Sky digital - Value for money.

Advantages: Hundreds of channels
Disadvantages: so much arguing over which channel to watch.

...I have been a proud member of the Sky Digital Service for a few months now, it is by far the best upgrade of chanbels you can get from any provider. I used to have Ondigital, Ihad a bout 30 or so channels withg them for £28 a month, when my contract was up with them I was glad to get rid of it, as I had heard about the Sky digital service. With Sky Digital I know get way way over 100 channels for four pounds more, that includes about 15 movie channels, 66 or 7 sports channels about 8 music channels and several others, I am extremely pleased with their service and the package I have, to date I have had no problems with reception or anything like that....

Sky Digital

Advantages: plenty of choice
Disadvantages: bad weather disrupts the signal

...I’ve been a subscriber for a few years now both the old analogue system and now their new digital system, though in preference I would rather have kept to analogue. Both systems have advantages and disadvantages. With digital you have much more to choose from including the various online options like box office films, shopping and email, but at the same time when it rains hard you can easily lose your picture, spoiling your viewing pleasure. And on that point the say it doesn’t happen, but be warned…IT DOES! Now with the old analogue system you had much less choice for viewing but even through the sparklie picture during bad weather at least you could finish watching the film. I think possibly the dish location could make a difference, but beware, all Sky wants is your money....

A Nearly Clear Sky

...There was a time many years ago when my family would have never entertained the idea of getting any kind of satellite television. Of course that was in the days when out airwaves were free from such crap as reality TV shows and lame saturday night entertainment. Anyway in the time we had it, it was enough to convert my parents to new thinking. More TV Channels means more variety and variety is the spice of life. Of course it could've had something to do with the fat that you could get new episodes of Friends before Channel 4. ...but before that I just had another digital service. Switching to sky was definitely the best decision. With sky+ you can record 2 programmes at a time although the down side to this is that you do have to be watching one of them or watching something on the planner but hey you can't have everything! It enables you to pause & rewind live TV just incase you missed something or the phone rings at the most inappropriate time. The sky+ planner is extremely simple to use & I would challenge anyone who says it isn't. I recently introduced my 81 year old Nan to sky plus & she isn't the most technical person but within half an hour she had got to grips with it & says it's a god send for her. Reach For The Sky With Sky Digital

Advantages: The way forward, £40 one off fee, the box is yours after 12 months, comprehensive range of channels, cool advances in TV watching, will become the norm eventually, picture doesn't degrade in bad weather
Disadvantages: Interactive services are very slow sometimes to respond, if at all. Digibox has annoying habit of locking up for no apparent reason.

...Sky Digital is the new improved system for receiving satellite signals in the UK. It apparently works on the fact that you can squeeze more channels into the transmittable bandwidth and hence significantly offer more channels to the end-user. This is then decoded by the set-top box. Digital is apparently the way to go. So now we can have 300 channels of crap instead of the normal 5. Neat. Plus you get access to the all-new interactive portions, more of which later. Installation, you'll be glad to know, is quick(ish) - connect a few wires up, hook it to your phone line for the dialup bits then do a new install on it, then the engineer shoves off and you have fun. Sky Digital Hidden charges

Advantages: Huge selection of Channels
Disadvantages: charge for services which should be free as standard

...pay a minimum £75 call out fee plus the cost of any labour and repairs! I know that the box is a digital receiver, but I have had no use for it whatsoever since leaving sky, they only give us the box so that they can charge us for repairing a box that we use to access THEIR services!!! I have now switched back to Virgin. They may have slightly fewer channels, but any calls to their customer services (for TV, internet or phone problems) are FREE. The cost of renting their box is in with the package charges (still cheaper than Sky) so ALL repairs are totally free!...

Sky Digital - Almost there.

Advantages: Large selection of channels, variety of different packages
Disadvantages: Some channels aren't available, a few niggly little quirks (see main text)

...Sky Digital. Is it worth it? I think you can get quite a good range of channels for the price. My package costs £27 per month and gives me pretty much all the channels I need. All the movie channels except FilmFour, all the usual SciFi channels and documentary channels. In fact the only ones I particularly didn’t want were the sport channels as I’m not into football or any of the usual sports to be found on Sky. I get enough of a dosage of sport on regular channels. I also don’t like the fact that you have to pay to view many of these sports in addition to your monthly subscription. Although having said that, I don’t mind the Box Office pay per view scheme.
