Slazenger V500 Select Cricket Bat
Advantages: Brilliant middle, nice design
Disadvantages: None as yet
...After finishing my first season at my local cricket club with no cricket bat of my own, I decided it was about time to buy my own.
After lots of recommendations about different bats I decided to go to the sports store and find out more.
Thats when I stumbled upon an end of season price for the Slazenger V500 Select of £30. Usually this particular bat is £70. I plumped for the Short handle (mainly because it was the only one left in the shop!!).
I wasn't disappointed.
The bat didn't need 'knocking in' due to the protective cover over the front so I was straight in the Winter Nets with it. After a few overs getting used to the bat, I found the middle quite easily. The middle of this bat is not for the faint hearted!! A nice cover drive saw the ball hurtling THROUGH the bottom of the net and towards the far corner of the room...

Slazenger Power Blade
Advantages: Nice power to weight ratio
Disadvantages: Grip can feel a little loose
...Just bought this bat ready for the new summer season and I must say I?m very impressed.
Weight wise it?s nice and light, although a tad heavier towards the toe, obviously for power purposes although the heavier end allows for a nice heavy swing with less effort in the elbows and wrists.
If the bat is 100% with 0% being by the handle and 100% being the toe. The sweetest spot is at about 80%, although the bat is actually quite thin the sweet spot covers the entire face area around the sweet spot. I think this is because of the flatness of the bat this far down. As most cricket bats have a curve like a road where it?s higher in the middle and curves off towards the edges. Although at the sweet spot it seems to be flatter than anywhere else on the bat.
Grip is very good; the grip provided with the bat is strong enough, although there...

Cricket anyone?
Advantages: great bat, you can hit the ball miles
Disadvantages: could be seen as quite heavy
...the sportshop to make sure the one you buy is the correct size and weight for you. If the bat is too light you won't be able to hit the ball as far as you would like and if its too heavy you won't get to the ball in time, meaning you may miss it completely, miss-time it or edge it behind.
Although I am more of a bowler than a batsmen I do enjoy batting and for this reason have always had nice bats. I tend to buy them at the end of the season though when cricket manufacturers are thinking of next years products and therefore reduce the stock from the season just passed. I have always done this and typically you get between 30 and 50% of the advertised price. The bat I currently use is the V600 SUPER made by Slazenger; it is the bat used by Mark Butcher of Surrey and England. As bats go it is quite large and weighty and has a large sweetspot...

Bag and baggage
Advantages: I don't have one
Disadvantages: I don't have one
...While awaiting inspiration for a new review, I remembered that this one was overdue for an update. Although I rewrote it a year or so ago for Dooyoo, to include selected items from handbag reviews posted over there, I never got round to revising the Ciao version. So here it is. All the articles mentioned appeared in reviews by women on one site or the other.

What have I in my handbag?
I mustn't tell you lies;
In truth the only bags I own
Are those beneath my eyes.
You don't need special insight,
No expertise in rockets,
To guess that, being just a man,
I keep stuff in my pockets.
But if I now said: "Nothing!
So there, and that?s your lot!"
You might not feel satisfied
And rate this Helpful ? Not.
*
In any case, the subject
Has made me realise how
Much women carry in their bags...

Flick Cricket Game
Advantages: An iPhone cricket game...
Disadvantages: ...very basic
...You may have noticed I've written the odd review or two about iPhone application games in recent weeks...and you'd be right. So here's another one - Flick Cricket.
There's a game doing the rounds on the internet called Stick Cricket which is extremely addictive and enjoyable...unfortunately the Flick version is completely different, and not quite up to the same standard; but then again this application is free for all you good, good iPhone users.
The game is based on a six-over match, where the user always bats first and then attempts to defend the total as the 'computer' chases it down. On the main menu there are a couple of options - Quick Facebook Game, New Normal Game, Continue Game and Connect with Facebook. Now, I've not delved into the world of the Facebook options, but I believe it allows you to upload photos for players...

Bags of jiffy bag envelopes
Advantages: padds some fragile goods
Disadvantages: not suitable for glass
...I received a DVD in a jiffy bag recently opened the bag carefully and put the bag ready to reuse with about 20 other old jiffy bags I have ready for recycling. Actually I am not sure that all of them are genuine jiffy bags but they are the same sort of thing.
Jiffy bags made by Jiffy have been available for several years now I think they go back to the 1950?s.
Jiffy bags are handy padded envelope bags that can be bought in a variety of sizes some as small as to 164 x 285mm, then several sizes upwards to 247 x 387mm, probably even larger ones available.
The original bag is a golden brown heavy duty paper. The padded filling can be as simple as shredded paper. The envelope closures are one you peel to reveal a sticky surface this will then stick to seal the bag and contents.
Some jiffy bags are filled with a macerated...

Wild Cricket
Advantages: Animals in a Beautiful Setting
Disadvantages: Tranquillity Lost at Peak Times
...The BBC sit-com To The Manor Born, starring Penelope Keith and Peter Bowles, was filmed at Cricket St Thomas. The lovely valley setting of the grounds is where you will find the Wildlife Park. Just south of the A30 between Chard and Crewkerne, in Somerset. It is well sign posted from the main road.
This historic Manor was owned for centuries by barons, then Mr Fry, the chocolate manufacturer bought it in 1897. It passed to two other families before becoming a hotel in 1999 and is now owned by Warners. I will tell you a little more about that later. A free brochure is available in the wildlife gift shop, along with many other leaflets of interest to visitors to the area.
There are three pricing periods for the park, Peak, Off-Peak and Winter. This reflects the fact that like other great attractions, it can become a victim...

Ideal for the average club cricketer
Advantages: Two double width straps
Disadvantages: No instep protection
...The Slazenger Select Test pads are a good alternative for anybody looking for a fairly inexpensive pair of batting pads with the general comfort of a quality pair of batting pads but without the price tag. These pads usually retail around the £39.99 mark, but many wholesalers such as Morrant, Romida or Bourne are likely to have them for closer to £30.
I used a set of these, which I had borrowed off a friend, for the indoor season (I play a lot of indoor cricket in Austria) and was very impressed with them. Pads have improved immeasurably, in the 15 years that I have been playing cricket, with buckles being replaced by Velcro fastenings, which can allow you to get the tightness of the pads more accurately. As regards the straps of these pads, they were great, with the bottom (ankle) and the middle (shin) straps being both 2 inches wide...

Cricket '97
Advantages: The birth of cricket on the PC!
Disadvantages: Well...it's getting on a bit!!!
...Forget Brian Lara Cricket. Don't even think about the new Cricket 2005 from EA Sports. This is where it all began! EA Sports original production - Cricket 97.
With the slight boredom of a jobless summer hanging over me, I opted to whip out this quite literally, old-school game, and then it struck me...what if I can actually review it?!?
And low and behold, I could! So, here's my best attempt...and please bare in mind how, in just nine years, the world of computer gaming has drastically changed.
Put it this way...it begin with, the case holding the disc features a picture of Ian Botham playing a cut shot, in early-nineties one-day clothing... oh yes, we're getting retro here
So once you've installed it onto your computer?oh and trust me, nowadays, there's no way your computer won't be compatible for it!! Through the advice...

Ashes Cricket 2009 - Guarantee an Ashes win (In your home)
Advantages: Cricket on the Wii!
Disadvantages: Maybe classic matches woudl have been good
...The Nintendo Wii has become somewhat of a phenomenon over the last few years. I myself bought my console this year and have become an addict. I even have a Wii Fit and balance board.
Sports are a highlight in my life. I play golf, and enjoy playing golf on my Wii. What I feel the Wii has been crying out for for such a long time now, particularly with its unique control system, is a game concerning my favourite game, cricket.
I have played cricket on computer and games system for quite some time. First there was Brian Lara Cricket, then Brian Lara 2005, then Brian Lara 2008. I never really had too much time for the EA Sports versions of cricket (the one thing that my versions had in common was that they were all developed by Codemasters).
This year Codemasters have produced yet another game. It is designed for various platforms...
