Take me to the Hilt. Take me to Hilton Kuala Lumpur!

Advantages: Modern, Clean, Luxurious. Great price!
Disadvantages: Having to say goodbye. Too much choice for food!

...If you have read my Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur review you may question why I would even contemplate staying at a different property. The answer to this would be price. Hilton managed to entice me to stay at their flagship Asian property In February and March this year due to a 70% discount promotion. Given the nature of the recession I thought it was best to slim my expenditure down to size and took a Grand Executive Suite at £110 a night. The usual price for this would be in excess of £250 a night and when you see the room, you can clearly understand why. Hilton KL opened in 2004 and established itself as a major player in the KL hotel market and was soon crowned the accolade of Hilton?s flagship Asian property. When you visit it is easy to understand why! The hotel is always in the top three of hotels in KL on trip advisor and it...

5 Star Luxury starting at £20 a night! - Renaissance Kuala Lumpur

Advantages: Cheapest 5 star property in KL. Excellent western property. Great facilities and staff.
Disadvantages: Not as fresh as other 5* properties but at this price, who cares??!

...When I first moved to Malaysia I didn?t realise how cheap the hotels were out there. It was only once I got talking to the locals did I realise how cheap you could holiday for in Kuala Lumpur. A good 4* hotel room could be as cheap as £15 a night! I soon decided to investigate this further and look at what you could actually get for your £ in this amazing city. When I lived in Malaysia I lived about 1hr from Kuala Lumpur in a small town. On the weekends KL is where it was ?at? so I soon began staying in hotels there for the weekend. My first foray into the KL hotel scene was with the Renaissance, a good western brand that is part of the Marriott group. In September 2005 I decided to give the Renaissance a go and here is my story. Booking Before I booked I spoke to the hotel reservations team directly to discuss the differences in...

Review of Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel

Super Duper Kuala Lumpur!!

Advantages: Larger than life bustling city, lots to do and see
Disadvantages: Not for anyone who likes an early night, long flight

...My self and my boyfriend stayed in Kuala Lumpur for three nights in October this year and had a wonderful time. GETTING THERE We visited Kuala Lumpur as part of a package deal. We flew to Borneo, stayed there for 2 weeks, and then flew from Borneo to Kuala Lumpur, which took us about 3 hours. A flight direct from Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur would take about 13 hours and many people choose to do stop overs in Kuala Lumpur, as it is very easy to fit into any package deal. The main reason we decided to include a stopover in Kuala Lumpur (often called KL) was because it was offered to us at a very cheap price, £8 per night per person and we thought it would break up our flight home. ACCOMADATION We stayed at the 4 star Capitol Hotel which was right smack bang in the middle of town. We found this to be an excellent location as we...

Flying Free In Kuala Lumpur

Advantages: Natural surroundings, lots of species, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: None

...I visited Borneo and Kuala Lumpur last year and being a massive fan of animals, myself and my boyfriend visited all the animal related attractions. One of these was the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park. Where Is It? Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is situated in the Lake Gardens area of Kuala Lumpur which is close to the Orchid Gardens and the Tun Abdul Razek Memorial. The bird park is a little bit out of the main town in Kuala Lumpur as we did try to follow a map and find our way there on foot but after getting lost and asking a couple of locals which way we needed to go, they told us we would be better getting a taxi. So get a taxi we did and good job too because it was about a 15-20 minute journey to the Bird Park. The Lake Gardens area where the Bird Park is situated also have many other attractions such as The Deer Park, Orchid & Hibiscus Garden...

Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur

Advantages: Lively. exciting. Cheap goods. inexpensive food
Disadvantages: Noisy. Crowded. Some pickpockets are around

...Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur (KL)-known as Chinatown- is endowed with a distinct character of its very own. There is loud blaring music, colourful shops, hawker stalls, restaurants, coffee shops and itinerant peddlers in this vibrant, bustling, exotic street.Flanking both sides of Petaling Street -which is known as Chee Cheong Kai in Cantonese-are shops selling just about everything from textiles, flowers, crafts, shoes, clothes, watches,CDs, and traditional Chinese medicines. Seemingly unaffected by the growth of one stop, plush, air conditioned, shopping centres in Kuala Lumpur,Chinatown has held its ground and remains a popular hunting ground. Its also a paradise for tasty but inexpensive Chinese food. You will find Cantonese,Hainanese and Hokkien dishes here in this city within a city and at prices that will amaze you.Budget travellers...

Kuala Lumpur the place to be...

Advantages: Great shopping citty
Disadvantages: A bit far away

...If you want to go shopping and you have the money for a plane ticket, then you sould definetly go to Kuala Lumpar, in Malaysia. Kuala Lumpar (KL) is in central Malaysia and it is very hot and sunny. KL is perfect for shopping and you'll find anything and everything, plus everything is so cheap. If you go to the little shops and small buisness's you can even barter, which is even better. You can even visit the famous Twin Towers in KL, it's a wonderful building to go up and see... It's an amazing piece of architecture. You should definetly go to KL if you are any where near it... It would definetly be a crime to miss out on this wonderful city......

Kuala Lumpur

Advantages: Cheap, friendly, culture shock
Disadvantages: Can be very humid

...we went to KL in spring this year, following recommendation from my father. we did not know quite what to expect, having never been to S.E Asia before. On arriving you are greeted by a fabulous airport, and then travel several miles through old plantation land, which is currently being transformed into 'Cyberjaya', where hi-tech businesses are being encouraged to settle, and a range of housing. KL itself is bustling, and admittedley is grubby, and congested, but is a fabulous place to visit. It still has an air of times passed, even though Malaysia, and its capital are very into electronics etc. It is quite easy to find old colonial buildings, some of which house restaurants and bars. You should not miss Chinatown (Petaling Street) at night when the stalls are set out, it is an experience, haggling over the price of something...

Amazing Kuala Lumpur

Advantages: Amazing city with spectacular views
Disadvantages: The humidity

...I visited Kuala Lumpur (KL) in October 2003 after spending a week on the wonderful island of Pangkor. When I arrived I was slightly shell shocked at the size of all the buildings and almost fell out of a taxi because I was so pre-occupied with the amazing skyline. Our hotel, The Mandarin Oriental, was right next to the Petronas Towers and the KLCC shopping centre. It is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in and we got a great deal for the room. The service was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Most of the shopping plazas are full of designer shops that i was not expecting. You can save quite a bit of money on the designer labels that can be had but they are not cheap. The best value for money items that I found were make up and perfume from the department stores and, strangely enough, luggage. I bought 2...

Kuala Lampur - Where you dont find Kuala

Advantages: People, Shopping, Food, Spots
Disadvantages: Crime

...I'v been here last year in January for my Management Training, was there for 5days out which 2 days were my training & rest i was exploring KL With my friends. Kl is the capital of malaysia, and singapore & thailand are its neigbouring countires. There are people from different places over here, like English, Chinese, Malay,Indian & so on. The language spoken over here is Malay or English. I stayed in the Prince Hotel which is 4 star hotel & its really good one if you see the services they give you 325Ringates.(Ringates its the local currency of Malaysia 4Ringates=$1). so the price of staying at such a hotel was quite cheap. My room was at 12th floor so was having a good view of KL, also petronas Tower is quite near to it. The KL Internationa Airport is just brilliant, once you land over here and you see the architecture...

Kuala Lumpur - Singapore train experience

Advantages: Cheap, comfortable and safe !
Disadvantages: Old coaches

...Having been on so many trains in Europe, I decided to try out the Malaysia-Singapore train during my stay here in Malaysia. This is not the first time I visit Singapore through Malaysia but I have always taken bus or flight so this train experience is new to me. First of all, let me tell you the differences between these different options. If you take a flight, it is only 50 minutes (excluding time taken to check in which is 2 hours before flight time + 1 hour from Kuala Lumpur city centre to the airport + 30 minutes from Singapore airport to city centre). So, in total, a flight might end up being + - 4 hours 20 minutes. Air fare: Normally RM 880 ( which is about £135) Alternatively, take a bus from Kuala Lumpur city centre to Singapore city centre. Buses run mainly from Puduraya train station. Beware: This is the place that many...
