Best Hotel in Birmingham City
Advantages: Everything about this hotel
Disadvantages: Christmas time Parties
...The Thistle Birmingham City Hotel is situated a few miles away from Birmingham International Airport, easily accessible from the major motorway network and close to New Street Station. I stayed at the hotel for 8weeks on a business trip and really enjoyed my stay there.
The rooms are very clean, its well maintained. Staff very friendly and helpful. During Christmas time there are loads of parties and the in house guests have no flexibility in the food timings which was a major draw back. Food was very good and so is the bar always well stocked!
You can have a short walk for your shopping to the City centre, Bull Ring and the Convention Centre.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and would return again....

City Inn - a hidden gem.
Advantages: Price, features of room, location
Disadvantages: err... food is a bit bland and pricey
...I think I spend far too much time in hotels, and can be quite demanding. That said, it is with pleasure I report that the City Inn in Birmingham is a hidden gem.
Location
The hotel is located in the trendy Brindley Place development just off Broad Street in Birmingham, and as such is ideally situated for pubbing, clubbing and general merriment and yet being secluded (for a city) enough for a bit of peace and quiet. Brindley Place itself is home to a variety of trendy bars and restaurants including the (in)famous Bank and various luxury apartments. It's a mainly pedestrianised area, and is easily accessible by foot bus or train from New Street station. The majority of other hotels in the area are located directly on Broad Street, which can be quite noisy with the drunken hordes clamouring around after about 10pm. Mind you don't get...

This city of stars sure lights the sky up
Advantages: Big, bright, attractive, lots to do
Disadvantages: not exactly cheap
...Star City is an entertainment complex located in Englands second city, Birmingham. It features cinemas, restaurants, shopping, bowling, a recent casino, and other odds and ends at different times of year, eg fair rides.
Opened:
July 2000
Location:
Birmingham, north. Easy to reach from the M6 motorway, well signposted.
Includes:
I think best if i list these, and then review them. so...
cinema
restaurants
casino
shops
bowling
pool
entertainment
clubs
free carparking!
My experience:
Star city is one of those urban entertainment complexes, which is big and bright. I mean it, you can spot it a distance away because of all the lights. it is probably a better place to go in the evening rather than the daytime, as its busier.
Its very easy to reach by car, just of the M6. Buses go there frequently from the city...

Botanical Birmingham
Advantages: Plenty to see, a relaxing escape from the city.
Disadvantages: Expensive for a one-off visit. Disappointing restaurant.
...Every city need its green spaces. The architecture may be spectacular and the shops fantastic, but finding a place to escape the traffic and bustle is a necessity for most city dwellers. Picture Birmingham and what do you see? The Bullring, New Street Station and Spaghetti Junction would be the first things that come to my mind. Although I've never lived in Birmingham itself, I worked there for several years. During that time I went to the Botanical Gardens regularly, but for the purposes of this review I will focus on my most recent visit which was August 2008.
A Brief History
Celebrity gardeners are not a new phenomenon. In the nineteenth century J.C Loudon was an influential writer on gardening and became part of London's high society. He designed the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in 1830 to provide a place where keen...

Sky +
Advantages: Plenty of recording space
Disadvantages: Recording ability not available for free
...For a long time I refused to get Sky+ because I said we'd never use it. After giving in to pressure and having it installed I cant believe we ever managed without it. There are very few programmes I watch 'live' anymore.
The Sky + box comes with a hard drive that will store approximately 40 hours of TV, which is more than enough for most people, you would need to be an exteme TV watcher to fill the drive, or be the type of person who saves programmes to watch over again.
The best feature of the Sky+ is the ability to pause live TV, very handy if the phone rings or someone comes to the door. You can also rewind live TV, so if you miss what someone has said you can rewind to hear it again.
The Sky+ box has parental controls, so all adult channels can be blocked and a PIN number can be set so children cant watch films that are too...

Sky+
Advantages: Series link
Disadvantages: Not enough memory
...First of all I would like to clarify that I am not a TV addict however I couldn't live without my sky plus box. It has become an everyday essential to my family & I & is in constant use in our household. It's the best thing since sliced bread!
I personally love sky+ & don't think I've come across anyone who doesn't. It's easy to use, practical & fast. I haven't encountered any problems with the box so far however when I had an issue with my bill I phoned the sky+ helpline at 1am & they were happy to help giving friendly efficient advice & immediately solved the problem. I have nothing but praise for sky & would recommend it to anyone. It can be a bit expensive but for all the services it offers I think it is definitely worth paying a bit more & knocks all of the competition straight out of the park.
I have had sky for years now...

Sky+
Advantages: Easy
Disadvantages: Can be noisey (Anytime Tv updating)
...once and it worked fine, but I don't like my planner being crowded by reminders and future records so I don't really use it.
*****Anytime TV*****
When I first got Sky+ I was thinking about turning off the Anytime TV option (can be done by going through the settings menu). Afterall I knew what I wanted to watch and would just record it if I had to. However, I decided not to turn it off and was pleasantly surprised. There is quite a variety of good shows put on here each week that I would have missed. The downpoint to Anytime TV is that when it's updating (downloading the shows to your box) it can be a little noisey. I'm not that bothered by it, but ti could annoy some people.
*****Layout/Looks*****
Personally I don't really like the look of the box on the outside. It's quite plain and doesn't have anything that stands out...

STAR CITY PT 1 - Reclining Seats - Oohh Err Missus
Advantages: Leg Room, Surround Sound, Air Conditioning, Quick Box Office Service
Disadvantages: £5.50 for an adult ticket!
...I wasn't too sure where to stick this op, as there are two categories on Ciao about StarCity as a shopping centre and Star City as a Cinema, and I wanted to write about both! So, being the mercenary that I am, this is the first in a two part series - two lots of 10p's!! - and deals with one of the most impressive multiplexes I've ever been to.
Star City was opened in July 2000 and was touted as the largest cinema in Europe - the Warner Bros website (www.warnervillage.co.uk) now says it's the largest in the UK so some dratted Europeans must have beaten us - but it is still huge. The Cinema boasts 30 - yes, you did read that right - screens and is pretty impressive on first sight. Anyway, I'll take you through everything you need to know, step-by-step.
We were visiting Star City at Birmingham from Coventry and so it was simple to...

Reach for the Sky ( Plus of course)
Advantages: We watch what we want when we want
Disadvantages: None for me
... SKY PLUS
Move over sliced bread, there's a new kid on the block!
From now on I will describe things that are good,as the best thing since Sky Plus!
I'm of an age to have been around for the first of the Ferguson video players (as so wonderfully described by the brilliant Peter Kay). There was no remote control- you had to walk over to the machine to do all the recordings, and the amount of times we settled down to watch a film my better (?!?) half had recorded only to find a recording of something completely different.
My goodness didn't we think we were something, with our mock leather video covers that held recordings of Corrie and the likes!
But know videos and video recorders are a thing of the past and will soon be appearing on the Antiques Roadshow.
The advent of recording onto DVD seemed to...

Birmingham from Cheap to Chic... The City lowdown
Advantages: Great shopping mecca for every shopoholic
Disadvantages: None
...tubular esculators in the central atrium, if you are on the food hall level (Level 1) and look up you will see the glamourous glass sky plane that lets a shaft of light enter the building - the only natural source of lighting this building has.
All in all the Bullring has pumped excitment back in to Birmingham, and with over 30 million visitors that passed through the doors in it's first year proves it has the hearts of shoppers. But Birmingham does not end there, venture outside of the bullring and you will find boutique stores in the Mailbox such as Armani, DKNY, Hugo Boss and a very lovely if somewhat small harvey Nichols. Take a trip to Brindley Place it has a great buzz about the place and is a must to see, we suggest you sit down and grab a drink whilst overlooking the refurbished cannels. And Birminghams proof that it is turning in...
