once you do they are absolutely...

Phones that make your tongue rattle with bass!
Advantages: Impeccable sound quality, great bass
Disadvantages: May not fit your ear
...Most of us music lovers are always looking for better headphones that, don?t slowly edge their way out of your ears, that stop outside noise from coming in and disrupting everything like when your sitting on the tube and you have to turn up the volume when the train is moving but once it stops everyone looks at you because your music is so loud!!
I?ve used small, cheap and awful headphones most my life and I thought less than a year ago that I would spoil myself and buy a better set. So after lots of searching on the internet, and looking at hat friends have i came to the decision of buying the Shure E102?s (I later bought the Shure E2?s, but that another story).
I was attracted to these because of their interesting shape, and their price (the more money, the better I thought). So I bought them, for around 60 pounds. Got home...
