...For those who have been keeping up with my Mandarin Oriental exploits then this is the third installment. Today I shall review one of Singapore?s finest five star hotels and let you into the world of Mandarin Oriental Singapore. I have stayed at a variety of hotels in Singapore but none have come as close to the perfect stay that you get at MO. I last stayed here in 2007 when the hotel was just branded as The Oriental, however Mandarin Oriental have since renamed the property under their full brand, just to make you aware in case you read reviews on either of the properties, they are in fact the same. Just look for the ?fan? logo of the company. I was staying in Singapore in between a trip from Malaysia to Australia and given my love for MO I knew this would be a good choice. Singapore - the Hotel 81 chain

Advantages: Cheap, clean and safe
Disadvantages: Not for the faint-hearted if you don't like the real world

...gently uphill for about 50m to the start of a whole collection of sidewalk cafes and a variety of restaurants. By 6pm people were gathering outside for a drink so I decided to do the same and sat down and ordered a beer. I had just visited a cash point (ATM) which was only a 150 yds along the main road at the top. Buses poured along this road but I never tried them - they were probably very efficient and super cheap - all mass transportation is in Singapore, including the excellent Metro system. This accolade also includes Hotel Certification. Every hotel is rigorously inspected by their equivelent of the Tourist Board and high standards are required. If your proposed hotel is billed as 2-star - then that is exactly what it is. There are no doss-houses any more with a star rating. The 81 Geyland is 3*** and yes - that is what it is...

Great Value 3-Star Hotel

Advantages: Highly recommended 3-star Dublin hotel handy for the city centre

...Bewley's Hotel in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, is arguably the best value 3-star Dublin hotel within spitting distance of the city centre. At a set price of a mere Euro109 per room per night (due to increase to Euro119 from 1st April 2008) Bewley's Ballsbridge is extremely good value for money. The maximum number of guests per room is two. Handy, Well Located 3 Star Hotel

Advantages: Well located 3 Star budget hotel. Fairly cheap by Dublin standards.
Disadvantages: Not a lot!

...The Mespil Hotel is located on the Royal Canal on Mespil Road in Ballsbridge, only about 15 minutes walk from St. Stephen's Green and Grafton Street (the two main shopping areas of the city) and about 20 minutes from O'Connell Street and the Temple Bar area. In a previous incarnation the Mespil was a large office block that housed the Irish Blood Transfusion Service. The transformation to a hotel took place in the early 1990's, and has been achieved successfully. (I was dubious when I first heard of the proposal!) There's nothing special about the Mespil, but at in or around Euro100 per night, and with some special deals on offer if you book over the Internet, it would be a good, comfortable, 3 star hotel budget hotel for anyone either on a business trip or a short weekend break to Dublin. My favourite Singapore hotel

Advantages: Unrivalled location, great facities, wonderful breakfasts
Disadvantages: View of the freeway from some of the rooms

...Of all the hotels I have stayed in in Sing, this is definitely my favourite. It's all the flash, marbled, gilted, chanderliered swankiness you can desire, with great facilities, service and efficiency, as only Singapore can do. The rooms are well appointed and very clean, with your typical Holiday Inn double beds and choice of pillow firmness, TV, trouser press, tea and coffee etc., and also internet connections, bathrobes, disposable slippers and safes. The large marble bathrooms come complete with a phone for those calls that just can't wait. One of my favourite features in this hotel is the roof pool. These are common in most Singapore hotels, but this one is a huge, overflowing marble affair, with foliage around the walls, the odd gecko, and is beautifully lit for night swimming, when the temperature is perfect. ...Just back from a wonderful stay at The Star hotel in Kingussie. We stayed for a 5 night break in Sept. and cannot find fault. We were welcomed by the owner, and shown to our room. Good size, with large double bed, nice dressing table & warbrobe with plenty of space for all our walking gear. Tea & Coffe making facilities aswell as an iron & hairdryer. You can have the option of having a bath or shower, we chose bath, which was huge! Ample car parking behind the hotel which also doubles as a little beer garden. Breakfast & dinner included in price...and to be honest we have never eaten so much in our lives!!! Absolutely amazing especially for the price! Harbour Hotel, Galway - 3 star

...Recently stayed in this hotel over the June bank holiday weekend. Mananged to get a good deal on a double room - E125 for two people sharing plus breakfast. The hotel is in a good location - only a 5 minute walk from Shop Street which is the main street in Galway city. Parking is provided by a multi story car park next door with a reduced rate of E3 for guests per day. Hotel decor is modern but low key. Staff were attentive and helpful at all times. The hotel bar was comfortable but lacked any kind of atmosphere so drinkers would be better suited to the city. Our room was on the top floor - ceiling was slanted which made the room quite small and the view was limited. Room was clean, but fixture and fittings were cheap - espically in the bathroom. The room was also extremely warm with no air con present. Overall, our stay was alright...

...My Husband and I have just returned from The Star Hotel, the hotel while being old fashioned it is extremelly clean and the staff very helpful and pleasant, the food is excellant I defy anyone to find better value for the money, the day before I arrived I injured my back and the girl on reception called Tanya kept heating my back pad in the microwave oven for me, she is a little treasure, on our second day we booked to return in March 2009 and we are looking forward to it, yes the hotel has no lifts but that is no problem, the portions of the food given are exceptional I'm sure I've put a stone on in the four days we were there. It is in a great location for seeing all other local sites, I can really recommend going to see the Reindeers just outside Aviemore a truly great experience...

...of 3 types of cereal, oranges, apples, strawberry + natural yoghurt, orange juice, apple juice, toast, hard-boiled eggs, jam, marmalade, honey, tea, coffee, Danish ham, salami, cheese slices, roll-mop herring, pate, white bread, pumpernickel bread, brown bread, rye bread, bread rolls, butter, Danish pastry etc.Our stomachs were quite full afterwards. The bedroom TV has 10 channels including CNN, Eurosport and a couple of Swedish channels. There are 3 seating areas in the hotel reception. Tour excursions can be booked at the reception desk. The receptionists speak excellent English and were helpful. Check-out time was 12 p.m. Although the hotel was rated 3-star, I would deem its facilities as 4-star. The Principals Hotels chain owns the hotel. We thought our stay was excellent....
