I have been taking this pill for several months and would like to add my experiences, both positive and negative, in the hope that these will offer assistance to anyone currently weighing up the pros and cons of Microgynon 30. Firstly, please note that Microgynon 30 is not the first oral contraceptive I have taken. The product itself is a small white plastic strip that has roughly the same dimensions as a matchstick. It is called Implanon and is a subdermal (under the skin) implant fitted by a doctor. It works by releasing progestin which stops ovulation. It releases this steadily over 3 years at which point the implant is removed as it no longer functions as a contraceptive. I decided to try this method of contraception as I had suffered quite badly from side effects from various contraceptive pills. I was affected by mood swings to a great extent when using these pills and was told that Implanon should not cause me to have mood swings. Yasmin - Troublesome Side-Effects

Advantages: It works as a contraceptive, regulates periods fine.
Disadvantages: Has some bad side-effects, such as long-lasting headaches

I was quite happy to try Yasmin at first, my doctor told me it was one of the "less strong" contraceptive pills you can take. I was on Microgynon before that so I guess it is a step down. During the first few days of taking Yasmin I noticed that I was starting to get some twinging headaches - I don't generally tend to get headaches so I put it down being a side-effect of Yasmin. ...I took Dianette as Mircrogynon had made my bad skin even worse. After taking it for 3 months, my period pain was slightly less but not much, and I still had the other side effects of periods. My skin cleared up completely and my skin and hair were much less oily. After 6 months I started getting awful mood swings and depression, and then, the most awful migraines. I felt sick and lethargic with such bad back, head and neck pain I was scared something was seriously wrong with me. I didn't know about the link between dianette and migraines so kept taking them. Advantages: Stops you smoking without replacing the nicotine with nicotine

FINISH THE COURSE- even if you think you have beaten the craven for a puff- you probably have not. This is the whole reason the course is conducted over a 3 month period.
