...INTRODUCTION Whistler – Blackcombe is a ski resort situated about two hours bus journey north of Vancouver in Canada and is quite simply the most incredible ski resort I’ve ever had the fortune of skiing in. Before I begin to wax lyrically about its virtues a little background on myself as regards skiing. I’ve been skiing now for about 15 years having started at the tender age of 7 and until travelling to Whistler I’ve only ever-skied in Europe. The yanks know how to do ski resorts

Advantages: Great snow, wide range of terrain, great town, wide range of other activities
Disadvantages: busy on weekends, altitude.

...With the weak dollar it's never been a better time to head across the atlantic to indulge yourself in some powder skiing, tree skiing or if you feel really fancy...heli skiing! This resort has it all! four mountains to choose from, all of which offer something special! Head to peak 10 if you fancy a bit of tree action, or take advantage of the bowls on all peaks. For the intermediate skier there's plenty of blues, and groomed blacks to improve your techniques or just blast down! The beginner area around the quicksilver super 6 chairlift has a number of nice wide and easy greens that never seem to be too crowded, and with the 6 man chair lift getting back up is easy! The town of Breckenridge itself is a lovely place to spend an afternoon or a full day. The buildings are charming and colourful, theres a wide selection of shops...

Skiing heaven.

Advantages: Great holiday
Disadvantages: none

...lodge and it is beautiful, all wood built looking out onto the main lift. The Day care centre is right next door (this also services Mount Norquay and Sunshine resort) the staff there were excellent, each day they provide you with a menu for the little ones and they get great choices, including mid morning and afternoon snacks. There are soft play areas for the very little ones and they have ski and sledging options for the older one. The main lodge has the ski hire area and a great outdoor shop. The restaurants are one regular one with the take a tray sort of service or burgers and a slightly more expensive one upstairs which sold amazing stonebaked pizza, and you could get iced Baileys in a souvenir ski boot, we have a few of those thanks to my husband. Worlds best ski resort-didn't go up the mountain!

Advantages: Purpose built for tourism and snow sports
Disadvantages: Not a lot of character

...'t want to go skiing or boarding and can't amuse yourself in the spa for the day, this probably isn't the holiday destination for you. Great Bars and nightlife, but as this is a purpose built resort there's nothing to really see out and about - or they keep it very well hidden. If you're into boarding this is the place to be and it's worth the trip from the UK. In Feb/Mar there's normally a snowboarding fesitval but check the dates before booking. At this time, the town is full of boarders and there's a great atmosphere. On the down side, it can busier on the lifts. Beware of the time that you travel as the Blackcombe mountain is closed in August. If you've never boarded or skied in the USA or Canada you may find it a bit more relaxed and better organised than European resorts and the lift queues are not quite so bad. Food...

...Wii is one of the greatest games consoles that I have ever purchased and I absolutely love all of the games that I have played on it to date. Wii Family Ski is a game that up to five people can play and requires the Wii Fit to be able to play. It took me a while to find the Wii Fit or as it is also known the balance board but I kept on searching and got there in the end. Wii Family Ski lets you create a character from scratch or you can import your Mii character too whilst selecting different ski gear for your character. You need to use the Nunchuck and Remote in your hands to use as ski poles and step on the Wii Board to really take advantage of this great game. ...After the disaster of last year's ski trip to Val D'Isere, we decided that this year rather than try Europe again we would head further afield to Canada. After a bit of research and a tempting offer from Lastminute.com we opted for Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies. The opinion is that the Canada is one of, if not the best place in the world to go skiing and that coupled with the price and a spot of internet research prompted us to head for the small hamlet of Lake Louise, hidden deep within the Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. The Hamlet of Lake Louise is located at the side of the Trans Canadian Highway, about an hour from the bigger resort of Banff and about 2 and a half hours from the nearest airport at Calgary. ...We stayed in Breckenridge last year (Jan 06) and as far as holidays go it was a mixed bag - Of which Altitude Sickness and Bronchitus did not help. The title in itself is a bit of a red herring as the town of Breckenridge Is not a purpose built ski resort although there is accommodation in town itself most of the skiing facilities are across the main road -Which is a nightmare to cross during a weekday - especially when you are carrying skis, boards, poles blades and Quilted, jaded children. You don't need that stress before you have even got to the chairlifts or ski schools. To be honest most of the decent accommodation is all slope side, which makes the whole thing so much easier not to say convenient.
