...Sydney General Before I went to Australia I had this image in my head of the Sydney Opera and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, this was the first thing I thought about when I thought of Australia, so the first thing I did when I arrived was drive down to see it for myself! Sydney Tower provides this quite nicely in the form of an observation deck at 819 feet (250m) up. The tower stretches a total of 1000 feet (304m) with the space above the people deck occupied by a 162 000 litre water tank that steadies the building on windy days and topped off with an antenna. A popular attraction for tourists, the tower has 3 main sections: 1. THE TOWER ITSELF You can go up the tower, which is good. Not much point in spending $25 million US and 6 years building something that tall if you can't charge people for going up it. Children will love the ferries that operate in Sydney harbour that make 'getting there' part of the fun of a good day out. The best views of the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge can be seen from the ferry from double bay! The Opera House is an amazing sight, but we found it prety inaccessible with a buggy. nearby there is the Rocks which on Saturday and Sunday is home to a fantastic craft market where you can but all sorts of goodies at great prices. Eating out is cheap, by UK standards, and there are so many places to choose from - buy a copy of 'Cheap Eats' which lists pretty much every restaurant in Sydney worth going to (not just the cheap ones). we particularly enjoyed Doyle's Fish Restaurant at Watsons Bay, Limoncello in Double Bay...

I tried Expedia, last minute, and the other usual culprits, but as I knew nothing of Australia's Geography, I was very much in the dark about what to chose. The University I visited was in a Sydney Suburb called North Ryde, and it was Google that came up trumps directing me to the four vacation outlets in the area. Only problem was, being that far away from away from home, firstly I wanted High Speed Internet Access and an indoor, or outdoor heated pool. ...The home of Lindt in Sydney is the Lindt Concept Store and Café on Martin Place. As far as I can make out, the 'concept' involved is 'chocolate, chocolate and a bit more chocolate'. The first of its kind, Lindt chose Australia for the outlet as it's the quickest growing market for chocolate in the world. Though they won't admit to it, I also think it's to do with the fact that native-Australian chocolate is dubious to say the least. Cadbury's here is no Cadbury's I'm familiar with, and so demand for the yumminess that is Lindt is increased. In a country that is fiercely proud of home grown / made / packaged items, it takes a strong company to sell exclusively imported goodies.
