Shuttle shines

Advantages: comfort, acceleration, spacious
Disadvantages: fuel consumption

...Having road tested 8 MPVs inside a week, I was fast despairing of finding that elusive vehicle that could offer me space for my growing family and performance. My Honda Shuttle test drive was to change all that. She came out of the blocks like a thoroughbred, immediately I was aware of the power of that mighty 2.3 litre engine. However, it was not just performance that I became instantly aware of, this car floated effortlessly over the terrain like an ocean liner. The all-round visibility and lofty driver position made me feel king of the road. However, there were yet more treat in store, because the acceleration both at the traffic lights and at cruising was sensational. It made me mindful of my old XR3i, as you could feel the power forcing you on. All Shuttles are automatic, and the automatic changing is just a dream. My only...

all aboard the shuttle

Advantages: small, impressive cooling system, no slowdown
Disadvantages: only 1 hard drive, no on board vga

...of the motherboard which is around 40cm in length and 25-30 in height. So a shuttle would allow a computer user to sacrifice their big tower for 2/3 more space. Now back in the day a few years ago this would be a space sacrifice aswell as a power sacrifice. But seeing as technology is contiually advancing this is certainly not the case anymore as they can compete with the best atx computers on the market if they use the same components. The shuttle is also a good companion to have if you're travelling and prefer to not use a laptop to play games. This means that on places like trains it is not possible to play games but in hotel rooms or homes abroad you will be able to plug it into the tv if your graphics card features tv out capabilities. This means you can watch your divx collection abroad when you return to the hotel room drunk or play a little fifa...

Shuttle - ickle PC

Advantages: small, cheap, fast
Disadvantages: hard to work on, gets too hot, noisy

...be a more effective way of keeping this computer cool. I have had a few troubles with it though. The onboard network card failed twice. The trouble is, because the computer is so small, Shuttle only went and put the chipset very close to where the processor is. It was so close that twice it melted! Having said that, this was when I had the fans stopping and starting and now everything seems a lot more healthy and i dont get 75 degree CPU temps. Having to send back the motherboard twice to the place where I bought it (good ol' gemma.co.uk), I think i have become a bit of an expert in taking it apart. Taking the motherboard out of the case is a little tricky as one end of it catches on the case as it has all the sockets. It is also a little bit fiddly putting it back in. Once its in place and screwed down its not too bad. With any...

Shuttle Carry bag

Advantages: makes it easy to transport the computer, slash proof
Disadvantages: not stain proof

...This bag is designed for the mini computers made by Shuttle. Size: The bag is 36cm long, 23 cm wide and 19.5 cm high. Compatibility: It is just the right size to fit the following models of Shuttle's tiny computers: SV24, SV25, SS50C, SS51G, SV51F, SB51G, SS40G, SS40F, SK41G, SN41G2 iuse it with my Shuttle SS51G and its perfect as it's made this with and other models in mind. Appearance: The carry case is made out of a shiny plastic material that is slash proof. This is great if you have to go from the car to the office or whether in the rain as you can ensure the computer wont get wet. I would say its not water proof so dont go walking around with it in the rain :) The bag is silver and black and features the Shuttle logo on the front flap. Under this is where a zip is to ensure the bag is done up securely. The front...

Shuttle remote control

Advantages: saves time, ideal for turning your computer into a TV
Disadvantages: makes you lazy

...This remote control is ideal for the most lazy shuttle users or for people who want their shuttle to be more like a TV. The shuttle mini computers have been designed in mind for computer game players who like to carry about their computers to different venues but also people who want computers to form a part of their home entertainment system. This includes linking up the shuttle computer with their TV, DVD player, skybox and to be able to record stuff off the TV directly onto the computer. The remote control is wireless and it talks to the USB receiver module so you can happily operate the 19 keys on the remote control. Features = * System power off control - turn off your computer without getting out of your chair! Its like the stand-by button you get on TV remote controls though there is a BUT. The power button can only...

Shuttle Security Kit

Advantages: stops people nicking your computer.
Disadvantages: has to be fixed to the computer

...There are times when you might want to stop your computer being stolen. This device is probably best suited to when you go to a big LAN event to play computer games. Trouble is, there maybe so many people with their computer, it may make your tiny and portable shuttle an easy target for theives. Security In comes the shuttle safety lock. This lock is very similar to the sort of locks that can be used on laptops to stop them going astray. The shuttle PF13 is made out of a heavy duty stainless cable. This will stop all thieves who are mere opportunists. Although it is easy enough with the right tools to hack your way through the cable, doing so will bring attention to what the thief is up to and with any luck all nicking is prevented. If you are really into high security, you might as well either not bother taking the computer...

Shuttle Colour Case Cover

Advantages: Makes the computer look prettier
Disadvantages: only fits Shuttle computers

...The PF12B is a blue coloured case cover for the Shuttle mini computer. It replaces the aluminum case cover for a painted one to make the computer look individualistic and interesting. It is used to customise the look of the computer. It is a product that will only be of interest for people who already own a Shuttle computer so it will not fit any computers that Shuttle have not made. This case cover is used in conjuction with what is known as modding a computer case. Why mod? There is a big growth in people modding their computers. I would say it is mostly young blokes who see their computers in the same way as many guys see their cars. It is something that just needs to be "garyed up"! A computer nowadays for these people is not only a tool and a games machine but it is something to be decorated. Unfortunately...

Shuttle XPCs are the way forward

Advantages: Compact, powerful, fairly quiet, stylish
Disadvantages: Quality Control needs improving

...-known manufacturers that now build this sort of PC, but Shuttle were one of the pioneers and have possibily been doing it the longest, deservedly winning many awards for their sleek designs and well-integrated technical components. For me, Shuttle was the brand to go with at the outset. ::: Size vs Cooling ::: Measuring a mere 210mm x 220mm x 340mm (height x width x length), it is hard to imagine how so much computing grunt can be squeezed into such a small space. Most PCs you see advertised by the 'big' name players (Dell, HP, Packard, etc.) are large boxes with ever more fanciful facias to tempt the buyer. The reason they are so large is mainly due to their cooling requirements: faster PCs get hotter quicker, so the more air you can circulate in the 'box' bit of the PC, generally the cooler it will run. This particular Shuttle manages to keep...

Review of Shuttle XPC P 8100G

Shuttle proves that form doesn't kill function.

Advantages: Form, function, auesthetic appeal. Beauty.
Disadvantages: Can't be expanded greatly, can get hot.

...It's a funny thing, beauty. It's even funnier to find beauty and technology intermingled - especially in the PC market. Sure, we've got the 'l33t' gamer's tarted up beige box, complete with dragon motifs and nauseating blue lights. But where's the style? When people think style and computers, they think Apple. I'd urge these people to think again. When I carefully teased my Shuttle XPC SB83G5M from it's box, unwrapped it and set it on my desk, I knew I'd found a winner. Like I said, it's a funny thing when you finally find something that isn't just good, but by far away outstanding. It's like when you get that new phone, or you've just set your hands on your new iPod. That transparent plastic film you insist keeping on the front for as long as possible - we've all done it. The first scratch I got on my Shuttle upset me, to have...
