Reviews of singapore
Singapore has it all.
Review of General: Singapore by
Gwenllian
Advantages: People, food, shopping, the price.
Disadvantages: Pushy shop owners.
...I was lucky enough to spend Christmas 2004 and the first week of January 2005 in Singapore and it was a fantastic experience.
Apologies for the length of this review but there's so much to say about Singapore. I've divided the review into sections so you can skip to the bits you're interested in. I'll also add more in-depth reviews to the other sections in the Singapore travel page rather than writing too much here about the different areas.
**Singapore airport**
Singapore airport is often credited as being the best in the world and it certainly is the nicest airport I've ever used. Singapore is often praised for its cleanliness and the airport reinforces this view of Singapore. Much attention has been devoted to decorating it and it has a gym, trees and so many shops. I went to Singapore with two friends and we had a problem...

Singapore Airline Crap
Review of Singapore Airlines - SIA by
petitesquirt
Advantages: What advantages? Should be renamed the NoStar Alliance.
Disadvantages: Too many to list.
...As many of you know, I am a frequent flyer on several of the major airlines. My travels have taken me to many parts of the world on several different airlines, some good, some bad, some not worth mentioning.
This is an extremely long review. So, you have been warned!
Personal History
=
The last time I flew with Singapore Airlines (SIA) was more than 10 years ago. On that fateful flight, the plane was delayed many hours, due to 'unforeseen technical problems'. They boarded , and unboarded (alighted) us many many times and did not even have the courtesy to provide the passengers with refreshments.
On top of the delays, there was the food poisoning incident when I flew with them from Hong Kong to Singapore. Did I mention they are also part of the Star Alliance? Earlier last year, I wrote about Air Canada and how...

Uniquely Singapore!
Review of Singapore by
ukusa
Advantages: Shopping, Cleanliness, Nice People
Disadvantages: HEAT!!!
...Uniquely Singapore!! This is this city's catch phrase. It can be seen on signs as soon as you walk off the plane the moment when you do depart and they wish you a found farewell as the plane departs this fine city.
I am not sure what I thought I would expect from Singapore. However, whatever it was did not even compare to what I found in this spectacular city!
Upon arriving at the Changi airport, one becomes completely in awe of the airport which supports it's own stopover hotel, free movie theatre and spa! This is not to mention the vast amounts of shops and restaurants.
~Immigration~
On departing the plane, you make your way through the beautiful corridors filled with live plants and flowers of spectacular beauty, to the immigration lines. As the airline had not handed out immigration cards before arrival in Singapore...

Visiting friends in Singapore
Review of General: Singapore by
gard
Advantages: Shopping, food
Disadvantages: Hot, humid
...Once again it turns out that it is great having friends around the world. The trip to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur was triggered by an invitation to a wedding in Kuala Lumpur (called KL from now on). We didn’t get that much time to plan the trip because we got the invitation on pretty short notice. We did manage to get tickets round trip from Stavanger to Singapore for about 6000 Norwegian kroner (about 650 US dollars) and that is not bad. Maybe the price is related to the time of year when we went on the trip. We started from Stavanger on November 9th 2000. As usual we flew to Amsterdam to catch the next flight from there to Singapore. When I say we I’m referring to my love Nikki and myself. For the first time we had decided to bring a video camera. I also had to bring a laptop and it can get pretty heavy to carry all these items around...

We Had A Singapore SLING!!
Review of Singapore Airlines - SIA by
ukusa
Advantages: Amenities, Service, Food
Disadvantages: Online Check-in doesn't always work
...~BACKGROUND~
I had heard many good things about Singapore Airlines and when we booked our Christmas holiday last January and found out that 2 of the 6 flights we would be taking were with Singapore Airlines, I was happy about that.
But, as always, one is always a bit cautious and everyone's experience and be different. My worries began back in August when I found out I was pregnant! After consulting the doctors and midwives, I was assured I could continue on my Christmas holiday that was to take me to Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. My biggest worry was the flights and being comfortable. Even in the best conditions a 12+ hours flight can be an ordeal.
We took two flights in economy class. The first flight was on the 17th December 2005 from Heathrow to Singapore and the second flight was on the 24th December 2005 from...

Singapore Airlines, The Jewel of the sky.
Review of Singapore Airlines - SIA by
atlantis140
Advantages: Great First Class Air service Irrelevent of the class you fly.
Disadvantages: Flights get booked quick because of the immense popularity.
...Singapore Airlines really do rise above any other airline irrelevant of the class or distance you fly.
I have recently returned from a trip to Sydney, Australia and after the many good reports we decided to fly with Singapore Airlines. I knew I shouldn’t be disappointed.
We booked the flights through the travel agent about 1 year in advance as because of the popularity of Singapore Airlines the flights get booked up very quickly indeed. The total price for each member of our party came to £1440 including airport taxes at Manchester, Singapore and Sydney and VAT. Which was a very reasonable price for such a long distance journey? We decided to fly economy class after inspecting the various classes available via their website and decided that economy would suit our needs adequately.
Our departure date came and we made our...

Making the most of a visit to Singapore
Review of General: Singapore by
sef
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...What can we tell you about…
Singapore
It’s difficult to know where to start. Singapore is everything you would expect it to be, lively, bustling, interesting, entertaining, expensive (but packed full of bargains depending upon what you are looking for) and great FUN!
When you arrive at the airport, look out for the FREE official guides and maps, which are placed all along the walkway to Immigration. If you miss them you may have to pay for similar (but no better) versions when you get into Singapore.
What is there to do?
Well, I didn’t do EVERYTHING but, between the team who went out there in April 2000, we managed to tick quite a few things off the list.
In the following sections we make a few observations and suggestions and, where we have our own personal input we have allocated ‘ratings’ on how good it was – (5...

As smooth as Singapore silk
Review of Singapore Airlines - SIA by
Quakerman
Advantages: Great food, service and entertainment
Disadvantages: Not direct, except to Singapore
...I flew Singapore Airlines, in economy, on the first two legs of a round the world trip with Star Alliance. They were without question the best two flights of the trip, and among the best flights I have ever taken (and I have been flying regularly since I was an infant).
My route with SA was Manchester to Singapore, then after a four day stopover, Singapore to Auckland. I flew out on Thursday morning, which is the one day of the week when SA flies a Boeing 747 on this route (as opposed to a 777) and there is a stopover of about 90 minutes in Zurich, rather than the direct flight.
CHECK-IN 1
Check-in at Manchester was a little chaotic, as their computer system was down. I got there very early, and there wasn't a huge queue, so it was efficient nonetheless. However, as there were no computers, there was no way of accessing...

Singapore - the Hotel 81 chain
Review of Hotel 81 - Gold, Singapore by
webfoot
Advantages: Cheap, clean and safe
Disadvantages: Not for the faint-hearted if you don't like the real world
...I did not mean to stay in a Hotel 81 hotel. I was planning to be in transit through Singapore at my own expense for a day or so.I tried three four-star special offers. The first two came back after about 12 hrs to inform me that their hotel was full on the dates in question.
The third hotel was also full but offered me a hotel, Hotel 81 Geyland on Lorong 20, which they recommended for a cost of about £20 per night. Time was a bit tight ,but the photo looked OK on-line and the price was fantastic so I booked it and this is where I stayed, and stayed again on two further visits later in the year.
This hotel is not for seekers of de-luxe accommodation. The rooms are completely basic and quite small. My room had an air-conditioner (which did not cost extra to use), a small bathroom with toilet and shower and a welcome bag...

East meets West in Singapore
Review of General: Singapore by
funkyfiend
Advantages: lovely people, warm climate, clean streets, great shopping
Disadvantages: frequent heavy stormshowers, gotta be careful where you smoke!
...I went with my family to Singapore a couple of years ago where we stayed in our friends' apartment for two weeks while they visited the Cotswolds in England where we had travelled from. The flight was around 13 hours long, which i found a bit of a stretch, being sat in the cramped economy class, but once you find a comfortable position to sleep in then all is okay (for me this was tilt your chair back as far as you can without really irritating the person behind you, then sort of sprawl out with your arms wrapped around you and your legs crossed up against the seat in front of you). Also if you are travelling with young children, remember to bring toys and things that will keep them entertained for what might be a long flight, depending where you are travelling from.
Once you step off the plane, the first thing that you immediately...
