Hotel Coral, Skala Rachoni

Advantages: Nice hotel, good swimming pool and bar, fantastic scenery, close to the beach, very peaceful
Disadvantages: Very remote - a few more tavernas would be advantageous, the seabed was covered in seaweed

...My partner and I have just returned from a wonderful holiday staying at the Hotel Coral in Skala Rachoni, Thassos. We booked with Thomsons Holidays as a last minute package deal, although this hotel can be booked independently. We stayed for a week during the school holidays from July 22nd to July 29th 2007. THE LOCATION and FACILITIES The hotel is literally 180 metres from the sea (less than 5 minutes walk) and is set within beautiful olive groves with a spectacular mountain backdrop. The small resort centre of Skala Rachoni is about 1km away along the seafront, and the village of Rachoni is 4km inland. There is plenty of parking available at the hotel and a lovely swimming pool with pool bar. Skala & touring round Kefalonia

Advantages: Great food, scenery, quiet, fantastic beaches
Disadvantages: Bad airport

...I went to Kefalonia for a week at the beginning of July 2005. The weather was very hot and dry, about 39 degrees celsius, which for me was too hot. The locals said the weather was usually well over 40 degrees at that time of year. I went to the resort of Skala with Kosmar. Airport transfer was just over an hour but take travelsick pills , as it's a journey with a lot of hairpin bends. My accommodation was the Michalis Studios in Skala. These were quite basic with a kitchenette (no kettle, so bring a travel kettle), and separate bedroom and balcony. The only problem I found with the accommodation was that there was no air-conditioning and in July, that makes it impossible to sleep at night. There were a lot of mosquitoes in the room if you left the windows open (you had to do this as it was very stuffy), so bring one of those plug...

Sun and Sand in Skala Kalloni!

Advantages: Friendly, safe and family orientated resort
Disadvantages: None that would put me off going again.

...We have just returned from a week in Skala Kalloni in Lesvos and wanted to let everyone know what a wonderful place it is! We have a two year old daughter and our list of must haves included either a childrens pool or a safe shallow beach, apartment or hotel withing a 5 minute walk of beach, a couple of shops to buy any provisions we might need, and a selection of tavernas for dinner. We didn't want lots of noisy nightlife! The transfer from the airport to the resort took about 45 minutes and was well conducted by our rep who told us lots about the island. Skala Kalloni fitted all of our requirements completely. We stayed at the Arisvi apartments which are bookable through Manos. Captain Corillei's island

Advantages: beautiful, relaxing island
Disadvantages: a week or 2 weeks isn't enough

...I?ve recently got back from an amazing week in Skala, Kefalonia. There isn?t a section on here for Skala, so although I?ll be talking about Kefalonia I?ll be concentrating on Skala. We got a good last minute deal for a brilliant price, which is always nice! I?ve watched Captain Corilleus mandolin and read the book and Kefalonia is as beautiful as the book and film suggest. Kefalonia is one of the Ionian islands and is quite near to Italy. It?s population is only 32,000. We were a bit worried about what the weather would be like, with it being late September when went. But we got lucky with the weather it was glorious for 95% of the week with temperatures hovering around the mid to late 20s mark. In The Shadow Of Olive Groves.

Advantages: Quiet and peaceful and a taste of rural Greece.
Disadvantages: No nightlife and car hire may be advised if you wish to travel.

A luxurious hotel complex

Advantages: Modern, air conditioning, very clean, good location
Disadvantages: Not very Greek

...Situated on the coast road from Skala to Poros, the Nine Muses hotel is a relatively recent development, and as such you can expect all the modern amenities that are found within the newer complexes. On arrival at the hotel you can expect a warm welcome, including being shown to your room by one of the managers and having your cases delivered straight to your door. The rooms themselves are spacious, modern and quite luxurious (for Greece!). Each room contains a large fridge plus tea and coffee making facilities, as well as a TV with some Greek and English channels. Paradise with a few bugs

Advantages: Sun, sand, relaxing and lots of refreshing Retsina
Disadvantages: Wasps, Flying cockroaches and Horse Flies.

Ferry's take 2 hours and Catamarans 1 hour. I have traveled on both, and enjoyed the journey both times as the crossing is very scenic. First you stop off at Aegina before moving on to the port of Skala on Agistri. Which is not really a port more like a small concrete jetty for cars to get on and off the ferry. ...All we wanted was a reasonably priced, relaxing holiday to somewhere hot and beautiful, so we went along to our travel agent and picked up a few brochures. Once we had finally decided to settle on going to Kafelonia, we began looking for studios or apartments in our desired destination Skala. However we realised that this could be quite expensive as the prices companies were charging were phenomenal…until we came across Kosmar. Kosmar apartments and studios were by far the cheapest we came across and they had a very good selection in their brochure, so we went along to our travel agent and booked with Kosmar. Advantages: Quiet, Unspoiled, Cheap
Disadvantages: Mosquitos prevalent, Crazy local drivers!

...1 week for two, self-catering, Kefalonia. This was a fabulous holiday. Kefalonia is relatively new to the tourist scene and as such is more or less unspoilt (visit while you can). We wanted basic accommodation for a reasonable price which we definitely found with the Marietta Apartments - the staff were friendly, the rooms clean and the facilities perfectly adequate for self-catering. Would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a base from which to explore, but if you are a stay-in-the-hotel-by-the-pool-all-day type, look for something a little more livelily. Skala itself is beautiful with plenty of traditional and touristy restaurants so it depends what you are looking for. The sea around the island is crystal clear and good for swimming - check out Mirtos (or Turtle) Beach which has to be seen from the cliff...

...Agistri is only an hour from Athens and a world apart. You can leave England at noon and be there in time for supper on the terrace of the Agistri Club, overlooking the beautiful sea and the lights of Aegina only 6 minutes away! This tiny island of only 1000 people is close to Athens, but has so much to offer. You have a choice of beaches, depending on your preference. I liked the small cove next door, very private, but my fellow guests preferred the larger beach with the shallow, warm water where they could easily grab a cold beverage when the feeling hit them. It is only a short walk to/from the Agistri Club and the town of Skala. I had lunch there at Alexandra's overlooking the beach, and a short walk past the church to pick up a few cards and a new hat.
